Baby grouses (grice?) on Ilkley Moor
Hasn't got lizards in!!!!!!!!
I can do some of the plants for you, plenty of Tea plants and cloudberries near you. theres even a super rare Bog Billbery( I would have to blindfold you both to take you there though) ;). There's loads of Lizards in the peak and a few adders if you know where to look, We saw some lizards on last nights race and there was a short eared owl about although I was moving too quick to see it ;)
Theres also a peregrine up nr Black Clough but it's not always on show. Happy to take you both out and show you some.
We got falcons at derby cathedral
Has anyone ever seen a ring ouzel in the peak. Geoff?
That's a lovely photo Wharfeego!
I had a wildlife encounter today but unfortunately it was a close encounter between my car and a rabbit...:boohoo: Poor thing...it ran one way and I swerved and then it ran back and went straight underneath. I hate killing things.
On a brighter note, saw a tawny owl and I didn't kill that.
Missus saw hummingbird hawk moth in front garden this afternoon, shouted for me but I'm a deaf old git and missed it!.
Swifts feeding hard in my nest box over the bedroom window. Slow worm population back, best is 9 under the stone. Birds nesting in garden, (but maggies have had the blackbird nest).
Are you sure that's not a weasel?
Grouse - very kind to offer a loan of the wildlife book, I'll take you up on that please. I know most of the Glossopdale gang, and my other half is in the club so sees them most Tuesdays. either that or give me a shout if yr in Glossop sometime
IDP -yes please to the tour of bog billberries and peregrine sites sometime, a very generous offer which we'd both thoroughly enjoy
today face to face with a mink on river aire near to esholt.
so thats where all the grebes and moorhens have gone.
Definitely a stoat.
Had a lovely run along the river Ure and into the woods that surrounded Mashamshire. The hot sun bought out the butterflies and one particular one was the speckled wood, saw six together dancing lovely sight.
Sorry for the quality of the photos but its been great watching the swallows and housemartins feeding and I can't believe how big the swallows mouths are!

A deer in the woods below Tintwistle Knarr near Glossop. It was red so I'm taking a wild guess that it was a Red Deer, thought it was fox when I saw the first flash of it.
I took these snaps from the bathroom window...
Just brilliant Wharfeego!!! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
Fantastic swallow pictures Hes and Wharfee :)
Not quite as nice as swallows (or as nice to swallow) but, running the Burn Valley half marathon yesterday in the full heat of the day (a 1 pm start), I managed to collect a huge buzzing posse of flies hovering and crawling around my face, head and neck and they were pretty much with me all the way round. It was almost surreal in fact as all the runners I encountered had their very own cloud of flies :). It did make overtaking or being overtaken a bit more fun though, as you hoped to offload a few onto a fellow runner!
Nice walk by the river this evening. 2 kingfisher, tawny owl and 2 young curlew were the highlights
Those photos are stunning. I know how they feel, swallow loads of flies this time of year. Yum.
This Curlew didn't appreciate my intrusion into its territory t'other evenin' up Stockdale...
Another fantastic photo Wharfeego!! I wish I'd had your skills when photographing the Nidderdale curlews when doing my artists residency. As a shameless plug...my prints (and the work of the other two artists) go on display at Number 6 Studio Gallery in Pateley Bridge next Tuesday (12th - 29th July).
Back to printing my curlew now (ink on the keyboard).
I got buzzed by a curlew t'other day too. They sound so sad it breaks your heart.

3 butterflies having a bit of a scrap at Back Tor trig - spotted them as I was waiting for the Glossopdale guys to get to this point of their 15 trigs outing. sadly didn't have the long lens on and no time to swap before they'd flown off
think we saw a Hen Harrier today while out bagging the DP calendar box...we were walking off Round Hill heading south, to pick up the track town to Howden. bird was flying east of us towards Fairbanks. characteristics are right, low effortless flight over moorland, brown! but too far away to get a decent look
anyone else seen one in the area?
I see red kites regularly over Eccup, but lots of residents are reporting seeing them over Headingley. Only a matter of time, I think, before they reach Woodhouse Moor - a new attraction/distraction for the HPTTrialists.
Already been spotted on Woodhouse Moor Alexandra.... http://www.birdforum.net/archive/ind...1534-p-56.html - see entry at Monday 21st March 2011, 12:57.
...also Harehills... http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.u...ites_1_3373044
Three red squirrels, some pigs and a deaf collie
Not exactly wildlife, but saw a wood carving of two fighting hares in a garden today. Just been googling wood carvings and came across this talented bloke. Some beautiful work and his fighting hares were done with a chainsaw!

Is autumn upon us? Driving into work today, I noticed that leaves are turning brown and starting to fall.. the conkers look bigger than usual for the time of year, and even the apples on my tree have come early. And the schools haven't even broken up for summer.
Is this due to the freak weather this year, or something more permanent....?
Can't get out at the moment due to work and a dodgy ankle so not many wildlife sightings but a spider just ran inside my laptop....it is hiding between the keys, in fact I think I may be putting its life at risk by typing so I'll stop now:o
It seems that spiders have death wish in my house, just spotted another biggie crawling across my print as it was about to be wound through my press...that would have been very messy!:D
We went for a trip over sections of snowdon and for the most we only saw people from a far. Which goes to show you that despite the race and the 3 peakers solitude and an unexplored ground can still be found.
3 seperate herds of goats including one "billy" with huge horns, I knew they existed but don't think I've ever seen them before.
How did you know his name?
Saw a cormorant standing on the bridge over the Ribble at Stainforth on Friday afternoon. In fact I got within 10 feet of it and had just about got ready to take a photo and the bugger flew off. I'm not sure I've ever seen a cormorant in the Dales before - is that at all common?
