I cant believe it - you have to pay more to do this run if you are not a member of a club? I've never known a fell race where you have to pay more if you are u/a! I'm disgusted!!! I may come along to this, but may have to join a club before then!
But you're a member of Clwb Rhedwyr Brycheiniog, which is affiliated to the FRA!
This may be consequence of a fell race run mostly on roads, cross country and trails.
The FRA doesn't charge any more for non Club runners but the blazers who manage other events (except track and field) charge an additional unattached levy of £2.00.
The exception are the large, professionally organised events such as the FLM or GNR, who take no notice of most Rules for Competition.
Virtually no chance I'm afraid Ds. But one day, you never know. Tell me when is this particular hat going to be dropped?
Right entry sent off yesterday.
see you all in the pub after.....
You can all have a pint waiting for me
:D :D

not sure still if i will make it yet
are you doing dave dentons race the day after this one daz?
Will the Walsh's shop be there again?
Yes, I think so
I will be spectating this year whilst Mrs AP is running, so I will be playing another game of 'Spot the Forumites'. Hope you all have a good run, I'll shout as many of you as I can recognise.
well make sure you have your sun glasses on.
I'll be wearing mi shorts!
Me too AP.
One Hill Wonder how will we recognize you, to give you encouragement? Will you be wearing a club vest, and if so which one?
JJ - i reckon i'll be able to identify you from your avatar on the old forum.
Good luck all forumites - I want to watch it at the top of the Pike itself but the missus wants to view it from the wooden gate at Georges Lane where the race crosses the tamac road (the point where i usually implode) which means that's where we'll be.
If i don't think you're putting in enough effort and i mean proper exertion and strain i'll set my two springer spaniel pups on you. :D
:( I am not coming up now
will be watching with 2 mini moos
I'm running. Hopefully my marathon is fully out my legs and I won't fall apart on the way up the hill.
So I ddn't make it. I feel bad. I really wanted to.
I hate making excuses but...
a) I'm still coughing and spluttering from last weekends disease.
b) All 4 Jolivers have been ill. The two eldest are in still in bed puking their guts up.
How did the day go?
Oh blow, sorry you've not been too good, it would have been a cracking race for you to do. Wonderful weather, loadsa people out cheering, great event.
Saw Hopey, Swoop, Grass Snake, Stagger, Pike, oh and Moo+2 cheering us on. 1st time I have done a short race, hurts like hell but its over before you know it.

Well done everyone.
I enjoyed watching the race unfold.
It was a lovely day to be a spectator, i'm not so sure if it was as lovely running though
Well done to all who raced I had a nightmare but not bad though since was first race since I did a marathon. Next on the agenda be paddy's pole and three peaks.
Not sure I enjoyed all that road stuff
I agree with you about the roads, alot more than i expected. I was goosed when i hit the road at the bottom, my legs didn't work:o
think everyone was f****d when they hit the road section.:(
Had a great time. All that support was brilliant!:D
Thou not entirely sure I was this enthusiastic about it when I started the final climb to the pike thou!
My feet are still burning!!
If I do it next year and thats a big IF, then it will be road shoes for me and not trail or fell shoes!!
The best bit about the race, sitting outside the Crown after the race with a Pint in the sun!!
Photos on Steve Bateson's excellent site.
And some more excellent pictures here
Alarming to see on the horwich website it was £600 to close the road!!

This is a consequence of The Traffic Act, 2004.
Eventually the Police will transfer their duties for road management to the a Council Traffic Officer who can then charge events for their services, including the cost of police!
It may result in the cancellation of many road races organised by athletic Clubs who could not afford the very high fees the Councils may charge.
This is another example of the many stealth taxes introduced by the Government.
they want to charge a 800 next year!!!!
Wonder if the council trace all the people who were put out by the road closure and split the money between them?
Didn't think so!
I had a similar problem when our Council wanted to charge for use of "their" park.
I responded by indirectly charging the council (i.e. the schools) for entering the cross country event. I also made it very clear that I would be charging for our services in maintaining the park (i.e. clearing the paths). The Council eventually dropped most of their charges.
The main negotiating problem was that I was dealing with several different departments within the Council, each with their own ideas about raising revenue. It took a lengthy discussion with a Councillor before the committee causing the problem finally realised the futility about charging the public for using public facilities when the events didn't cost the Council anything.
I know there's a petition going round to try and get the problem sorted.
The reason I drew attention to this Act was because in future the Council Traffic Officer would be responsible for providing police cover rather than the organiser.
At a recent Council meeting in Bolton the following was minuted:
At present the Police do an excellent job free of charge to help the local community.:) This may change in the future!:mad:Quote:

Just on the news tonight that the Horwich remembrance Day parade by veterans has had to be canceled - Health and Safety concerns (rolling roadblock used in the past), the alternative road closure/policing costs
too prohibitive......
This is my first fell race and my first time even up Rivinton Pike.
Can anybody please give me some tips for the course as i dont want to make a fool of myself by comming last or anything.
Thanks.
