Nothing really to catch you out - I'm about 2:25 pace and it was around 1 hour to the top of Robinson, but the climbing doesn't really start for around 15 minutes.
From Robinson, it's pretty decent running for most of the way. Confident descenders will come down Dale Head no problem, for others a swing to the riight gets you a gentler line.

Jesus christ. Ridiculus really. But as you say, no option unless you want to park a long way away and walk, cycle or car-share and split the costs.
I hope they donate some of the money!

Yeah it was about a fver last year a right rip off as if it doesnt cost enough to get there in fule expenses, my dad questioned last year why it was so expensive to park the farmer simply repilied coz ive got'a bloody pay for repairs after you lot ave been in there. ... £5x500+cars you do the maths ..

Pay for repairs....what a load of bull!
Last year the weather was amazing, and the ground was solid. There wasnt any damage to his field other than abit of trampled grass!

Exactly like you said Al whats he doing with all the money he get ..? most proabaly pocketing it !!

Re: Anni Waltz entries now on
good for him letting us park, cos it would be a bloodly long run/walk in otherwise, due to the NEW newlands parking restrictions.

Re: Anniversary Waltz
Slighty 'Off topic', but can you do entry on the day? Just tried the online entry and it's closed - my fault for being soooo last minute!

Re: Anniversary Waltz
Was due to go up to Dalbeattie to do a MTB Orienteering event, but I thought I'd save petrol and get trollied at a friends BBQ in Braithwaite afterwards. Need a few hills in prep for some hilly races coming up.

Re: Anni Waltz entries now on
I understand the same farmer charged a bit less less for parking at the Newlands Duathlon yesterday, I think it was £3 per car (I'm not sure I went on my bike) - but it shows that he isn't just making a profit, he seems to be charging based on the amount of work/damage to his field he expects, which seems pretty reasonable to me.
-
Re: Anni Waltz entries now on
for us it's simple's no carpark no race... the valley cannot support the amount of cars we get.... so you should really be thanking the farmer.
just an aside the total entry is down from last year .. so you might have to wait a tad less to get into the carpark!!

Re: Anni Waltz entries now on
Are there any water stops on this route? Which of you carries water for this and who doesn't? I'm in the rucksack/bumbag dilemma!

Re: Anni Waltz entries now on
Is anyone camping at Braithwaite?

Anything to avoid carrying water. I've never had a problem with the water at the crossing near dalehead tarn. Just take it slightly upstream from the runners and you should be okay. Convenient part of the race to have a swig as well.

I would carry MG just to be on the safe side.
PS This has to be one of the nicest routes in the lakes on a clear day. I do hope you enjoy it:)

Anni Waltz Thoughts.
Would i be right in thinking because of the severity of the climb in the first part of the race it would be prudent to take it steady until reaching the top of that summit thus saving much in reserve and then start going for it from there ?. Does that sound about right ?. I'm looking at this from the perspective of a back of the pack person.
-
Re: Anni Waltz Thoughts.
Im wondering the same.
I wound't quite go for it straight away, its still a long way with a fair bit of climbing left until the top of cat bells.
Just see what feels right I suppse, and if its hurting im doing it right.

Is it easy to get to the start from Braithwaite with no transport?

It's about a 2 mile walk so I'd say it was pretty easy, at least on a nice sunny day! Just leave the village following signs to Newlands and Swinside and Stair (which is where you want to be), Turn right when you reach the Swinside Inn and you can't miss it. I seem to remember, from many years ago, following a footpath that followed Newlands Beck starting from a bridge just outside Little Braithwaite which would be a bit shorter
