Brutal finish, amazing cakes. Top race all round.
Well done to all - sorry not to have been there. Super day for it and sounds like you had a good run Fleeter (were you there too Merrylegs?).
Also a pity to have missed the cakes.... :( Look forward to seeing the results.
fair play that man,i had trouble driving my car let alone cycling
I made that about 4000ft. Anyone else measure it?
Results are out! :p

Another great set of pictures Richard, thanks very much!
Just noticed there's no thread on this race so far this year - I've intended to do it in the past but never got round to it - looks like this is the year.
I've nothing much to add, except I notice this year the top of the figure 8 has been squished into an out and back.
One question - how bad is the climb up laddow rocks? I don't mind steep but I do fear rock climbing :o
Not much worse than Broad Stand.
Err.. hang on a minute: what do you mean, squished? Is there a map anywhere? (I was only kidding about the climb btw.)
Map on here, not sure if its up to date

The inward leg is the same course as the outward leg to and from Upper Hayden.
I think it was a figure 8 last year.

(edit: so yes, Datt, the racemaps is out of date)
Heh I assumed the Broad Stand comment was a gag!
I've only seen laddow from the top and it looks like a hideous climb. I hope there's a relatively clean route up it!
I have a real fear of rocks - I nearly got crag bound in the Coledale Horseshoe but managed to keep going. Anyone know if its worse than that?
Excellent, thanks Steve.
Are there any clues anywhere as to the route?
Did it last year Grouse and the two main route choice sections are:
from top of the climb onto Tooleyshaw Moor and the checkpoint at Crowden, and the line from the top of Bareholme Moss to the Laddow checkpoint.
The rest is pretty straightforward. Even more so with the out and back to the mast.
I did lose time getting across to Laddow on really rough (boulders/deep ferms and billberries) stuff. Not sure if there is a right way across here?
A good do this! Climb up to Laddow Rocks isn't too technical but the approach is over rough ground. Excellent sarnies and truly awesome cakes! :D:cool:
There is no right way up the first bit from the brook thruogh the bracken/billberries. If anyone tells you there is they are lying, I've tried it more times than most and still don't know. Having said that, have fun, I'm on my jollies but will miss the race and the hospitality.
Brilliant race, crackin' little yet sharp ascents upto Bareholme and a cheeky little number to gain the path atop Laddow, great butties n' cakes to finish :)
Those bogs and moors are my playground and laddow rocks is very scary in the clag. You know you are close but you know that you could end up falling at any time. Its so bleak up there. Dont know about the race but unless you have local knowledge, good navigational skills are a must
Well, for the 1st time in 5 years am in a position to run this local race (fit enough, not ill, not away)....only I'm doing Snowdon the day before and can't get a pass out. Typical.
With a bit of a recce/local knowledge the bulk of the route is navigable in all conditions, even in winter clag. The Bareholme and climb up to Laddow are 'on all fours' sections but not too bad. Worst part is coming down off Bareholme to cross the stream as there are rocks lurking amidst the turks heads.
Enjoy it, all - hope to be somewhere on the course to cheer you on. :)
Does the course go past anywhere near Ravenstones route Jan. If so i might bring up some water for you guys
Note new web address:

No, it's further east. Climb up to Laddow meets at (roughly) 057014 (on map OL1). Prob best way is to go due east from Chew Res along Chew Clough until you hit the PW then go north a bit.
Check out the OS map here: http://www.racemaps.org.uk/holmemossfellrace.htm
Any ideas of an ETA of runners at Laddow rocks?
Grouse he say thank you. ;)
Am planning to do this, although it sounds daunting from the point of view of both distance and terrain....:( Hopefully the weather will be OK, otherwise some of it sounds nightmarish. I see the route covers a fair amount of the Crowden Horsehoe route, which I ran, and enjoyed; but, this is about twice as far!
make sure the bog monster doesnt get you. It got me chest deep over featherbed moss trig point and Blindstones moss. off route but still relevant
Worth taking plenty of fluids and electrolytes if you can (e.g. Nuun tablets or daz remedy). Did a 5.5 mile race last night and my tongue was hanging out at the end, so Holme Moss will be very hard in this warm weather.
Going to see how the feet are after Snowdon, if ok will try and make this one, great route / race :)
