4 on the road, just to complete my modest Garmin Goal for the month. First time of got close in months! Feel back on track after bad case of 'apathy' kicked in! Felt like Spring had sprung again...third time this year I think!! Lovely and sunny all the birds singing!
8 1/2 Lovely miles on Pendle this morning. Sun shining & frozen solid so no swimming in bogs which is unusual for me!
A flattish multi-terrain 10.5 miles 1050' .It felt very cold when I set off but when I was sheltered from that cold East wind and the sun came out it felt very mild.
20 miles with Merlin from home via Delamere Forest. I think he said hello to every dog in Cheshire today.
Steady 62.1 miles at 7:04 minute pace.. tired towards the end.. 3rd in Britain.. but 7:18 was GB qualifying.. not 7:19:09.. which I never knew about.. so happy enough but plenty of what ifs...
28.2 in sun and on muddy fields or packed snow. Part White Bear and part stay on the tops and head for brinscall, then back as per A Amble - even got a cup of tea at White Coppice. Took a very muddy fall just near end - walkers coming the other way gave the mud monster a very wide berth!
I had a little run up Pendle Hill this morning from Barley. I went through the fields there and back and there were quite a few new born lambs sheltering in the bottom field. Up on top of Pendle the strong icy east wind was bitter.
9.5 miles from the Surprise View , Over Owler Tor, Higger Tor, Burbage Edge, Longshaw and home via Totley Moor and Gillfield Wood. Biting cold wind and some deep snow pockets with bog at the bottom !
Great fun and so nice to get looks and tuts of disapproval from walkers when they glance at your feet. So it was nice to respond and ask a bloke to lift his leather boot and compare grip with my Mudclaws - He lost :-) enough said Mr smug runs off .
5 climbs of Kinder. Downfall,Crowden Tower,Grindslow Knoll,Grindsbrook and Jacobs Ladder/Kinder Low. Not quite the full Killer route I had planned but still a good 5000 ft or so of climbs.
Pretty cold on top again. Is this wind ever gonna drop ?
Thanks for posting Will. We've got a part day in the Peak coming up and I was pondering how best to spend it
Really great start to our 'summer' season of Wednesday night social clubs tonight from King's Arms, Silsden. Kicking steps in snow, curlew and lapwings, shorts, real ale. Blooming brilliant!
Shorts and snow weather here too
1hr on the cx bike yesterday morning, 10 miles in total for yesterday's club run with some extra at the end for good measure.
6 miles today, about 3 of which seemed to be sliding downhill on my butt.
Thanks, strangely not at all dissapointed. Sort of find it funny really tbh.. but also there are things in life worth getting upset about.. this isn't one of them. Monday brought terrible news which brings such things into perspective..
Running again, gentle 4 miles Tuesday, slightly quicker 3 miles yesterday. Probably 5 on trails tonight. No injuries and 1 blister so got off pretty lightly. Decided 100k justified a first rest day in 115 or so days.
Thats great run IainR. I'm happy to run my regular 3 mile route in 7 min mile pace!!!
10.5 mile / 3000' from 'Purple House' (no longer there!) in Newlands valley, ran up Sailbeck path to Buttermere, up onto the first top on Dale Head ridge whose name eludes me just now. Then dropped down to the hause and back along Knott Rigg(?), the ridge running back to the car. Felt rubbish most of the way round and feel knackered today. No idea why!?
3 days. 1hr 20m on the hill, glorious weather for the club run. Highlands looked like an oil painting.
2hr 15m yesterday, quite a lot of deep snow and cornices hanging on.
2hr on the cx bike today. More wonderful weather.
not been having a good time recently but shook it off yesterday with a guided walk around the Y3P in 9.00 hours. yes thats slow but I had a huge sack and the hills were in fine form including the most exciting ascent of Inglebugger I've ever had....You better hope it's not like that on race day.
Today a glorious run with Green Flash, Russ and Exchair Paul of DP 15.5 miles taking in the Skarrett Stone-1894 Stone-Tea plant over to Barrow Stones and the Source of the DerwentIanother tea plant-Ronksey Cabin-Lord Ed Springs- Icelandic aircraft wreck-Outer edge(via a big snow bank) yet another tea plant and the V1 crater-Mickledon Pond-back to the Don and through the woods.
Great to be out again and do some exploring. Wild birds every where and mountain hares by the dozen. We only saw one other person (twice) never needed a windproof or gloves. could this be the start of summer....I wearing shorts as I type!!!!
Short steep run while Mrs E and toddler E were asleep in our holiday lodge. Straight up to the top of Offa's dyke from llanfair waterdine, along the top to the trig and then back down a track. About 5km and 200m climb, bone dry in patches, Roaches farmyard style slurry in others and snow drifts well over fence height in sheltered spots.
SHORTS AGAIN!! Spring at last!
65 mile in 17 hr within a 30 hr period with 20000 ft of climbing
followed by 5000 today on blocks
A sadly all too rare trip to Peakland today. Four climbs of Kinder (Ringing Roger, Grindsbrook Clough, Crowden and Jacob's ladder). Amazingly dry on the top and perfect conditions apart from the cold wind. c 12miles / 4,000 feet?
1.6 miles round "The big block". First run in 6 weeks.
First great weather day of the year on Kinder. Sunny, warmish compared to the last few weeks and at last that wind has gone.
16 mile Kinder Trog route in 2 hours 50. Legs a bit stiff after Mondays Four Inns epic but still a very enjoyable morning
A lunchtime 5 miler up to the 'Top of Pike' and back again. The ground is very dry up there and I ran it in trail shoes today. It was a PB for the year so far to the summit which will be down to the ground conditions I think.
6.7 miles with the club from Skipton. Curlews and lapwings in the fields with a plethora of lambs. Moorhouse Blonde Witch the drink of the evening in the Royal Shepherd. Toss up between Branston Pickle Cheddars and Seabrooks Beefy crisps as the premier pub snack :closed:
First run since putting my back out. 5 miles, virtually 0 ascent.
Nice evening but I did not run well.
Just had a quick run round the block with the pooch. Not ran for 2 weeks, not been bothered but now I want to go back out!
Nice day of training... one of the first proper ones since the 100k..

8 miles, a win but slow time at a 5 k park run this morning.
11 miles on longshaw and white edge, mainly good trails with the old dog this afternoon..
11 mile circular route from keld, over to tan hill pub (no stopping for beer) and then back via ravenseat. very boggy indeed.
10km xc run, tremendous fun.
leg 1,,5 friday 3/4 ish saturday as garmin packed up can anyone hazard a guess distance for yesterday
went from honister grey knotts, brandreth, greengable, great gable, styhead tarn skirted great end down to seathwaite back up to esk hause esk pike, bowfell, down to langdales back over tops to esk hause up onto great end,ill crag, scafell pike ,scafell, down to wasdale, corridor route , green gable ,brandreth, grey knotts honister.
still plenty of soft stuff about
When out with the local Tri club, 1 hour swim, then just under 3 hours on the road bike, the conditions we tough, very windy and wet some of the puddles/flooding was up to the crank on the bike. I found it interesting as I have never really rode in a group before, (I only got on the bike a month ago due to injury) I found the pace a pretty steady one despite being a bit worried beforehand that I might struggle on my 20 year old road bike that was given to me FOC with all the carbon fibre new bikes around.
A different and enjoyable day if not as hard as a day on the hill.

Poor 10 mile on the road. Not going very well just now! No idea why! Just feel stuffed all the time! Might have over compensated for a poor start to the year, but I'm not convinced I'm over doing it! Might have a rest from long stuff for a couple of weeks, keep out of the gym at work and see how it goes. Probably will pull out of Yorks Three Peaks!! :(
Cheers for that RtS and IainR. I'm sure it'll be short lived but it makes you feel like the seasons already falling apart in a way. I'm nowhere near where I need to be for Three Peaks in two weeks, so that may get binned. The next race I have is Buttermere HS / DazH Memorial which I definately intend doing. I happened to run a little section up onto Newlands Hause and it looked very intimidating, I have a lot to do! I think doing Three Peaks in my presnt condition might only set me back for that if I try to just get round as best I can.
Cheers again! As one or two here say 'It'll be reet!!'
Having to be conscious at 3:40am doesn't help fjellguy
Just looking for a bit of reassurance - did a good quality, hilly, 40+ mile ultra in the lakes on 6th April, but have done nothing since due to picking up a virus of some sort. Doing the fellsman next week, - if I did'nt get out again until the fellsman, would that be a total disaster?
