The world is a happier place.
Poor game, great result!! I'd say Man U were marginally crisper passing but zero penetration. City seemed to occasionally lack belief, and were poor in front of goal when they had opportunities!! We had a lovely trifle at half time tho'!!
I agree. I felt that would happen when I saw the teams. Utd have been most effective going forward this year with Valencia, Welbeck, Young and Rooney playing together and I think Ferguson overreacted to the last result when they leaked 4 by playing Park who was largely ineffective.
City did very well with their full backs which they may not have been able to do with Valencia and Young on the pitch.
Interesting match and perhaps more to come yet.
I can quite see a narrow City win against Newcastle, but I could see Swansea taking quite a tonking and the goal difference being a lot closer going in to the last game.
Tick Tock...dingalingalingalingalingaling
just watched the highlights and from the bits I saw justice was done. well done City.
but where's Danbert? punch Drunk in some bar? delirious with happiness?
Stay calm its not over yet...
I couldn't believe it when that dog eating tosser came out for the second half.
I feel sick to the pit of my stomach after that. what a turgid, spineless performance from everyone in a united shirt.
We have nobody who can kick people up the arse and grab the game by the scruff of the neck when we're playing badly.
Think of all the great players we have had over the years and then compare them to the frauds and bottle jobs that pass for united players these days.
The worst thing is it's only going to get worse.
f*cking hell, i'm absolutely gutted. I hate those blue nosed bastards.
Congrats danbert et al, comissers the heathens et al. Did not watch it but the result sounds like it was almost stalemate.
What a night.
What a wonderful, wonderful win.
Maradona singing na na na nanana City.
Fergie cracking up.
But we've got to stay focused and get the job done now
It's in our hands again, we can be 3 points clear by the time United play again.
Let's not underestimate either Newcastle or QPR
Come on City
It wasn't an end to end classic but given the tension and what was at stake I thought the match was quite absorbing.
At the risk of stating the blindingly obvious, next weekend is absolutely key now. Whoever is top on Sunday night will win the title in my opinion as I can see both clubs winning their final matches the following week. (Some people think it might be tough for MU at Sunderland but they have nothing to play for and their recent form has been poor.)
MC's game at Newcastle on Sunday is as huge as last night's. I'd now put City as slight favourites for the title on the basis that with two games to go it is in their hands but I'd say it is no higher than 55:45.
These games are never classics.. too much at stake
I think City are now favourites.. but look at how its swung back and forth..
Tough games to come.. City could end up playing a QPR team fighting to stay in the league.. Look at Newcastle getting tonked last week.. its a strange season..
Not at all what I expected form the City and Utd fans, some mutual deference for City from the reds and only mild(for Danbert) smugness from the blues.
Could it be that both sides are so nervous and the result of the years work so tight that both are so on edge as to be unable to debate like mid season....
any one got a coin....
I can see 2 draws and 2 wins over the next 4 games........
OTT and uncalled for as Nikalas says.
Alan Brasil said this morning on Talk Sport that Fergie is getting slated for getting his tactics wrong, but as Brasil pointed out, they were 1 goal from a set piece away from taking a draw and him being hailed as a tactical genius.
I do however believe he got it wrong. Most of Utd success and best football this year has been with a front four of Welbeck, Rooney, Valencia and Young. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though and who knows with them playing it may have been more entertaining but still the same outcome.
It's still a long way from being over though - it's swung a few times in the last 2 months and as I say, I wouldn't want to be in Swansea's shoes - that could be 6 goals + and go a long way to levelling up the GD.
Could it come down to Goal's Scored even :w00t:
Regardless of that..
1) no one should question Fergie.. Maybe he gt it wrong.. you make 100 calls.. he gets more right than anyone
2) We have never replaced Keane.. that's what we need when a game has turned against us.. but a new Keane is like rocking horse shit.. I'd like to get Schweinsteiger..
3) Yeah abuse over the top.. we've had a good season.. look at the points total.. the players have given their all.. regardless of what happens from now on...
like Iain said, not a classic
but an exciting high intensity affair
Giggs was anonymous, Park didn't do much apart from dash about closing down for 20 mins
Rooney didn't do much except scream at the referee for every possible minor decision
how much did ManU pay for Jones again? they were robbed
meanwhile...
Barry was immense, Yaya, Kompany, Lescott...
Maradona in the house (!)
fantastic atmosphere
I'm worn out
not sure I can hack all this high pressure top end of the table stuff
think I prefer a quiet life in mid table
Jones.. I think the pressure got to him.. but he's had a good season.. but tired towards the end..
I wasn't hopeful, I just don't think we can compete with your power at the moment, our midfield is lightweight compared to Barry, Toure and Degong..
And if you don't have control of the midfield.. you'll struggle.. then Rooney will got no ball and get frustrated..
As far as this weekend goes. Not sure why everyone is writing off Swansea against Utd and by a big score? They beat Man City and a win can send them 3 places higher if other results go for them. Isn't it something like £750K per position in the league on top of other benefits? All good reasons to give them a chance I would have thought. As far as Newcastle is concerned then keeping Cisse under control is the main requirement really and Kompany will have that job no doubt.
I partially agree. While I expect Man U to beat Swansea fairly comfortably I'd be very surprised if they amassed the number of goals that would make any difference to the title race should the teams finish level on points. Man U have to win by at least 10 goals across two games if City win both theirs. I really can't see that happening. Their best chance lies in City slipping up at Newcastle.
Silly time.. how many results could be predicted at the moment... look at Wigan.. you have teams playing for nothing - does that mean they play with no pressure or don't care.. teams fighting to stay in the league - under too much pressure or will they play well.. its so unpredictable when you get to April..
Uniteds only attack of the evening
http://i47.tinypic.com/15s926v.jpg
Will they call the Glazers in to fix it.:w00t:
Danbert, have you seen the photo of Rio getting a little bit 'visibly excited' about Kompany's goal? On my phone so can't post it but will later. Made me laugh anyway
Now that's a good argument for zonal marking
That Newcastle result looks ominous. Then again the Geordies have just beaten a much changed Chelsea team that have played every 3 days for the last few weeks and have a cup final in another 3 days. On Sunday they will be playing a team that has just pulled back an 8 point deficit to go back top of the league, has the best attack and best defence in the league and is bang on form and looking for the title.
It will be tough and we will have to play well to win but we are not top of the league by mistake. Come on City.:)
Last night's results have made things even more finely poised and interesting in the various Premiership battles.
Bolton's defeat tightens the relegation scrap, giving QPR and even Blackburn a chance of survival.
The battle for the Champions League place(s) is now extremely tight between Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle with Chelsea probably out of it. UEFA's rules mean that the team that does end up finishing 4th will be praying for a Bayern Munich victory in this month's final since if Chelsea win, they will take the 4th Champions League place for next season.
With the tussle for the title obviously going to the wire as well, I can't remember a better finish to a Premiership season.
The Heathens here in my opinion is a top article - written by a red!
http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereven...now-thats-rich :)
Unpredictable isn't it.. one minute Newcastle are shit.. the next great.. then we have swansea.. under no pressure at Ot.. game of their lives then we have sunderland.. then you have
QPR.. playing for their lives..
Great season..
Fair play to City for hanging on in there and getting back in. Who ever wins deserves it. But regardless we've had a good season, a good points total, so no reason for panicking.. I think City are now favourites.. but I'd say 60-40 at best... Look at Liverpool Arsenal all those years ago.. 'football bloody football'..
You could also say they are a team that have lost a similar lead... lets just hold on.. watch.. and see... United fans are understandably cautious.. in defeat and victory.. City fans are 'it's all over'. 'we'll win'.. just wait and see and if you do win, you do deserve it. The table never lies. If win likewise.
Happy Birthday Danbert. Hope you get a nice present tomorrow!
Biggest full moon of the year tonight but will it turn blue after Sunday? Another great weekend of footy ahead! :D
Thanks Colin. We're setting off in the next hour and are staying in South Shields tonight.
I have followed city with a passion since my first game as 4 year old where i was apparently sat on my dads shoulders on the Kippax Strret in 1968. I've lived it all, excitement, worry and pain.
Everything is right for us going into this game. Everybody is available and staking their own claim on glory. We are playing well. The current team is picking holes in good defences. Our tails are up and the lads look like winners.
You can smell the fear from old trafford. It smells sweet .
You can't count your chickens with city of course, but I'm flushed with belief. Its tempered with the knowledge that lady luck can kick us. But I'm buzzing with hope.
It has never ever been more exciting to be a blue. Right here. Right now. With the hand of history on our shoulders.
Come on City:)
What they've done with the FA Cup is a bl**dy disgrace!! I know its tricky because of the European Nations Cup thingy! But 17.15 after the Championship and other League games! I'll miss second half because I'll be on my way to work!! They're totally content to devalue the damn thing for TV and convienience!! Gits!!
....Good Luck Danburt!! Hope City win v. Newcastle!
Even more so now that Wengers boys have forgotten how to win. Am now seriously worried about champions league.
Newcastle 0 - Man City 2
Very enjoyable game, just for what was at stake for both teams. Now what is going to happen at Old Trafford ?
