Great effort again on organisation Halifax harriers. Results were:
1. Calder valley
2. Barack
3. Holmfirth
It was a great day out as usual. Fantastic spirits and thanks to all for their co-operation. Some amazing performances, not least those runners who ran the inter-counties yesterday and turned up to put in fantastic times today (Messrs Mounsey, Gray etc). Congrats to winners Calder Valley for a fast team effort and to Barlick, second this year. Maybe winners next? Incredible for a new club.

I'm happy to report that a pair of Sale Harriers ladies running in a mixed team managed to beat the target time for leg 6 and claim the £100 bonus. Next year I think the men's leg 1 record is in jeopardy....those CVFR boys are getting close.
Huge thanks to the organisers and all involved at Hx Harriers for making the event happen, a massive task that's much appreciated. Big congrats to Barlick for making it a great race, future winners of the relay I'm certain.Quote:

Mlounsey, I think you'll do it. It's a shame that some of the other so called "top" fell running teams are still playing "take my bat home" and refusing to support the event (hello Bingley). Perhaps they are afraid you'll spank them. What you, Karl and Gavin demonstrated was that it is possible to come and be competitive even during the fixture packed month of May. Anyway, as you know, it is still one of the best days out in the calendar and enjoyed by the 90 teams that did show up.

Just want to echo Ben's comments - I know everyone from the 4 Holmfirth teams enjoyed themselves & it gave the opportunity for some non-fell types to get their first experience of this type of event.Quote:

Haha cheers for the photos replenishing with a stand pie after the finish, I've already had plenty of stick on facebook for that! All good fun hopefully won't blow like a pit pony next year and run a decent time!

Only a small club but we regularly had two teams in the winter version but this year was the second time we entered the May version and have not been able to muster 12 runners either time, read into that what you will
We're a relatively small club but managed to get 4 teams out. If you make people aware early enough it tends not to be a problem. Bingley have struggled getting teams out for various relays this year. Including the road relays which they have a rich history in. Ben Mounsey, Karl Grey and Tim mullholland were all running the inter counties the day before and also Calder valley have had strong teams out in the British/English champs. I don't think the time of year can really be used as an excuse.
Exactly Chewy. And it's the kind of event where you can run to enjoy yourself, even if you have had a busy race schedule. We're thinking of opening up a camping field next year so that a few teams from further afield can join in .... you never know, we might even get a band or two to make it a bit of a weekend mini-festival.
Not using the time of year as an excuse, just stating facts. Where we used to have competition to get in the 2 teams entered now there is not enough interest to fill one team, can't see us entering again.
I must say I preferred the December race.
Always something to do differently for me in May.
I do wish the race every success and feel sure it will keep growing year on year.
I know mate, and some of our runners feel the same way. However, those who have to marshal AND run, are very glad that the race is now in May. I, personally, would happily stand at Blackshaw Head for 4 hours, even in horrendous winter weather (I'd just dress accordingly), but I must admit that it's more pleasant in May. I'm also glad that the runners who marshal with me can drive to Shelf for leg 6 without having to tackle icy roads, snow drifts and other winter perils of the highway. That's before we get into issues like potential (huge) financial losses for our club if the race has to be abandoned due to dangerous weather (as happened, as you know). I won't even touch upon the obvious perils of inexperienced, slow, runners being caught on Midgeley Moor in a blizzard.
To be honest, we are only 10% down on our maximaum entries this year anyway, and (seemingly) all those that did come had a great day. Especially your lot.
TBH, Sale prefer the summer dates instead of the winter. Starting in the light is far better, the running is alot nicer with faster ground and the finish has a better feel to it with everyone outside.
Thanks very much for the compliments mom. This is the biggest relay in the uk and its a pleasure to participate. I was gonna dump inters in favour. Thats how much it means. I aint doin no 1:08. Leg 1 is too flat for me n then when i did hit climbs my legs wudnt work. Mulounsey partnership wud need a younger pup haha. I tip my hat to the harriers for organisin this leviathon. Ps im sure i saw some bingley boys in barlick. They may be new kids on block but quality team. Proud we've done back to back tho.Quote:

Halifax Harriers Calderdale Way Relay 15th May 2016 - entry notification
The race will be held on 15th May. Details are available at www.halifaxharriers.co.uk We have again added the following prizes to tempt you to challenge individual leg and overall race records·For the first male team, and / or female team to set a new course record a prize of £300.00 per team will be awarded.·For a pair that break any of the individual leg records a prize of £100.00 per pair will be awarded.In view of recent rule changes introduced by the FRA, we will have to be very stringent on the kit carried, and this will have to apply to the whole team, otherwise this will result in team disqualification, which is an outcome we would obviously prefer to avoid. Full details of the requirements will be included in the race instructions but please ensure that your whole team is aware of these in the run up to the event. To try and save on trees and stamps, should you wish to enter any teams, please email a completed copy of the attached entry form, and also confirm when your entry fee has been paid - ideally this should be via a BACS payment to the account details below (if you need to pay by cheque please let me know and I will let you have address details) Please note the entry fee is £66 this year BACS payment to the Halifax Harriers Account as detailed in the entry form. We thank you all for turning up and taking part in what is one of the highlights of the fell running year. It is a fantastic day for us all at Halifax Harriers....and it certainly is hard graft.... but it is worth it to see so many people laughing and smiling (once the pain has receded). Aside from the chump who decided ignore all the "please use the toilets provided" signs and choose the worst possible resident's wall to relieve himself against at Blackshaw Head, all I could see was happy, responsible runners enjoying the day, safely and considerately. We look forward to seeing you all again next year.
Many thanks from all at Meltham AC for another great day out. Our third year at the Relay and for what is a small club we really look forward to it now as one of the highlights of the year. On a more serious note, one of our Leg 5 runners was taken ill during the race and we would like to report that he is now home and well. Massive thanks to Mountain Rescue for all their help in getting him safe.
Cracking event as always Halifax, well done guys. Well done to Wharfedale, right battle all the way to the finish. Hopefully Calder Valley will have a full team out next year so we can all have a right go at each other. Hopefully I'll be stone or two lighter so I can run well!
Ps did anyone find a bum bag at the end of leg 3? I think I left it on the wall at the bottom of the finish area.

Logistics: the detailed organisation and implementation of a complex operation.....otherwise known as Calderdale Way Relay.
First and foremost a massive thank you to all at Halifax Harriers for what must be a logistical nightmare for those involved in organising an event of this magnitude. Each leg seems to gracefully move on, a picture of elegance like a swan on a lake....but hidden out of view, like the legs of a swan, people will be flapping like f**k making sure of a smooth operation.
Next up is the job of the team captains, we all have them, they get our arses in gear and do a fantastic job...thank you Martin and Mark for all your efforts in assembling a Chorley team. Some runners, myself included, couldn't organise a bun fight in a bakery. If I get asked to do two different tasks I will invariably forget one: " have you put the bins out?"...."yeah, the bins are out"...."have you put the washing in the dryer?"...."oh blimey, I knew there was something else".
Such is the variety of the relays it gives clubs the opportunity to muster up all manner of teams: open, ladies, mixed and vets. Some clubs seemed to have a team in every category. We kept it simple at Chorley by entering just the one open team....after Halifax FC beat Chorley FC in the playoffs last weekend I think another trip to Yorkshire in the space of a week was just too soon for some.
What never ceases to amaze me are the start and finish locations of the different legs. One year I ended up in someone's driveway after following my sat-nav..."you have arrived at your destination"...the lady feeding her horse ( no that's not a euphemism ) thought differently and wasn't shy in telling me of her feelings towards in-car satellite navigation systems....given her reaction I think it was a regular occurrence, either that or she was seriously mental.
Thankfully this year I had no sat-nav issues but did have a navigational issue by missing a stile during leg 3. Much head scratching occurred before said stile was eventually located, in fairness it was hard to spot but a reccy should've been squeezed in between races....lesson learnt, I've ran around these parts enough to realise the legs need to be kept fresh in the memory given their sometimes tricky route finding nature....roll on next year.

I would expect a man like you to have completed all 6 legs in competition dress with number.
