Made me miss my train this morning
Haha! Well although I had to drive all the way to work  I did make it in time for my PAT testing course, so I am fully qualified to come and stick a green sticker on you ;) (assuming you pass the PAT test of course!)
Top of Loughrigg is snow free, though there is plenty higher up. A lot of the ground is frozen, with the occasional patch of sheet ice. These can be difficult to see until you are on top of them - it depends on the angle/quality of the light. Take care.
Beast from the East, coming to the outdoors near you soon.
Not strictly snow but called in at a place of work yesterday as I saw some lights on. It's a steep drive down a narrow private lane. no worries on the road totally clear pulled on to the drive with out a thought, it looked clear to the bottom but almost instantly i was sledgeing down water ice, the road gets steeper with an iron bar gate and dry stone wall at the bottom. Mid way down there is a passing place, how I don't know but managed to slide the car sideways up a grass bank which stopped me going to the bottom and hitting the gate/wall.
I managed to straighten the car up but the road was covered in 1/4 inch of verglass, i couldn't even stand up with out sliding down the road....
It's now getting dark I'm 2 miles from habitation, there's no one in the building! It's impossible to move the car on the ice?????
Inspiration and some "Ice cold in Alex" thinking. I have 4x50cm carpet mats in the boot to stand on whilst changing after running.
So 50 m up this track in sheet ice I inched my way up.
Carpet down drive 50 cms put next 2 mats down-drive 50cm- pick up mat behind tyre and put in front drive 50cms repeat approx 100 times and an hour later I crept on to the road....
Moral of the story Carpet is great to get you out of trouble on ice
Stair carpet might save you a bit of time.
Yesterday on the Heptonstall route

Looks like a good day out that Stolly
MrRTS had a bit of a (all I can call it is a breakdown) a couple of years ago and took up snowboarding! He went twice and thankfully came to his senses :-). We put the board and boots on e-bay tonight with a starting bid, a reserve price and a buy it now price! Whoosh ....... Buy it now within 60mins of posting. Never realised so many people were having breakdowns!!!
Perfect "walking" snow above 2,000ft on the Fairfield horseshoe today - a bit of give to provide grip, but not so much you sink through it. Hard ground and quite a bit of ice elsewhere - but nothing you cannot walk around. I had microspikes in my pack, and they stayed there. Cold wind on top, but sunny throughout.
Crinkle Crags today, up via Red Tarn, down via The Band. Lots of hard snow/ice above the level of Red Tarn - microspikes were excellent. I did not meet many people but most of those I did didn't have crampons of any sort - it was quicker/easier/safer with them.
I thought we would miss the snow according to the weather forecast but we have had a couple of inches overnight and this morning here in North Manchester.
Well I didn't get snowed in at home.... Here's hoping I don't get snowed in at work!
Snowing lots here!!
About an inch in keighley but still coming.
Approximately 4 inches here in Grassington and looking forward to a run in the snow this afternoon
Plenty here in Harrogate but it is starting to melt and I havent been out in it yet, not fair work always gets in the way of fun.
A few flakes in Sheffield.. Ha ha
lots of snow when I was driving my mum to York train station but, disappointingly, it stopped before my run this afternoon. There is a bit on the ground in Masham but not enough for my liking!:)
Remember crampons tomorrow mark as you will need them on the higher ground no dowt
A few inches this morning. I got a text last night from a pal saying 'make sure you've got plenty of wood and coal in; the snow's coming', and he was spot on
A bit of a hairy drive in the snow to the railway station today. No gritting even on a lot of the main roads! On the plus side I am looking forward to a lunchtime run in the snow
Managed to dodge snowmageddon on the 4am trip to Edinburgh airport, I shal go back to sleep now and await spring
Halifax to Keighley no problem's
Snowing lightly here, but couldn't be bothered to dig the car out so stayed at home! Saves a gallon or so of diesel.
Sheffield has gone snow crazy! Still snowing and its covered well!
mountain biked it to work this morning, steady pace nice and safe. Few car drivers left without their common sence this morning I saw... ;)
Dogs gone mental and snow has more effect than a full moon.. Yikes!
Quite a considerable amount so that even the snow plough was unable to punch its way up our lane this morning. They returned 30 mins later with a double-bladed device which worked after some to-ing and fro-ing. Not that you'd know as it' filled in again afterwards :) , right up to the dry-stone wall tops - Luooooveleeeee. Think it'll be the micro-spikes tonight and full blizzard kit!!
Some great snow drifts about above Settle on Saturday. Here's hoping for even better ones on my run tonight :)

Took a run over the hill with Winnie to Litton this morning as there was a little lady up there to check on that her usual carer couldn't get too. Bea-u-ti-ful day!!! On way back decided to head Tideswell way to shop. Met an old guy in his 80's walking back to Litton on crutches in snow up to his ankles. Stops to chat and he had just been on a 3 mile round trip to Tideswell as he had a doctors appointment. I said is there no one could of taken you? His answer "tis only a bit of snow. No need to bother others". What an inspiration he was. To all those moaning about the snow, take heed and go sledging :-).
Funny but fell runners never seem to moan about it
I have just updated my blog with some pictures of the snow in Upper Wharfedale:thumbup:
