10.5 miles, 2,915 feet, 3 hours 32 minutes: Rothay Bridge - Miller Bridge - Rydal Park - Low Sweden Bridge - rock step - High Sweden Bridge - Scandale - Red Screes - south ridge - Golden Rule Pub - Ambleside. Overcast, with the cloud base at about 1,000 feet, and rather misty below that. Virtually continuous drizzle. A moderately strong wind from the south. Terrain wet/saturated/streaming/slippery. I only saw 4 people on the fells, none of them runners; 2 runners seen in the valley.
10.31 miles, 3,367 feet, 3 hours 35 minutes: Wansfell Pike from 2 sides, including up the race route steps, along the ridge to the true top, down to the upper part of Nanny Lane, back up to the Pike, and down the race descent. Lots of high fluffy clouds, some sunshine/blue sky. Most of the high tops were cloud free. A moderate wind from the south. A few minutes of drizzle. Terrain wet/saturated/streaming/slippery. Very few walkers on the fell; 2 runners seen - in the valley.
10.47 miles, 2,932 feet, 3 hours 20 minutes: Rothay Bridge - Miller Bridge - Rydal Park - Low Sweden Bridge - rock step - High Sweden Bridge - Scandale - Red Screes - south ridge - Golden Rule Pub - Ambleside. Mainly overcast with high fluffy clouds; no rain; a moderate wind from the south; terrain wet/saturated/slippery. Very few walkers about; 5 runners seen.
12.84 miles, 3,228 feet, 4 hours 11 minutes: Rydal Round, from/to Ambleside. Sunshine and high clouds, and some banks of mist at various levels. No rain. A moderate breeze from the south. Very humid. Terrain dry/damp and slippery in places. Quite a few walkers on the fells; 7 runners seen.
I took the 1st, 2nd and 4th trods to the left/west on the ascent, went south west of Dove Crag and then down the race side of the wall, including the rock step.
It took me 44 minutes to get to the top of Nab Scar today - so I beat the cutoff by 1 minute.
What do you know about the process approach in sport Mike? I hear olympic cyclists in interviews going on about it quite a lot.
Very little, apart from a very basic understanding of what it means. It makes sense to me that it is important to enjoy the process - then it can become an outcome in itself.Quote:

Three people were shearing sheep on a trailer just above the old golf club - reminded me of my childhood holidays on my grandparents' farm back in Oz.

The race descent is still viable despite the bracken, but is best done with a waterproof top on.
I wore my new replacement Mudtalons today - excellent grip.
I see some people have been foraging blackberries - I had a look at our favourite spot - nothing, not even green ones.
13.2 miles, 3,220 feet, 4 hours 5 minutes: Rothay Bridge - Clappersgate - Fishgarths Wood - Todd Crag - Lily Tarn - Loughrigg tarn - High Close - Red Bank - Elterwater Common - Silver How - High Close - Loughrigg top - Miller Bridge - Rothay Bridge. Sunshine, blue sky, high fluffy clouds. No wind nor rain. Terrain dry/damp/wet and slippery in places. Lots of walkers on the fells - there must have been 30 on Loughrigg top. 2 runners seen.
There is a way of getting from High Close to Silver How without encountering too much bracken, though it is much longer than the race route.
8.04 miles, 2,731 feet, 2 hours 36 minutes: Wansfell Pike from 2 sides, including up the race route steps, down to the upper part of Nanny Lane, back up to the Pike, and down the race route. Overcast, with the cloud base at about 1,000 feet; misty below that. Constant drizzle/light rain. A moderate wind from the south. Terrain saturated/streaming/slippery; puddles and rivulets everywhere. I only saw 2 walkers on the fell, and no runners.
As to the van driver who drove through a puddle he could have gone around and drenched me from head to toe ...
