It's not that Rude Old F********************** masquerading again is it?
Went over Blackhill today with Plumbum
We didn't need to mark the turn off as it was really obvious, just beyond the big pool the paving slabs run out by a small cairn. Turn left there and off you go, there is a trod that takes you back to the original trod
I too was up there today in the pea souper, as you say the trod is just on the left were the paving slab ends 32 double paces and the trod comes to the original, turn right and just follow the montrail highlander studmarks all the way to crowden. What does bother me though is the bamboo wands that i have come accross ,one today just right of the first trog of soldiers lump and one last week after Dewerstone Clough flattens out just before Herne Stones. As anybody else come across these marker wands? are they route finders you think?
Is Tankys a race or a fun run?? Why, when some people spend hours etc preparing to race the route, getting fit, putting in the sessions and aiming to compete do we then mark the route, give the best refs' etc etc....I'm all for co -operation but my view is if you need all that you gotta ask why you're up there with a race number!.....I wonder what the record holder would say....tin hat on!!!;)
If the route was flagged from start to finish, it still couldn't be classed as a fun run. What about people to get you to the finish in a specified time. They could have bibs on with, "sub 4hrs" on the back AND they knew all the best routes thro' the bogs. Good idea?
Big tin hat on!:D
Hi CC Those wands are for the conservationist. They show where they have been reseeding, they are all over Bleaklow and bits of Blackhill, nothing to do with the race what so ever, don't use them as markers because they move regularly:p
BlueBike, the only marker( which was there already) is the small cairn after the slabs, this isn't to help way ward runners but to get us past and enviromently sensitive area as discussed previously as requested by the land owners. if we don't put this in it could affect the future of this run. apart from that you can go where you want. Feel free to go down the PW if you feel more at home on the path or head direct or go over Tooleyshaw.
You can go wherever you want over Bleaklow(missing Rollick Stones) which I would say it a much more important Descision, I have route choices that I've shared with no one and I have heard of other secret routes from others but I'm not telling ;)
Even if you knew the route like the back of your hand it would still be tough, look at the weather last year, people swimming across streams:eek:Driving rain over open fellside, deep bog, wet rock and those are the good bits;)
It's not like any fun run I've ever done.
Or do they breed them tough in Chubley
I agree 2 TOENAILS!!! pace makers across them moors...queue here for 4.15hrs....
