You are a lucky man. Did you see Neil Young at his peak? Old Black is a very special instrument.
Big Star are an interesting band, their first couple of albums are quite good, but I prefere the material which came ater the song writing duo Chris Bell and Alex Chilton split.
Third/Sister Lovers was written by Chilton and is up there with Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue, when it comes to undiscovered gems from the 70s.
Chris Bell was killed in a car crash aged 27, but there is a collection of his post Big Star recordings called I am the Cosmos. Well worth a listen.
About 10 years ago. He sang some stuff that later went on Are You Passionate? like Goin' Home. I listened for that first time and thought this is Neil Young in all his pomp and glory. No one knew what it was and all the internet reviews later that night were "what WAS that?"
I was standing bang in front of him just under the stage. Mesmerising.
I have liked his stuff since he started but not much recently.
As the still brilliant Randy Newman says "I have nothing left to say. But I'm gonna say it anyway.."
