I think Al asked the question earlier, but it's not clear from the site if you do any more 'exhaustion tests' between the initial test and the final 100, yet you all seem to be updating your max quite regularly. Have I missed something? How often should we be doing them?

No, I just did that off my own back (trying to sneak in some extra training ;)).
You do the max tests at the end of week 2, week 4 and week 5 with the final test on week 6
As you started on week 3, you just do the week 4 and 5 ones

Re: The 100 push up challenge
Interesting sub-plot / competition warming up here ;) I thought the aim was to do 100 at the end of the programme, not try to top each other (with extra training too).

We'll be having people racing up and down mountains soon at this rate, instead of just seeing if they can get to the top ;) My training starts Monday too Al! :)

Re: The 100 push up challenge
C'mon you lot, your Fellrunner's, all your training should be outside with your final 100 test performed in ankle deep bogwater:p
-
Re: The 100 push up challenge
I don't know what they're called but my upper front chest muscles are killing me today :( Going to be a tough campaign for us non-gymnasium going types! ;):D

I am just going to see if I can top yesterdays encourageing result... how long do we have to get to 100, I need to know, as I am following my own training programme... :)

It just helps measure all our progress. We've already gained 12 extra between us.
No shame involved either: fell runners aren't reknowned for their upper body strength. Which'll make it all the more impressive when we start topping out at 100!

Would we? I have my doubts :D Mind you, I used to be able to do well over 30, so if I can get to that again with my dodgy shoulder I'd be happy :)

6 weeks is the plan:eek: But it does allow for longer if needed.

Re: The 100 push up challenge
I'd be happy if I get to 50 in that time...:o
But, as you say, positive thinking :)
-
Re: The 100 push up challenge
I do not feel too bad after the initial test yesterday; I may be tempted to move Day 1 forward from Monday to Tomorrow or Sunday
I have just realised that six weeks is just after the Gisborough Moors race so the final week may be a bit tough

Re: The 100 push up challenge
I don't want to brag or anything but I reckon I'd be able to do 100 press ups straight out of the box - not at this second but maybe tomorrow morning :D
One of the lesser useful advantages of being a 'stocky' runner

Re: The 100 push up challenge
Crippled with DOMS after my 20 on Thursday. Chest a bit better than yesterday but stomach muscles killing me :( Might try a recovery session later! ;):)

o dear, just 20!
-
Re: The 100 push up challenge
10 press-ups five times, 60sec rest.........off to do Noonstones in a bit.
-
Re: The 100 push up challenge
I've been at this for 2 weeks, but only just noticed this thread.
Just finished week 2, doing column 3 - finding it hard going, but just about managing. Exhaustion test tomorrow. Don't fancy my chances much, reckon I'll do 20-25 and get demoted to column 2 where I belong. I find it hard to beleive this will lead to doing 100 in another 4 weeks, especially for anybody who isn't in column 3, but I live in hope.

Re: The 100 push up challenge
Steady recovery 5. Not bad after 2 large bacon and tomato sarnies, large mug of tea and a Jaffa cake bar ;) tbh if I can get to 50 I'll be amazed and delighted

Re: The 100 push up challenge
Week 3 Day 2
20/25/15/15/Max (30)
Shoulder that I wrenched on Thursday night was a bit sore from the fourth set onwards, and also this immediately followed a hard Bis and Tris session. So all in all, not too bad.
The Sit Ups challenge was another story. Followed their guide to good form (i.e. holding the crunch at the top for 1-2secs). This turned out to be a very bad idea - only managed 28!!
Oh well, from tiny acorn...
:)
-
Re: The 100 push up challenge
Ahhh, the situp challenge... I am going to do those tomorrow afternoon, see how many I can manage...

Are you not doing the set training schedule? Just I can't see any of the sessions have 5*10
-
Re: The 100 push up challenge
Initial : 20 pushups
Week 1 Day 1: 10 / 12 / 7 / 7 / max (13)
Week 1 Day 2: 12 / 12 / 8 / 8 / max (13)

Re: The 100 push up challenge
Stomach muscles (I use the phrase in the loosest possible way) have settled down so tomorrow will be week 1, day 1
