Just done a recovery dog walk to the chippy, with a bottle of ale waiting for me at home. Already had a snooze and a good long soak in the bath.
Mostly looking forward to bed though!

Well done guys. Hope it wasn't too boring going up and down the same chuffing hill for so long. How about trying the same distance and climb over more than one hill next time? Just a thought ;)
( I fooking hate pendle if you go up it more than twice in one go)
ay up Stolly!! We kept talking about you actually yesterday, saying how much you'd be missing our lovely run!! On every climb we said, Stolly loves this bit in particular!!! I suspect you did some glorious run in sunshine and have some fabulous pictures to show us? Actually, I was annoyed all 3 of us had no camera to record our day!! Anyway, I feel fine today, other than a new knee injury, so I might have a saunter round the Settle Tough Trail since the scenery is fantastic and then I can have loads of cakes at the end!!
Can't seem to get Garmin Connect working for a link to the route at the mo' but SportTracks says 22.8mi & 6,918ft of climb. This is a lot shorter than anticipated, and looking at the SportTracks map, there appears to be a discrepancy: Mile 12 came at scran stop at FTOP CP1, and mile 13 came at FTOP CP3. Only 1 mi between these CPs? Something's amiss.
I estimate we're 3-4mi short of actual distance. Don't know why, but might have something to do with the buttons bumping themselves as I was running along. Due to lack of waterproofing I'd stuck Garmin in a ziplock bag and in my jacket pocket. I noticed a couple of times beeping coming from my chest, but after checking, it seemed I'd just bumped the lap button. I think I only got Rachel to put my Garmin in the lid of my sack just before the res. There's a chance that somewhere between FTOP CPs 1 & 3 it stopped itself and got itself going again.
It all shows on the map though. But a bit frustrating all the same:mad:. I'll put the Garmin Connect link up when I can get it working again, so you can see for yourselves.

Here you go. If you go to 'Player' and hit play, you can see when it gets to FTOP CP1 it then jumps instantly to FTOP CP2, meaning it had somehow stopped itself at CP1. Looking at the OS Map, I reckon this is an additional 3.5mi, taking the total distance to 26.3mi. Impact on ascent would be negligible, mainly downhill from FTOP CP1 to CP2, barring some undulation along the Ogden Clough section. Would also suggest this would take our overall time to nearer the 7h45 mark.
Anyway, overall I really think this run should have been beyond me based on how fit I am. I set this date 6 weeks ago, but work has meant I've not packed the training in as much as I'd've liked, but despite bonking twice, Rachel and Hursty pulled my lazy arse round. First, I went on the climb up from FTOP CP3, and second going up the penultimate FTOP climb - the second time much to Rachel's hilarity! I stuffed a load of food down my neck in the shelter at the top of the climb, and just felt sooo tired. I just wanted to curl up and go to sleep, genuinely struggling to keep my eyes open.
In my head at this stage I was tossing up between jacking it in and heading for Downham at the bottom of the next descent; or thinking that I wasn't really sure I'd ever attempt this again, and therefore it would be a shame to give up with only one more climb to go. Luckily, Hursty & Rachel cajoled me back to my feet, and at some point on the descent to the bottom of Big End, I started perking up. A storming final climb by all three of us, and a concerted effort to run to the trig (damned walkers!!), and all that remained was the run back to Downham for a wash in the stream.
Had four seasons in one day chucked at us at various times on the hill: started off in heavy mist, and we could just about make out Runway and a few other Clayton lads out for a run on our first climb. We then had really hot sunshine, quite heavy rain, more mist, more sun, some strong winds... Most of our stops were enforced costume changes, putting jackets on and stripping off again.
A cracking day out, and - I know Stolly's thoughts on this - not as monotonous as you might think. Was the odd sense of de ja vu where we crossed our tracks from earlier, but the Pendle Cloughs route is a great one for seeing the lesser known sights of Pendle.
Despite my mucking up the distance measurements, I've just noticed the Garmin Connect site gives an 'elapsed time' figure of 7:52:02 - this will be the overall time for the whole route. Ladies and Gents, you have your marker!!
Well done, credit to all of you.
Fools or something like that came to mind when you told me what you were doing in typical Pendle Weather.
What next on the agenda SS?
Thanks for the report SS ! I knew it was longer than 22 miles!! God, I felt it in my legs today at the Settle Tough Trail. I set off feeling tickety-boo, but the first ascent saw my legs screaming " noooo, not again"
My sister got me round with her chat /humour and I am glad I tried it now, but boy, was it tough! I still can't believe that you did it, given your colour(the same mustard/yellow of a corpse/your Rab smock!!) at certain points. And then you became this spritely goat, skipping and prancing to the finish like Ian Holmes!! I really appreciated and laughed at Stolly's reply about never doing Pendle more than twice(we knew his response)! However, I now feel like Neil Armstrong, the first to conquer a certain feat!! Plus, a double whammy Brucey bonus, I miraculously have a "footer" !! How cool!! If I get an icon when I press send, I may start believing in fairies!! her goes.......:D
Well, I meant "here goes" and I wanted more than 1 icon! However, 1 will do for now..
Great report SS!
I knew the Garmin must have made an error at some point, I was really scratching my head when it was reading only just over 7 hours, when I thought we had to pick the speed up to finish just sub 8 hours!
:D
Thankyou both again for a fantastic day out, am deffo planning some longer stuff now I've set that benchmark, it was twice as long as I've ever been on my feet before and I felt good throughout, although I think the copious amounts of food including a good old pork pie had something to do with it! :)
