Borrowdale Fell Race

I liked that write up.

When I ran Borrowdale in 2007, they cut out the Scafell Pike bit because of severe weather (gales and rain) and instead cut off the corner running from Esk House to the bottom of Great Gable. It knocked about 800 or 900 ft of climb off of the race, maybe 2.5 miles of distance (and all those bleeding boulders on the top of Scafell Pike and all the scree coming down)....... but it was still a very chuffing tough course. The descent from the top of Gable past Green Gable and into Honister was fantastic (and a real eye opener to me at the time) whilst the climb up Dale Head went on forever and ever and ever.

I was however an even crappier climber and, believe it or not, less fit then than I am now and fancy I will enjoy it more next year if I'm not injured. The climbs are all hum dingers though :D.

fantastic race, i love the scree run off scafell pike, faster than going back to the col and much more fun

Hang on a minute.....I said you could do it if you train for it....don't just rack up after a sainsburys shift and expect to wing it!! :eek:

I've got a Google Maps outline of the course at http://www.aqvi55.dsl.pipex.com/run/races.htm

Select Lakes from the drop-down box then zoom in a bit and click the red marker south of Keswick.

Last year I managed 3 of the classics: Duddon, Ennerdale and Borrowdale all were great races (crawls) and this year, they (and the other 3) are definites on my 'to do list' of races for 2009.
I got lost coming off Gable, a notorious black spot but enjoyed every minute of finding my way back on track.
Didnt try the night life after the Borrowdale race (had to dash back) but will certainly consider it this year.
I will be there (thinking positive of course), count me in.

Count me in for this as well.

Looking at 'the bible' it says online entries after 31st May on the website or postal entries on the 'official form'

I guess this means the FRA downloaded form won't suffice :confused:

so, being that I'm for whatever reason hyper organised this year.... does anyone know when the 'official' form will be available to print off and complete?

..and as far as I know, there aren't online entries as such (cf PPP), just a form to be downloaded from the website or got from the organiser.

one question however

In the Borrowdale race details (on their website) it gives CP5 as Styhead (stretcher box) after CP4 Great Gable ... Is that right???

Mossy, I've just had a look at their website! Either it has been corrected in the last 10 minutes, or you misread!
I definitely read it as:-
CP4 - Styhead (Stretcher Box)
CP5 - Great Gable (Summit).

Glad about that (going to reccy it next week) ....

It still looks wrong to me.

Ah! That's a relief assuming I get an entry. Actually if I don't then that might be an even bigger relief:D

Get the 555 bus to Keswick, they run every hour roughly on the hour from Windermere station. From Keswick catch the 78 to Rosthwaite. the last one leaves at 17.40
