Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
Just been to Team Training tonight. so a little update.
The team said they enjoyed the time on the hill. We had 4 team members racing, the other athletes decided to have a BBQ by Seal Edge, the photo of this outstanding show of Manhood was taken just after the big hail squall'
..and they say we are mad:rolleyes:
Attachment 2654
I'm trying to get hold of the results, hopefully I'll get them Tuesday and I'll get them posted on the Dark Peak site
oops forgot to mention the team thanks you for all the comments.

'Twas my first Tanky's and I enjoyed every minute of it (even the driving hail and deadly paving slabs). Thanks to all the organisers, helpers and MR people and of course to all the other brave souls who came along to shout their support.
Most importantly from my point of view, thanks to the runner who helped to extricate me from the bog at the top of the final descent. If it hadn't been for him I reckon I'd still be up there trying to dig my way out of the thigh deep gloop. I owe you a pint or three!!
See you all again next time.

it must've weighed a ton by the time it'd taken some rain on board
or is it a technical tea-cosy? ;)

Well it must be a technical tea cosy because I never noticed :o, unless all the zooming round in the golf has (unbeknown to me) given me over developed neck muscles akin to the F1 drivers . I think I'm going to adopt it as my new lucky hat, actually forgot I had it on until I'd locked the car and it was too late to change! :D

Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
I spent Saturday-Tuesday in bed with flu and Wed-Thu feeling really ill, so after a short jog on Saturday which didn't actually kill me I thought I'd jog round Tanky's.
The first 1:30 to Crowden was quite fun and meeting Geoff at Crowden I was exactly on schedule for ~3:45 and had a cheery chat. The next 3 hours were not quite so much fun...
Going up Bleaklow my legs went to jelly, it started to hail, and I discovered that noone was going my way - I saw only one set of studs until Upper North Grain! Reduced to walking anything resembling uphill, I plodded on and rejoined the field rather further down and had a slightly less cheery chat with Geoff again and stole almost his entire remaining stock of jelly babies.
Realising that the quickest way home was to continue over Kinder I trotted off down the road, grabbed some Lucozade from Rick and (almost) managed to enjoy the last section.
From Crowden to the end took me approx 50% longer than my original pre-flu plan!
Perhaps I'll be more sensible in future?
A big thanks to everyone who helped organise it, and to Rick and Geoff for helping me get to the finish under my own steam - just!!
-
Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
as a newcomer to Peak District running, it was a certainly a baptism of peat.
Having only done Lakes races, running through the bog cut with groughs felt really tough and sapping on the legs, especially the crossing of Kinder - well, obviously cos you're just knackered by then anyway.

Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
I would just like to say a big thank you to Woodhead MR who sorted me out after I came down with hypothermia during Tankys’
Shortly after a dunking by the bog monster that soaked everything but my back I was engulfed in the hail storm.
Whilst been treated by the MR at the Snake Inn I was told my body temp had dropped to 33.4C – not good!
Thanks to the MR excellent team work they managed to get me in to warm clothes, feed and water me to stop the situation deteriorating
Cheers Guys & Girls:D

Glad your ok Datt, i got dunked headfirst by the bogmonster just before Crowden, got into a bit of a state after Wildboar Clough in the the hail by myself and going in the wrong direction. Took my gloves off to get the map out and couldn't get them back on again. Managed to get back on course but was severeley dis-chuffed and freezing, Manhar's christmas cake and a jelly baby then Geoff B's drink and mars bar sorted me out and saved me reaching for the emergency food. On the road to Snake Inn came round and carried on to finish:)
Them MR folk are stars:cool:

Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
WELL DONE LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!! All of you who entered whether finishing or not!! Just turning up in those conditions deserved a medal!!
An official THANK YOU from 'Tanky's team' to all our volunteers who turn out year after year; those on check points, on river crossings, road crossings, those putting up tents in force 10 gales, those boiling eggs at 8am on Saturday morning, and trailing round Makro!!!, those brewing tea all day and mopping floors when all have gone home to hot baths! and of course me and Esther sat freezing all day staring at numbers:p I would also like to thank the Landlord/lady of The Ramblers who allow us to use the area for the finish and vital electricity supply! Using this area provides us with a safe place for the finish for both runners and support.
A big thanks for the help and support of Andy, Ian and Brent for your help the last few years. Although entries are returning back to the Tanky clan for 2010, an event of this nature still requires the help and expertise of people like yourselves to ensure its safety and success especially the involvement and dedication of the Mountain Rescue Teams.
For those who were not able to make the Prize Giving the race was dedicated to Trevor Briggs who sadly passed away earlier this year. Trevor worked tirelessly for years with Tanky to make the Trog the successful event it is today and he is sorely missed by many. It was lovely to have Denise, his wife, to join us for the prize giving and welcome some of you across the finishing line.
The proceeds of the Trog have been divided between Woodhead MRT and St Luke's hospice who provide respite care for those with terminal cancer.
Finally, a number of lost items were found both in the Village Hall and outside the Ramblers. Please pm me for details.
Until next year..........
Tanky's Clan

Thanks. Any chance of a copy in a downloadable form, ideally Excel? Or have I missed a way of downloading from the DPFR website?

Select the option to go to the old version of the website, then go to the Tanky's results, right click & export to Excel.
I'm sure that's not how the web-designer expects you to do it, but it works!

Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
Well that was my first Tanky's (and second fell race!). Went into it with a dicky knee that really slowed me up so ended up with an appaling time, but at least there was people behind. Beside the time I really enjoyed it and will be on for it next year.
I went up Wild Board Clough and passed a guy in the woods at the bottom of it I crossed the clough and went up the left hand side. The guy I passed dissapeared then I think I saw him again in front of me at the top. Is there a faster way up wild boar by staying on the right and side
-
Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
Were you in bright yellow? If so it was me you passed. The fence line on the right is the best way up wildboar clough IMHO.

Yep that was me in yellow all right. I was looking behind to ensure you were OK we hit that spot during the worst bit of weather of the day. Made wild boar a bit tricker.

Tanky's Trog 2009
I have "The Old Rams Trophy" in my workshop. It's safer there than in the pile of rubbish at the back of the club hut, from where I rescued it

Hi Pat - Definitely up the right hand side of Wildboar Clough. There's a decent path either side of the fence - wouldn't like to say which is the better.

we started off right of the fence and hopped over it after a while, but must say looking over at a couple of others going up the path on the other side of the brook, they seemed to be making better progress than us - I thought it looked like more of a path, but maybe they were just fitter ...

Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
Belatedly joined the Forum. Just like to add my thanks to everyone involved. Toughest race of the year - definitely be back next year. Next time I'll reccie WBC option and avoid TS - looking forward to saving all that time!!

That's right, but it's only higher up that the path on the left is better. It's where the old path from Rollick Stones comes in, I think.

Very true the raging torrent that was Wild boar that day felt uncomfortable close at times as I was scrambling through the heather and over the stones

Tankys Trog.
Anyone got a route or map or checkpoints for this race as i was interested in how it got from marsden to edale but there seems precious little info when looking on the net. I would imagine the woodhead and snake might be crossed over at some point and kinder at the end but that's about it. Not planning anything just interested since it is quite renowned.
-
Re: Tankys Trog.
I'll take you on it this summer. We can go for a ramble one week, and trott it the next. PM me & I'll send you a route.

Tanky's trog 5/12/2010 is on!
Hi Everyone:D
Its coming towards that time of year when I'm sure you heads (if not bodies) are looking towards the December horizon and the pre-festive endurance of THE TROG!
This year it is back in the hands of the Tanky Clan, if not the man himself, and I am trying my hardest to ensure that the new modern entry system is continued and up to scratch!
For some reason the race is not in the fixtures list (don't know why as it was sent in) so please pass on the information to anyone who asks and I will ensure that the word is spread on forums and the DP website.
I am in the process of updating the entry form and it will be available very soon however any interest can be registered by emailing [email protected] and I can send forms out on request.
If you wish to phone for any details please contact 01246 414853.
Regards
Clair

The race isn't in the 2010 FRA Calendar because I haven't received any details. Last years organiser, Andy Plummer, had informed me that organisation was reverting to Tanky's family for 2010 and therefore I had been expecting the new organiser to apply to me for a Permit and associated UKA insurance. I'm sure it can be sorted out!
