Lol Yes, I noticed the bacon ready to be cooked... I was up for waiting but the rest of the group weren't :(

Has anyone done the Kiplings Kapper on 31st March. It says on the bumph that the start time is 8am. Just wondering whether they will allow later start times for runners. Gonna have to get up at 5.30 or something crazy otherwise
If stuff doesn't say separate start for runners then there isn't one but it does suggest kipping the night before for £2.
Description: 28, 26 & 20mls from Meerbrook GR 987608. Route via Rudyard, Wildboarclough, Shutlingsloe (optional), Gradbach & The Roaches. Start 8.00am. Entry £6.00, non LDWA £7.50, limited entry on the day £9 inc refreshments at Cps, meal at finish & cert. Floor space Friday night £2. Organised by & chqs to Staffs LDWA
Cheers FellShoeShuffler :-) Actually I emailed the organisers a few days ago and I had a reply earlier today saying they've got the runners start at 9am. Staying the night beforehand sounds great fun tho, shame there's always children to be considered. Will you be there? Anyone else doing this?
Is anyone else doing Kiplings Kaper then? I've got the route through now, and marked it off on the map. I'm gonna go for the 20 + 2 (Shutlingsloe add on).
Glad they've put the Roaches stretch right at the end. Something to look forward to as the legs tire out! :)
Doin Blubberhouses this weekend with huwski. Hope to see one or two of you there? :)
ill be there, with quite a few other runners it seems, im runner no. 167!
Haven't seen Huwski on here for a while. Moo, say 'hi'. :-)
I haven't seen him on here, but I did see him in person recently - Edale I think.
Maybe he's lurking under a new name :-) Boo, huwski!!
Anyway - what shoes do you all like to wear for LDWA events? I wore trail shoes for my last one, but after wished I'd worn road shoes as there was quite a bit of road, and firm tracks. I'm just wondering what to wear for Kiplings Kaper - has anyone done this, and can recommend what sort of shoes are appropriate? Ta.
Juicer,
Do you have an on-line route or link for kiplings Kaper ? If so could you post it as i'm curious where it goes. Am doing this in trail shoes, but not done it before either.
I normally wear fell shoes. Occasionally I've worn off road trainers, wanting more support. But I think fell shoes are probably better. The other thing is that I don't tend to do many LDWA events over the summer, when the ground may be rock hard. If I thought the ground was going to be rock hard, then I might wear normal trainers.
Safety Pin - there won't be a route anywhere on the web I don't think - but I've got the route at home. I can put it up in a bit more more detail later. But basically it starts in Meerbrook, heads S and then W to a reservoir, then North up to Shutlingsloe, the East, down over the Roaches, and back to Meerbrook. Can't remember the place names in much detail at the moment. 20.5 mile option (with optional 2 mile addition of Shutlingsloe), or 26 mile option (with optional Shutlingsloe). The longer route goes out near the Cat and Fiddle.
May opt for road shoes, as I've been on-off running for the last 6 weeks, with a rather debilitating does of Medial Tibial Shin Splints. May save me getting as much bother, doing something as foolish as a 22.5 run!!!
Thanks for that Juicer. Part of it sounds similar to roaches fell race. Looking forward to it. Hope your shin splints survive !!
Safety Pin - here you go, slightly more detail.
*Start Meerbrook, follow South Staffs Walk trail S and W to Rudyard Reservoir. CP1 at Car Park N of reservoir.
*Continue N picking up Dane Valley Way, the other footpaths to Wildboarclough, and Shutlingsloe option. CP2 in Village Hall.
*Route diverges here for short or longer option. Longer option up by Cat and Fiddle, shorter one S to Gradbach. CP3 in Car park near Gradbach but slightly out of the way for the short route.
*S over The Roaches, and back to Meerbrook.
Hope that helps. Hope you have a good time. I'll be running with Mr 1470, at least to start with. We're gonna try for an early start, as a) I'll take ages b) Mr 1470 has to go to some football in the afternoon. Look out for us.... looks like I might be the one in road shoes
Thats great thanks. See you tomorrow.
Safety Pin - were you there? Twas a grand day out, beautiful weather, and Oh, The Food :)
Hi Juicer,
What a cracking day, lovely weather and a great route. Did the 20 mile option. Took it steady - started at nine and did it in 5 hours but lost over 25 mins trying to find checkpoint 3 ! - kept going past bemused wedding guests at Gradbach Mill !! Wonderful food at the end - such a good day, i took the family over and walked around Rudyard Lake today !!
Juicer,
cut me off early, how did your run go ?
Hi Safety Pin. Had a wonderful time thankyou :) We did the 20 mile option too and took about 5 hours too. Overall time was 5.22 including the checkpoints, but we did rather linger at checkpoint 2, the bowls of grapefruit went down a treat. The wedding guests did look rather bemused at the runners and walkers traipsing through their party didn't they? (Though we did actually miss CP3, as we were still full-up). Really enjoyed the run across the Roaches, and it was thrilling enough to give me a real second wind at that late point in the run. Unfortunately, we couldn't stay to really make the most of the splendid buffet at the end.
Can't wait for the next one. Have you got another planned?
Juicer, I hit the grapefruit too at checkpoint 2. Easy to digest and keep on running ! My next Ldwa will probably be peakers stroll in july, unless I find another one before then. If u haven't done peakers stroll before, its well worth doing - one of my favourite races, and usually on a very hot day.
My next ones are Pendle Witch Way (28th April), then Bronte Moors Challenge (23rd June). Anyone else up for them?
I'm currently looking for what to do next. I'll check all those out.
Definitely fancying the Malvern Midsummer Marathon on 23rd June too :)
Anyone running the 100 this weekend ? If so I shall be out there somewhere marshalling, and the Missus too.
But first she has to cook and make 50kg of potato salad on Friday night :D
And boil 150 eggs :D
And mince 10lbs onions
Just so you lot remain well fed - and you will be.
Be marshalling with Mrs FSS and others from W&NL at around the 75 mile mark and can highly recommend the potato salad to anyone doing the 100
That must be the Gilfach one. I'll call in and find you - I have a 'roving role' -in car ferrying stuff about and broken walkers back to base. General dogsbody :(
We open the CP very early on Sunday morning and are there until lunchtime, I believe. Look forward to saying hullo.
This is going to be an interesting night. I have just left food + 12 large watermelons in an otter hide in the middle of knowhere (fellshoeshufflers checkpoint :D ), it opens at 4.00 am. But there's no knife - essential to cutting watermelons, so back home to fetch one.
Now off to a night checkpoint to see what's happening. Runners started quite fast, but not stopping to eat at checkpoints:eek:. When I advised one firsttimer to keep eating (a roadrunner) he looked at me kind of strange and asked why? Like I say, this could be an interesting (and long for them) night!
Good stuff Moley, go back and pick up the pieces later!! Hope the rain holds off until morning. Looks like it is going to be foul!
Course, you is an expert on eating and running, Monsieur Molehill!!:D
Went to the 57 mile checkpoint at midnight and a few of the early starters coming through. Fastest about 131/4 hours I think. Then Jez Bragg turned up - having started 4 hours later - looking like he was out for a 5 mile jog. Bear in mind he won the 100k road championship last Sunday . Likes his scoff though, full cooked breaky and everything else he could shovel down.
Just met fellshoeshuffler briefly. Been flagged down by loads of kids in cars and vans looking for a 'rave' somewhere about here . I need some sleep now
Just got up and the Missus phoned.
Jez is flying through, gaining speed   and expected to finish about 11.00. I need to get to the finish to see him in. He started at 14.00hrs. by the way.
A couple of team mates were partaking........what has the weather been like?
Just home for a couple of hours. Volunteered for the job of sweeping over the Elan Valley section after dark (+ bogs, rain and tussocks) :D Can't wait to get out and chivvy them along.
Worst of the weather held off till late morning. Wet and miserable now, but not as bad as expected. Load of walkers comeing through the 75 mile mark (29 hours), all looking a bit wet, miserable, fed up and mostly limping.
Jez slowed up and cruised in at 22 hours. Interestingly majority of first 10 finishers were the older and experienced looking entrants, rather then the young and fast looking.
Thanks Molehill. Good on you for getting out there, I'm sure it's much appreciated.
Having done the '100' twelve times previously, my thoughts are with those hardy souls this weekend in what (here anyway) is awful weather.
Keep going, you're nearly there :)

Thinking of doing the WHite bear way on the 16th, any info other than 'the moors around anglezarke' would be greatly appreciated.
Are you still thinking of doing it Graeme? And want the info? I did it in 2002 and can dig out the checkpoints if you want. Can't really remember what it was like (other than nice - like most of them!)
