Re: Crowden Horseshoe - 13 May
Starts on lane to the YHA (Note the new one, not the old one) therefore does not run through the forest to start. Then after the final steep dowhill section turn right on the lane and run back to the new YHA. (The new YHA is in the old Roterham Outdoor adventure centre)

i recced it this morning with my wife , saw 2x fellrunners , didnt recognise any of them , lass and lad , lass had a red helly on
i think the only part i could really get wrong is straying to far left after the right turn at the trig, there isnt really a marked path for a few hundred mtrs over the peat until you cross the stile and pick up the path again.
someone has left a cracking silver SIGG bottle a bit further on so if you pass that your on the correct path:rolleyes:
yes it was a tad wetter ,just enough to make the peat nice and bouncy

There are several stiles at the stage you mentioned Daz. I aimed for the one closest to the gate. Des informs me this stage of the race will be flagged, but we have all seen Des' flagging of courses!!!!!

I noticed that but left it. I am sure the person who has droped it wont be going back for it. Lots of young students out this weekend on that path lookig like they were doing D of E walks.
Re: Crowden Horseshoe - 13 May
Do the biys & girls run together in this race even though its the inter-counties?
Re: Crowden Horseshoe - 13 May
Didn't know there was a new hostel - I guess that's the house that was being renovated last year?
Is the big car park down from the old Youth Hostel stil open? I've always dropped the car there when camping at Crowden, much easier than driving across a field. Am planning to camp over on Saturday night and would like to avoid the field if it is still possible.
Re: Crowden Horseshoe - 13 May
yes lots of young students out today with backpacks bigger than themselves
when my amanda saw the two fellrunners skipping along she said to me , oh daz look two runners i wonder why they are running here.
perhaps there is a race
im not sure i said
i will have a look in the calendar my sweet i replied
err yes love we have just recced it :)
Re: Crowden Horseshoe - 13 May

Re: Crowden Horseshoe - 13 May
Car park is still there. Car sharing would be advisable.

There's been some hideous roadworks along the woodhead pass too; don't know if any are scheduled for Sunday but best advised to leave early I reckon.
I'm very good at raindances it seems.
