Probably the most snow we've had here today.
Snow's gone now.
at night fall last night I'd cleared all the snow off the cars and cleared the drive incase I was called out and to make it easier to clear this morning. 2 hours digging later I've "nearly" finished. there was a measured 11inches on the bonnet this lunch time and it's still snowing...plough have been through so main road is openQuote:

Upper Teesdale, strafed by blizzards, making running on the tops difficult to impossible when combined with innumerable soft drifts and howling gale - at least it's stopped snowing although you'd hardly notice with the amount of snow blowing around! Just returned from my 'back-door' run onto Hardberry trig (6 miles) and probably was able to run less than 50%, spent the rest of the time falling over, like some drunken geriatric. Come On Spring!!!

It's all drifts here. We've probably had about 4 inches of snow overall.
On the open fields it's only about half an inch thick. But next to the walls it about 4 feet deep. Amazing. I'll try to get some photos.
Same here Noel. Brief outing with snowboard proved pointless. Where I wanted the snow (on ridges and either side) there was half an inch and where I didn't want it (in the low lying gulleys) there is loads. We can't even get a decent day of winter sports in when it snows.Quote:

Out and about in the Dales today, got to the Queen's Head in Littondale through some seriously big drifts only to find it shut. Took the top road out of the dale, got beached on drifts twice only to be scuttled by one the size of a shed in the last 1/4 mile; would have got a pic but the powder was like sand on your face. Had to take the bottom road out through the drift that was blocking the road earlier, it had grown a bit since i last saw it and some 4x4ers and i had to dig our way out. By the morning Littondale will be completely cut off until a plow arrives.

Greenhow Hill looking to Duck Street Quarry. Shortly after this was taken the biggest snow plow i've ever seen loomed out of the powder with strobe lights flashing. It was no glorified gritter, it was based on some sort of Scammel-like HGV and had a huge V-shaped blade on the front which was taller than my car.

We had an amazing run up to Stoodley Pike today. Nearly got blown off at the top, and then had to give up on our planned route back as all the spindrift created a whiteout on Erringdon Moor. Huge drifts along every wall - and at the entrance to one farmer's yard it had drifted off his pile of bales into a massive 10 or 12 foot drift!. Thank god for fell running or I'd never have gone out there to see it all.

I'd planned all sorts of convoluted trips out for this holiday.
Turns out clambering out the back yard leads into a huge network of way marked paths. More than enough to occupy my running needs. Less time driving, more time exploring and drinking beer on the verandah.

out with the rescue team at the moment at base. the road beyond Langsett is another world, I went round a corner and the snow was twice the height of the car either side of the road, I'll get some film footage on the way home. it's amazing.....saw 2 wanabee 4x4 stuck with their slick road tyres. Not sure they were impressed when I did a three point turn in my snow chains in my seat ibiza.....

Anyone got a ground conditions report for Blubberhouses Moor/Washburn Valley area please? Need a longish run tomorrow or more likely Saturday before the BM 25 next w/e.
Not blubberhouses but we had a race on Simons seat last night. In general the open fell is quite clear but all of the snow has been dumped in tracks etc. Allow more time and some diversions but you should be ok.Quote:

Thanks Wycoller. Even at the 'dizzy' heights of c680ft in the undulations of Woodhall Hills between Leeds and Bradford there were some drifts yesterday so I will definitely be allowing more time and prepare for diversions as necessary higher up.Quote:

Today the snow has finally been sort of cleared in the lane outside our house, 13 days after it fell. This is something of a record in the 22 years we've been living here.
