Like others have said, the strip maps (downloaded a few days before and waterproofed somehow) are very good. For other big events I sometimes do myself a series of Tracklogs sheets on A4 but never bothered for this event because the strip maps are so good. However, as others have also said, a reconnoitre of the last few sections is an excellent idea. I did that with a few friends last year on the previous day and it proved invaluable for after the last checkpoint when the head torch had to go on and the route became fiddly.
Would anyone be up for a recce this year? We did Maltby to the finish last year (less than 10 miles). Firbeck to the finish would be 15 miles. All we need is a kindly driver to abandon us to run back to the finish, or else some car shuttling would be required.
A convenient local hotel for Friday night accommodation is the Sandygate House Hotel, Wath Upon Dearne. It was ideal last year for a Friday recce and early Saturday start.
