I reckon a frozen course would hurt your feet after a while. Running on frozen churned up mud is worse than bog trotting. And those shin scraping icy puddles that give way underneath you..!

ALex, I am so far from being a race horse you can't even imagine!!!
Rob, your vet team mate's winning time is simply awesome. I'd like to think I could manage that performance when I'm that age but somehow I doubt it. If I can't manage it at 47, after 15 years at it, then the chances seem rather low. (That sounded a bit suspect; you know what I mean!)
pb, Alexandra, I manage pretty well on the frozen stuff. I glide over it without any problem and make much more efficient progress than when bog-dodging. Of course I would never try to race over it, but I haven't got the energy to race over the bogs anyway, so the net effect is more speed without injury over the frozen lumps.
I've just posted a report with fewer pictures that I would have liked here.
Cheers Chris. Good time yourself, 3.37 ! I think mine was a one off, never to be repeated feat. Not entered Blubberhouses as yet. Down for The 4 Lakeland Passes, Trollers Trot, Wharfedale Off Road Marathon & 3 P's thus far. How about yourself ?
Agreed that the winning time was absolutely incredible, especially in the conditions. To be honest many of the fast times deserve absolute respect in the given conditions. Then again I think everyone who finishes deserves respect :)
Not sure about frozen ground causing shin splints, aren't shin splints more of a result of things like increased mileage too soon and poor rest? Frozen ground is more ankle twisting in my experience but the guy I was running with said last year the ground was frozen and it was easier and quicker. Two years ago I'm told it was deep snow and really beautiful up there!!
Thanks. Good photo's Britnick! Two questions though:
1- looking at the photo's of 2009 are you one of these insane men that wear really short shorts even in minus - it's a bloody freezing!! :w00t: And why are standing on snow in bare feet? I think you may be a bit more robust than me!! :D
2- where's the piccies of the all bog this year? How can we ever remind ourselves of just how boggy it really was without photographic evidence....even the the muddy bog stains on my feet will disappear with time ;)
