im def not an overprotective parent , the topic was taxiying your kids about after dark, my lad does go into town say on a saturday afternoon with his mates and is fine no problem, daylight time yeah, but night no way.

would you let your kids out wandering about either walking home or whatever say after 8.30/ 9.00 at night

One advantage of providing taxi service to your kids is that you can help prevent them get into a situation where they may put themselves in some danger.
Nope there is no way i would let my 15yr old daughter wander round after dark, I will be a taxi service for her and her friends as long as needed, hopefully only till she's 17 and can drive herself.
I would much rather be accused of being over protective, than something happening to her, and me regretting not being there. Things have changed a lot, yes there has always been dangers, but i think they are more common now. I'm 34 and not an old fashioned parent, I let her have a few drinks at a party and do some of the things that i did, but i will protect my child as much as it is possible and keep her safe, whether others think that's right or wrong i'm not that bothered so long as she's safe and happy :) ..... but hey, thats just my opinion :D
I feel sorry for my kids - the eldest is now 8 and when I was his age I was all over the place out and about and rarely in! I was off on my Budgie bike touring the fields of Lancashire.Quote:

We live just outside the city centre and our road is a bloody nightmare. It may seem quiet enough but nutters drive up and down at god know's what speed.
it's just not a safe enough environment for the children to play out.
The local park has just been 'done up' and to be fair is now pretty good - equipment wise but of course attracts the chavs that go with it.
Yes, we hung round the park as kids but DIDN'T abuse other adults/kids alike that were also there.
I don't know what the answer is but as far as I'm concerned my children won't be going on their own for some time yet.
