Ha ha thats the only bit where I went wrong yesterday ! Didn't see the trail at all from Mow Cop to Kidsgrove station
Agreed most of the route is easy to navigate . In fact you don't really need to navigate as its really well signposted.
I'll be having a proper running attempt south - north in a month or so. Your 6 and a half hours looks a pretty good time Splatcher.
Thanks for he advice - may give this a whirl sometime soon
Lakes or Gritstone today. Weather forecast didn't look great in the Lakes so I went for the Gritstone.
Early train from Disley and on the trail in Kidsgrove at 8:45. Chilly morning but not too bad so put the shorts on. Regretted that later.
Easy leg 1 and had the 9 and a bit miles done in 1 hour 45. Hoped for 7 hours total so was well on track.
Leg 2 started well. Climbed the Cloud nicely and then hit the bogs in the valley. Went knee deep a couple of times but manged to stay upright at least.
Climb up to the tv tower was tough. The wind had got up and was nearly knocking me over. It was freezing cold too and I so wished I'd not worn shorts.
Had to really battle this section and I paid for it, was flagging by the climb up to Teggs Nose. 3 hours 10 for the section was ok though.
Leg 3 was tough from the start. Some pretty deep snow drifts around the Cat & Fiddle area and then the climb up to White Nancy all but finished me. The wind then decided to come back at full strength and of course it had to be a headwind up to the high point over Lyme Park. Got a bit of a second wind though and managed to get down into the park pretty quickly. Too quickly I think though as my energy had all gone for the last couple of miles to Disley. Time for the section 2 hours 20
Overall 7 hours 15 and a great day out. Not bad considering the conditions and the fact its the longest I've ever run. In dry conditions I reckon 6 hours might be achievable for a middling runner such as myself
Ran it in the More Mile Cheviot 2. Faultless all day. Grip was excellent in the mud and snow and even felt pretty confident on the ice bits.Comfortable too, feet feel fine tonight. Walked / ran it in Wave Harriers a few weeks ago, the Cheviots are a different class
There's now a race on this trail, in September. South to North ending at Disley. Interested to see what times are posted for it. https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.ph...&event_id=1029
I'm going to do this in October with a pal from South to North. Did people who have done it find anywhere to top up water? Or did you just carry what you could and make do?
I think Teggs Nose visitor centre has a tap but not sure where earlier- somewhere around the cloud would be ideal!
thanks
I can't remember what I did but it wasn't a problem. It was fairly wet and cool so what I carried may have been enough.
