Today's poet

On My Final Day.

On my final day,
I shall write you this verse,
Take heed my friends to what i will say,
My ride to salvation begins in the hearse.

You say why would he do it commit suicide,
Didn't he think that anybody cared,
I say that you could not see what was inside,
No one needed to see that your all to kind to be that scared.

The cuts and blood were what was best for me,
It was quick i didn't lay there long my friends,
I was at last going to rise up going to be free,
When life is over it is then and only then that the pain ends.

yep!

bloody nora its cold up north!, just back from a slushy hour long walk with the dog....even on this the quietest of days we can rely on tri to produce a quality bit of poetry.....where is this generator thing again?...i don't think i ever used it (the purist that I am!!!)....anyway hope you are all enjoying the first day of the year wherever you are...i 'm off to peruse and perhaps post a poem.....

A Late Walk

When I go up through the mowing field,
The headless aftermath,
Smooth-laid like thatch with the heavy dew,
Half closes the garden path.

And when I come to the garden ground,
The whir of sober birds
Up from the tangle of withered weeds
Is sadder than any words

A tree beside the wall stands bare,
But a leaf that lingered brown,

Long words.

Opposition to the belief of an official church,
In the 19th century it was the anglicans they did besmirch,
They did not want them to have state support,
These people were even prepared to go to court.

It wasn't right for the crown to head up religion in the U.k.,
The souls with this conviction said that this was the wrong way,
As you can imagine in certain parts this caused a schism,
But that's what happens with Antidisestablishmentarianism.

Softly, in the dusk, a woman is singing to me;
Taking me back down the vista of years, till I see
A child sitting under the piano, in the boom of the tingling strings
And pressing the small, poised feet of a mother who smiles as she sings.


In spite of myself, the insidious mastery of song
Betrays me back, till the heart of me weeps to belong
To the old Sunday evenings at home, with winter outside
And hymns in the cosy parlour, the tinkling piano our guide.


So now it is vain for the singer to burst into clamour
With the great black piano appassionato. The glamour
Of childish days is upon me, my manhood is cast
Down in the flood of remembrance, I weep like a child for the past.
