Aye I'll be there Tussockface, nice little race this.
Many thanks to all involved for today's race. I would like to give a massive thanks to fellow race participant Mark Wharton who very kindly lent me a pair of fell shoes to run in. I'd only decided to race today at the last minute and in a fluster forgot to pack my mudclaws. I was ready to run in my walking shoes until Mark became my knight in shining CVFA vest. I just about managed to squeeze my feet into Mark's 2 sizes small shoes and paid for it on all the decent....big toes took a right hammering. Thanks again Mark, I have a bottle of wine here with your name on it.... Cheers.
It was an incredible result from race winner today!! :)
She was 5th or 6th at the top of the 1st climb and 30 secs approx in front not far from the finish powering home to finish 1st and I think the results will confirm she was 30 secs in front of the next runner at the finish - an awesome performance.

You're right Bill, that doesn't happen too often. Bet there was a gasp as she appeared at the top of the finish field!
Great stuff.
I know a few of the front runners went wrong when going around Stoodley god knows how as its fully bloody marked !!!!!!!!! They didn't go around the the Pike and come back on them self's. A friend was running 2nd I think and ended up 5th after this.
Nice race today legs still tired though,I followed the leaders and missed out the climb up to pike, didn't know what to do at point should of gone down so just went into lemming mode
A bit gutted today as didn't know route and followed leaders to summit before then going back down and following proper race route. Its a long way to come from Notts to make a pigs ear of things. The point on the route where you plunge down before climbing to the monument isn't that obvious and I know the eventual race winner told me he only dropped down because a previous race organiser told him that he needed to do so and all the rest of the field had gone wrong! Perhaps a marshal at that cross roads next year to save other first timers the same embarrassment. Glad I decided to finish unlike some who threw in the towel and a good training run if nothing else!
enjoyed that today - Slug Clan outing, beautiful day, working my way back to fitness chugging along towards the rear - great to see Manhar marshalling
that descent/reascent before Stoodley Pike is clearly marked on the map, so I knew to go down even though I was leading my own mini-group and nobody visible ahead - although I was surprised there was no marshal there
I managed to go the right way because this guy called Andy Gibbons explained the route to me beforehand.
Andy think I was just 1 place behind you at that point & we both knew the right way but it was a no win situation imo - follow the leaders and cut short the race or go the right way and run the 2nd half no longer in a proper race. Then there was the question of would anyone behind follow if we'd gone the right way, we could have ended up running with nobody a few minutes either side which wasn't what we went for.....
In hindsight I do wish I'd gone the right way though!!
Yeah that's the one mate.
Nearly snuck up on you at the end !
I see the results are up and they have results for those who completed the prescribed course and another set of results for those who did the 'short course'! Surely those who did the short course should be DQ as they went wrong and there was no such race as a short race!
Some of us who went wrong turned around and did the proper course. If I had known they were going to create a second short race I wouldn't have turned round but just carried on. Surely the organisers now should compile a third race for those who did the 'long' course!
That was me who listed those results Corniceman and put them on the website. I thought those who did the wrong route might like to know how long they took and see who the people they were racing against were. I called it "short route" rather than "short race" to show that it wasn't the actual race. All the prizes were awarded based on those who did the correct route.Quote:

Thanks Bill and I totally understand. I did have a great day and doing the extra bit gave me that extra training incentive after nearly a year out. I too would always turn round or complete the actual course as not to would leave me deflated too. Good luck to CVFR.
Glad you enjoyed it Corniceman. It's always a good day with the junior races too.
PS: I meant I put the results on the CVFR website, not the FRA website - just in case Brett's reading this!! ;)
For anyone coming to the Coiners race on bank holiday Monday:
The Mytholmroyd Community Centre has not yet recovered from the floods and won't be open.
So we'll still be parking there, but registration will be on the start/finish field (that'll please running parents of juniors who used to have to go to the field to register the juniors then back to the MCC to register themselves).
It also means there won't be any toilets.
And since there won't be any power, we won't be able to print off results on the day - but they'll be on the website asap.
The other change is an enforced route change because of ground nesting birds.
So as you approach Stoodley Pike we won't be doing the descent to the right to London Road. Instead we'll be going straight to the Pike and round it. In fact that's what the leaders mistakenly did last year!

Let me know if you need a hand with anything Bill.:)
Dan
Correction: there will be toilets tomorrow - we've ordered a couple of portaloos for the start/finish/registration field

Coiners race this bank holiday Monday...
Normally we park in the Mytholmroyd Community Centre, but most of the carpark there has been commandeered by the Environment Agency for their plant for the major flood prevention works being done in the town. There's not much room left.
So instead parking will be in a parking area to the south of the A646 between Mytholmroyd and Hebden Bridge. It should be signed off the road.
This parking area is normally sealed off, but we have permission to use it for the race.
Details on the race webpage: http://www.cvfr.co.uk/races/coiners/
Sharing transport where possible would be good though!
I'm going over for this i think. My result in 2011 was 55.19, but this was a pre covid result and i'm tempted to scratch all pre covid PBs and begin again. If i can get under an hour that will do for a post covid race.
Well done Luke, under an hour - target accomplished :-)

Let me know, anyone, if you spot any mistakes before the results go off to the FRA website.
Saw a video on Facebook of MrB hovering just outside the top 20 on the first road...
I was chasing a wharfedale vest all the way round and never caught him. Think It may have been you? I came in dead on the hour.
Happy enough with my run but after a long time out of the game and just plodding about on my own I often forget how hard racing is 🤮
Quite a stressful journey over thanks to a bunch of people who I think call themselves the Ilkley round table. Basically they can't organise an event that doesn't involve multiple road closures, having to pass through that town is like having sand thrown in my eye.
Thanks, Bill, I think the dibbing points cost me about 30s, they were waving around a lot. Ricky, it probably was me looking at the results.
It was a horrible race for me, the word fatigue springs to mind. Running with this post viral thing is like towing a scooter tyre behind you, my legs burn up so fast now and I've got nothing for the runnable climbs, I just stagger along. I've got intermittent chest pains too which is inconvenient.
Planning on going over for this, looks like i had a bit of a disaster last year which is how i remember it. Should be able to smash my time.
Any idea what's going on in Ilkley on monday, Graham?
Thanks to Billj and all the volunteers, a record turnout of 207 apparently. It was a PB for me by a couple of minutes, though comparing with last year's splits shows the waterlogged middle section after the pike was quite slow. I was swapping places with a guy in a yellow vest quite a lot, every time i got past him he'd do me on the next uphill, so i had to plan ahead a bit. I kept my powder dry until the gentle downward slope off the moor began on the run in, then just burned past him over the tricky stuff hoping he wouldn't bother to go with me; he didn't. I didn't think i'd get past the next 3 as the latter stages of the descent are single file, that was until they took a wrong turn in the woods! I stopped immediately and backtracked to the race route, costing me no more than a few seconds.
People are starting to ask me if i'm 'that guy who wrote that thing in the fellrunner', so i'm famous now. 57.50 for me, unlucky for dan gilbert just missing out on the top 10.
