Tomsk Tomsk.....where are you ? I've just rescued this thread from the SECOND page. We need to keep it at the top!
I wonder how jebby trains for this race. It all seems to work for him on the day. Does anyone know the secret ?
Mapper, thanks for rescuing the thread. Marvin lets keep this thread at the top all the way to September. I wonder if Jebby is a forumitey. Any body know
Good preperation for the race would be a good meal the night before of Haggis Neaps & Tatties followed by a few pints of heavy. Will certainly give the momentum on the way down!!!!!!!
Good training for the climb up the Ben would be at least 5 or 6 or 7 contiuous climbs upto Paddys Pole at Bleasdale Circle today!
Clod, are you taking the mickey out of my avatar?
The thread doesn't seem to need much maintenance from me - there seem to be plenty of other people who keep pulling it back onto the front page when it slips down.
My problem is not providing momentum, but controlling it downhill.
What got me on the Ben was the amount of continuous steep descent from where you leave the plateau to where you rejoin the tourist path after Red Burn - say a total of just over 2000ft Where can I find a descent like that to train on around the Peak District?
It is with regret and a heavy heart that I must announce my withdrawl from this years race.
One more entry up for grabs then....
Oh what a shame.....
Here's that handy link to the race organiser.....

You know it makes sense.
Timo
To be perfectly honest, I haven't the heart for it.
My training program has been less than perfect, and if I'm brutually honest, I can't see myself putting in the hard work needed before September.
At least I can say I've done it once, and I'll give some other poor bugger the chance.
very honest and hopefully you'll get in next year when you're fighting fit!
Timo
I must get round to giving back my entry - cheers for the link Timo
My reason is nothing to do with training or lack of it......Im going to be a daddy!!!
Congratulation Dux de Lux. Thats great news.
If its a boy will you call him Ben:) :)
Well done Dux de lux. You obviously lifted the small sombrero on your avatar once too often !!!
Congratulations to you and your better half.
You better get lots of training and races in now, before sept. Because after the arrival of the wee one, you will not have the time !!!
Thanks all for the congratulations
Im a little worried....Is parenthood really so bad!!?
Surely Ill still manage to find some time to keep up the training. Many top runners are parents of young children. Nick Sharp, Nick Fish, Jonny Bland and Jon Deegan didnt look to be suffering too much at Loughrigg Siloverhow on Sunday!
Or am I being naive?
Please......somebody tell me itll be ok....!!
Dux, just make sure you get a good of road buggy and you'll be fine !!!!
Come on lads tell him the truth
Bill
No worries Dux,
I only started running seriously post-kids - shouldn't cause you too many problems as long as 'er indoors is okay with it...
Now they're getting a bit older it's even better - taking them camping for the first time at Duddon this year - can't wait:)
MH
Thread gone quiet on the Ben. Any news, any new confirmed entries to add to the list. Let us know.
Keep the Ben thread at the top !!!
This may seem a silly question but I want to make sure of an entry for 2008.
Should I send it off now................or will that just confuse our Scottish bretheren?
You could always get on the reserve list for 2008 or should that be 2009 !!!
The picture at the top right hand corner of this page, just under the 'powered by phluidity'. Is that not the silhouette of Richard Askwith from the back cover of his book Feet in the Clouds, descending the Ben in 2003?
Similar but the arm, leg positions are slightly wrong.
It's not, but I'm sworn to secrecy as to who the runner is!!
It could be you ;)
Could it be Mapper, their are similarities !!!!
Who knows ? There's rarely an issue of The Fellrunner where I'm not featured somewhere. Maybe I'm on the forum as well. Brett is the man to ask..........
On the other hand I think there's too much fat on the right elbow for it to be me.
............and it doesn't look like it's going fast enough.
In your dreams Mapper, the way you are shaping up at the moment I think most fell runners are faster than you going down the hill. Thats what I've heard anyway !!!!!!!
............just wait til I return to fitness from my calf injury, then you'll see!
How' s the reserve list going ? Has anyone else got in yet?
