nah im not doing it ive done the full race before but just at a night race wasn't to keen on the route if i was you id save some thing for the climb and something for the way back as its a long run inQuote:

Doubtful. The Good Book says navigational skills, so take one if you wish, but the route is pretty straightforward. Organisers often provide a photocopy if they're requiring a map for shorter, straightfoward routes.

Turn north off the A65 at the eastern end of the town onto the Hawes road. As it's their gala, there will be lots of activity. Basically, can't miss it.
Unlikely to be muddy, slippy wet rock. Enjoy!

Good run from the Briscoe as well, despite getting intimate with a rock.
Not an easy race when you're as unfit and fat as me. I was well and truely put in my place when a lass cruised effortlessly past me, stopped to take a photo, then carried on cruising up into the distance :o

Excellent runs by Kim Critchley and Craig Mattocks, especially as they descended down the rocky path which must have cost them loads of time
Hi Pudgy 71min, just got beat by 7 seconds for the 3rd V60 spot by a Clayton runner, bust a gut trying to keep up with another runner, seen the results and found out he was a V50, legs are now shot.

I'm thinking about this for a first proper mountain race THIS SATURDAY (I've done The Trunce a few times that's all).
The event website hasn't been updated, but is this just a case of turn up, register, and run? Do you have to carry any additional kit for this race, waterproofs etc?

Registration is on the day only in the hall next to the field/car park. Check kit requirements on the day but make sure you have it just in case you need to carry it. I think 'mountain race' is a little overstated. Off the field, up through the village left onto the Chapel-Le-Dale Road and then right onto the track taking you past Crina Bottom and then follow the path to the top and back the same way as far as the top of the village. Carry on straight down the road and then turn right into the gala field - watch out for the steep grassy slope onto the field!!! Am going to attempt to drag myself up and back this year.
This was my first fell race last year i'm mortified about not being able to do it, i was going for a sub 1hr run and only had to find 6mins.
I'm also thinking of this being my first official fell race, so looking forward to it (thanks to Ady for the route advice). What's the number of entries like? My only fear is being the last one home!
The thing to fear on this route is tripping up on all the rubble and boulders that make up the first mile or so of the descent; look to get on the grass mainly to the right of the 'path' as soon as you can.
Personally I've never done a race of the route, other than as a head banger timed headtorch run in winter, but like Ady said its up the road out of Ingleton, then up a cart track, then a grassy bit that increasing turns into a bouldery trail that, by the top, is 100% boulders :D
I'm pretty slow and did this once with an inflamed achilles (thought I could run through it - realised I couldn't by the top but then had to come down!) - I still wasn't (quite) last - I'm sure you'll be fine.Quote:
