Re: lothersdale fell race
That's the one run from the village show field, mid-summer I think.
I think this Lothersdale race had been held for 15 or 20 years

Please car share, or better still, cycle.
Or Cyclocross - Yorkshire summer series Oakbank school, Keighley 7.30pm start same day.
Come and do this instead, you know Brett doesn't like people spoiling his races by turning up and running them.

Re: lothersdale fell race
Is the Lothersdale fell race a tough race, are there many steep hills.
-
Re: lothersdale fell race
There's a short steepish section near the start but other than that it is fairly easy angled. When I say short I mean in the order of ten yards or so.
Any race is as tough as you want it to be :p

Lothersdale Fell Race 02/05/09
:)Has anyone done this race before, has anyone got any training tips for the race. Is it a hard course, anyone know any short cuts and routes.
Thanks.:)
-
Re: Lothersdale Fell Race 02/0
Not really a need for short cuts. Start is relatively steep then steady uphill. Beware fast downhillers nearer the top (am not fast runner). Turn at top and shoot downhill, last descent is quite a giggle, fast and bit uneven but easily runnable. No real issues.
Used by Brett and others as a night 'timed event', lst time I did it, it was snowing heavily!!!
Good event as all of Bretts are.

It's an out and back course, no real short cuts as the race takes the best line. Steepest climb to start, then a short descent on a concrete  track leads to an easier descent down to a beck. Then it's a long steady pull for about a mile until just short of the summit where it levels off for about 400 yards before the last short climb. Then just do it in reverse. Only likely to be two boggy bits, one just after the start and one about 600 yards from the summit.
Just hope it's not as wild as tonight was.

Not sure, might nip along anyway. Given the amount of rain we had yesterday, expect a mud fest:D

Re: Lothersdale Fell Race 02/0

Wrap up warm :D

Re: lothersdale fell race
Cheers Brett for a well organised event for both juniors and seniors.
My lad had a decent run, but i might as well have started my race from the trig, the amount of walking i did.
The roads to the race were fantastic too.
Long live ColinMcrae!
New tyres please.:D

It's called "depth of field" and is basically a relationship between the focal length of the lens and the aperture used. Often referred to as the area "in focus". Only one distance from the camera is truly in focus, DoF is actually those parts of the photo that are sharp enough to appear to be in focus.
Dave was using a Canon DSLR, not sure of the model - I was trying to race! A digital compact camera uses a lens with a very short focal length due to the small sensor sizes used, typically 5 - 15mm. On a 35mm SLR these would be extreme wide angles with huge depth of field so everything appears in focus. Dave would have been using a zoom around 50 - 100mm so there is less depth of field hence the background appearing fazed.
Anyway, great race. Thanks Brett. Hope the front room was as accommodating as ever :D And Thanks to the gentleman who gave me a quick lift to the end of our lane - my tea hadn't reached the burnt stage:rolleyes:

Re: lothersdale fell race
Brett, thanks for a great race: I brought two of my boys along for their first ever fell race, they loved it (George was the one helping collecting the numbers) - result, yet another bonkers activity Dad has managed to brain wash them into!

Re: lothersdale fell race
Yes, you were right Brett, miserable affair and totally shambolic organisation :D I'm not doing another Weeden production. Not even if you offer me free beer. Oh no.
Well, alright, yet another fine race, as fell races should be. But don't tell everyone. Cheers, Brett, Dumbo, Derby Tup et al for your efforts. And I might turn up at the next one, if there's lots of free beer.
