A superb turnout for the race on a perfect morning for running – thankyou all for turning out and making it a success. After confusion at the corresponding event 12 months ago, when someone had turned an arrow and re-sited some flags, I repeated the “left, left and left again” on the start line. Tom Adams of Ilkley certainly found his way as he ran away from the rest to record a time just three seconds outside Adam Osborne’s six year old course record of 37-12.
Well done to Claire Hanson from the local Calder Valley club for a well earned win, just four seconds ahead of Ilkley’s Kate Archer. Todmorden’s Jon Wright and Sarah Grant won the veteran prizes, while Phil and Karen Taylor took the repective over 50’s awards. Jeff Norman has won my all time favourite race The Yorkshire Three Peaks a record eight times. It is always a thrill to have him at my events, and Jeff romped round to win the over 60’s prize, while Valley’s Pam Mcloed won the corresponding age category prize.
Ilkley Harriers and Calder Valley ladies won the team prizes.
Thanks as usual to all my happy band of marshals and helpers, in particular Peter McCormick who swept around and gathered all the markers in, saving me the best part of two hours. Special thanks must go to Bill Smith who travels over from Liverpool on public transport to marshal, gather markers and help compile our results boards. And of course, my Mum and Dad who provided refreshments at the finish, as they have at almost every race I’ve organised over the past 19 years. Everyone else who helped make the race run smoothly, thankyou. You all know who you are.
Allan Greenwood.
Thanks, Allan. Hope your hand is on the mend.
Sadly it wasn't filmed in 'Gods Own Country', despite the inclusion of Brian Glover (& a young Rik Mayall)

Do we need full waterproofs for this one? It DOESN'T say so in the Calendar. AND for shorter, less desperate races like this one (CM), do the waterproofs have to have taped seams?
Allan Greenwood usually requires full kit - best take it just in case
I think Allan was still looking for a sweeper if anyone is interested?
I am thinking of bringing my friends to do their first fell race to this.
Allan do you still need help flagging the re scheduled Ovenden?
I can't make the 19th cause I've got a yoga day but could maybe come and help flag on Friday????????
if it was afternoon I could possibly help too...........may we should put this on the ovenden thread if there is one?!
Hello folks,
Just over a week to go... Parking and registration at the pub please... NOT at the reservoir. As per Ovenden, please car-share where possible as they have painted double yellow lines on main road and EVERY side road since last year's race.
I would be VERY grateful for any offers of sweeping/flag gathering. It is only flagged as far as the road at the end of White Moor Lane.
You could actually set off with the race; then wait until everyone has reached the road; then de-flag the reverse of outward route!
PLEASE GIVE ME A CALL.. MOBILE NO. IN CALENDAR / RACE DETAILS

Cheers and see you all there,
Allan Greenwood
Might try and get there again this year - looks like it could be a tad breezy looking at current forecast.
Any chance of a flag gatherer or two ??? There's a drink in it for ya !!! SM:w00t:
We can help. Will get to you in the pub by 11am and bimble along behind the field.
Thanks Allan and helpers for a nice race.
My friend really enjoyed her first ever race.
well done swift-how did you get on and who won etc- did you win a prize from stringman? we went to pendle - thought we might see you as we drove through your village
- it was an interesting race - shaun godsman claimed first fpr the men and Tamara for the ladies! so thats a record for each of them!

Oops. Couldn't do a proper linky thing.
Thankyou, everyone who made this race happen.
Chris Smale who flagged the route with me on Friday, Peter Jebb, Dave Weatherhead and Barbara Carney, Jackie Mason and Bo Peep on the finish line and BrothertonLad and Brotherton Lass who very kindly gathered the markers in and saved me 2 hours work.
Finally to the Smale clan who type up the results & posted them on here a few posts back.
Thanks everyone who ran and see you again soon.

10th march?
Hello, a few of us from Pudsey Pacers are planning to run this on the 10th March. Got around 7 coming over at the last count.
This is a counter in Calder Valley's championships this year so should be a fair few red and white hoops around the route.
Link to map of route here (follow the GREEN line) http://www.flickr.com/photos/ainley-...in/photostream
It is an ANTI-CLOCKWISE loop. So you go LEFT, LEFT & LEFT AGAIN !! - and always have the windfarm on your left.
(Go right and you might make the national press again.
Please keep an eye on this thread for instructions about CAR PARKING.
AG
Who is running then? Hopefully work will allow me to be there.
I was hoping to 'hobble' but I'm not up to the distance yet, so this is looking quite good as an alternative.
...hang on, how much of this is on tarmac? It looks to be a couple of miles!
There are a couple of miles on tarmac....but it's quite rough tarmac ;) and abit of that tarmac is a fairly steep hill.
The rest of the course will make up for it though....especially if it's like today.
In fact, were it not for the race on Saturday, I'd be up there now.
Word of warning....a couple of sections of the route are on rocky tracks which can play havoc with your feet in light trail type shoes (212s for instance). If you have a sturdier sole, you may feel the benefit.
Not wanting to trash my resoled mizunos, I'm thinking an old pair of washes for this, with a sole worn down to 'trail' instead of 'fell' stud depth..!
If you are planning on coming to this one, PLEASE CAR SHARE if possible and arrive in good time (and it would help us greatly if you could possibly arrive with the correct change for your entry!)
Went for a trot at Ogden tonight and funnily enough, decided to just check the race route out for any obstructions etc.
It is quite possible to run on the verge for much of the road section if needs be.
Anyone up for a spot of marshalling? I could just do with one person at the former Withens Inn to turn runners LEFT back down to the finish. The job entails a walk of one mile up a rough track and standing around for about 40 mins. It is a good spot to take pictures with the windfarm behind the runners.
Any offers gratefully accepted, but please give me a ring or text as i will be out flagging after work.
Number in calendar (and the on-line version).

Couldn't stay to see results in the pub. Are they available online anywhere?
The results will be on the RESULTS page of the FRA site as soon as I have typed them up.
Meanwhile, here is a bit of footage I shot while you lot were having fun !!

Thanks to the race organisers for a brilliant event, one of my new favourite races an almost perfect weather.
Looking forward to next year.
