I didn't do it this year, but well done to all who did and finished or not. A special mention for my mate Alan Ireland who finished in 14hr 13min less than 24hrs away from his 70th birthday. Now that's something special (he has won it a few times in the past).
Now that is impressive, well done Alan - hope I'm that fit at 70!
Thanks Daz!
Some more photo's have been added to www.bullocksmithy.com
wow, even a half-decent one of me! :w00t:
btw, are we supposed to be getting results/certificates in the post...?
Yes, you will get a results booklet and your certificate -in a few weeks :D
Does anyone know when we will receive the results booklet please?
They're usually very slow. Just wait and it will happen - eventually.
No worries, thanks BritNick!
Wahey!
Certificate/Results Booklet/Tally Card received today!
Truly, Patience is a virtue! http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/forum/...gel_smiley.gif
Nice one Daz:) hope I'll be getting them for myself next year:)
Anyone having a go this year? I might do.
Anyone having a go at this? should be great fun:) and a pretty decent challenge.(for me anyhow).
Just got the email through, my number is 48.
I'm looking forward to this too, it will be my first time, hopefully I'll last the distance.... :o
Andrea
Did this in 2009 and it is a great event. Really sorry to be unable to do it this year... (family commitments). The atmosphere is friendly and the food stops are varied managing to have on offer exactly what you need. Although hardly an expert or racing snake, if you are going for a time, try not to spend too long at the food / checkpoints. An extra 2-3 minutes times 14 or 16 checkpoints really adds up!
A great day out and great value for money... I even got an extra 5 or 6 miles in at no extra cost;)
There's about 8000' of climb I think... a bit more would be nice but I'm just being fussy...
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Andrea, there are loads from Macc doing it, but I suspect there is a little frisson of competition amongst them;)
I trotted round with Dave W and, whilst his shin splints were troublesome from Peak Forest, getting seriously off track round the back of Three Shires was the body blow that lost us hours!
The Bullock Smithy is nearly here!!!:w00t: next weekend for the fun:thumbup:, should be great, how's everyone feeling, all ready and raring to go? or a wee bit apprehensive like me?
The forecast looks like it could be pretty decent for next weekend too:).
Andy
Very apprehensive.....never done that kind of distance before. Plus the night time navigation over an area I've not been to before!! I should of got some trail shoes too.....basically I'm not well prepared I guess!! :o
Hi fjell guy,
Good luck for the weekend, make sure you don't go off too fast, otherwise you'll be visiting a world of pain later (probably), you still have a chance to get some trail shoes and get them worn in, depends how you are with new shoes?, I'm quite lucky in that I can just get a pair and get straight out and not worry, will you be in road shoes? you could be ok in them, some one with more knowledge of the course can advise.
All the best
Andy
First time at this distance so looking forward to the unknown! I think the starting slow bit is going to be quite mentally challenging - I'll have no problem with slow by the end!
THe previous years reports suggest it is a grand day out - just hoping to "enjoy" it, would love to beat 12hrs but will be happy to finish.
Good luck
I'll probably go with road shoes that I've been wearing for this. Its that or Walsh's which I think will be too thin and poor on the road sections. I'm thinking that if there is a decent road option I'll be taking it, especially in the latter stages! I'll defo be going very, very steady at the start!!!....and hoping to tag onto locals at the end! ;) Just out of curiosity I did 4.48 for Three Peaks, 6.30ish hour for Wasdale and Ennerdale and have 4.05 for marathon...what would people expect to do for this based on those times! I'm hoping to at least go under 14 hours. Originally I'd thought 12 hours but I'm rapidly backtracking on that! :o
The very best of luck gentlemen!
debating how much food water to carry from the start?
I understand that the check points are well provided for and was thinking of only carrying the minimum food and water - any advice?
I guess it depends on how hot it is on the day, I have heard that there is plenty of food and water, but you must take your own cup.
I was planning to take some (not too much) extra water and my usual copious amounts of jelly babies and museli bars...
I did it last year and started with two bottles which I refilled at the water stops, but by the time I got to Cavedale I only needed one bottle. Plenty of water/cordial at the stops, one mistake I made last year was to forget to take a cup and ended up drinking tea out of a plastic cup they retrieved from a bin for me which was not ideal. If you're likely to want a brew on the way make sure you take one.
Re food, food ranges from penguin biscuits, jam butties, hot dogs.....I am taking some gels, jelly beans and chocolate, all of which I've trained with.
It's all getting a little bit close!
Sure is Sarah:thumbup:, I'm actually all packed and ready, most unusual for me :).
Good luck everyone!!!!!!
Andy.
I'm all packed, haven't recced any of the route bar the first leg to Bowstones, haven't run further than 26 miles and so I'm aiming for Peak Forest I reckon! Good luck all!
AndyH & all Bullockers - Good Luck
Peris Horseshoe for me this year, but I'll be thinking of you all
set off steadily, eat/drink regularly and enjoy it!
[P.S. I know who's going to win it this year ;) ]
Best of luck AndyH and everybody else. Sorry I can't join you this year. Food is pretty good and varied. Look out for the jam doughnuts at nr. Chelmorton and hot dogs at Brand Top. You'll need those and more to keep the fire burning. Some personal emergency rations are needed in case of a low point between checkpoints and in case the checkpoint food does not light your candle. One drink bottle should suffice because the checkpoints are not far apart. As already mentioned, don't forget your mug. I'll keep my fingers crossed for good weather. I'll follow your progress on line from beside the barbecue as I recover from the UTMB with my feet up.
Sub 14 hours is a good time to aim for, especially if it's your first time and navigation may be an issue.
Would you say a 2 litre camelbak bladder is overdoing it? Judging by comments re waterbottles and the relatively short distances between checkpoints I'm hoping so.
How strict are definitions of a first aid kit and spare batteries/bulbs enforced? I'm aiming on taking a few plasters, small bandage and two small headtorches.
Again, good luck all.
Thanks Daz and Nick, have a great race at the Horseshoe Daz, will be a great one:)http://www.realbuzz.com/static/js/ti...miley-cool.gif, thanks very much for the map Nick, spot on:thumbup:.
One final good luck folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Andy.
I'm about to cycle up to the start to 'ow do, take a few piccies and see you all off. Amazingly considering the forecast, the sun's still trying to shine. Long may it continue. It's going to be a warm day and balmy night - typical BSH weather. Enjoy.
The first one's finished already - an hour ago in fact - fellow Stockport Harrier James Scott-Buccleuch in 8:46. What a machine. Live results here. Did you guess correctly then Daz? As soon as I saw James on the start line I thought: "Hello, this one's a bit of a dead cert".
Oh Yes - really pleased for James, he'd been recce-ing it and everything!
really talented runner who has come on loads over the last couple of years
also great to hear that his two BS training partners (Neil & Steve) finished in 2nd and 5th, thus scooping the team prize for Stockport
Congratulations to the GVS runners. A top 4 finisher this year, first lady in 15th overall and a host of Pbs...well done!
A well run event, very well organised with supportive marshalls and the fry up at the end was very much appreciated. First time on this run and managed to beat my target of 12hrs. The winning time was amazing and although the conditions were good he must have been flying through the checkpoints - not even chance for a cup of tea and a chat ; ).
Finally, congratulations to all those that made it round.
