Commute to chesterfield station rather than sheffield this morning - only a bit over 10 miles but taking me 50mins what with hills (250m/800ft) and pannier. Might try go for the return as well this evening (slightly more up).

Couple of hours on the boards and again managed to carve a wee bit off my 500 meter TT :) slowly getting stronger... So the hopes are up for when I start doing specific training for that 500 m TT :)
Oh and an hour on the rollers last night, in stead of the planned early morning 2 hours on the road... as it was too cold, wet and windy and especially still dark at 7 am :-O
Sort of but not really.....
Little bit of a jaunt from somewhere in Cornwall to somewhere near Thurso, not strictly a Steam Bunny event but we have been invited.... rude not to and all that!
I expect there will be an official Bunny outing at some stage as well. I'll keep you posted.
oh and today, swift 30 miles once the ice melted!
Ok Toff, keep me posted on any Steam Bunny stuff :)
I sneaked out for 2 hours on the road today, in the middle of the working day. As per coaches instruction, I am basebuilding so riding in zone 2 at all times... Well, I averaged at the top end of zone 2 with my heart rate... bit difficult to keep it bdown on climbs... And my God, my legs hurt :w00t:
How come this was so much harder on the legs than riding on the track, where the heart rate tends to be so much higheer? Ok it was cold, but I wasn't suffering with it withy all my winter woollies on... Yes, there were climbs, but I wasn't attacking them and yes there was wind, but I was slowing down to keep the HR down... so the effort was clearly much harder than perceived while doing it. Weird...
25k with eldest son (15) in cold fog.
Great result to get him to come with me and he says he enjoyed it and can we go again next week.
Can't wait.
Had a week at the sister-in-law's, down in Wiltshire; and took the 'cross bike with me. I've now covered covered a big chunk of the Ridge Way; from the SW extremity at Alton Priors ( SW of Marlborough ) as far E as the A34. They might not have 'proper fells', but there's some brilliant off road riding across the 'roof of Wessex'; not to mention loads of other old unsurfaced byways and a fantastic network of cycle tracks on old rail-beds.
that sounds fab WD!
Hann - could it 've made your legs tired because you'd done a few days in a row?
Stagger - I experienced some cold fog today (wore my bright yellow cape, and kept the lights on my commuting bike which is doubling as my winter bike) - a step into new distance territory for the year - the big 5-0! including slush, clag and winnats pass! - really feeling it in the last 10 miles - pretty pleased.
That Rodgeway is mighty fine... I have run along there, in a relay, would make a great thing to do on a crosser :)
Excellent riding ratfink, and I think you may be right about the two days in a row... this week was the first week where I did more than 3 sessions, and got back into doing two or even three days in a row of riding... However, the legs weren't too bad on the track Friday, which was day 4 of consecutive riding... Think it is the cold that makes things worse, as I struggled on the road again yesterday and it was cold but I had had a rest day on Saturday...
Well, rest day... up at 5 am to get to Manchester for the World Cup track racing... and not back till 2.30 am on Sunday :-O But an excellent day and night of racing was had!!! All fired up now for the conversion from roadie to trackie :)
Been out this afternoon for what was suposed to be a recovery ride.
Got battered by the head wind, legs tired from pendle recce yesterday and to cap it all a fron puncture in the most exposed part of the route.
A chard of glass about 5mm off centre of tyre. Less than 100mile on the tyre so its had the stagger repair treatment. Supposed to be a good winter tyre but I'm not impressed. It was a Schwalbe Durano.
Onwards and upwards.
25k with 500m ascent. And I intend to have a couple of beers now.
I'll be back on the thread again tomorrow.
