Re: Excalibur Off-Road Maratho
Well, you've now got a lot more time. It's going to announced today that it's been posponed due to adverse weather forecast. Rangers and NEWSAR have said it's not worth the risk. Organisers will be looking at a new date based around other FRA / WFRA fixtures, tree felling timetable etc.
Re: Excalibur Off-Road Maratho
*********CANCELLED******* , due to weather warnings of heavy snow, minus temps and high winds. Check out their facebook site. http://www.facebook.com/ExcaliburMarathon?fref=ts
Re: Excalibur Off-Road Maratho
Ah well, hopefully they'll find a date and all your hard work won't go to waste Nigel. It's rotten having to cancel an event, particularly a fundraiser.
Re: Excalibur Off-Road Maratho
£36 hotel fee down the drain (non-refundable). Have to find something else to do now.

You could keep an eye on this http://run-meirionnydd.co.uk/. Its not too far from the Clwyds. It will get the same snow and the organisers have posted a message saying they're going to let people know tomorow if its cancelled. The organiser might be less worried about it, as i don't think its dependent on consulting with the council /national park etc. - though it is a severe (met office amber) warning. Worth checking out tomorrow anyway?

Re: Excalibur Off-Road Maratho
Thanks for the suggestions. :) The hotel has now allowed me to change the date of my booking; I'll have a trot around the Excalibur course Sat 20th now (or if I'm lucky they'll rearrange it for that date). As for this weekend, I'll recce the Cray to Park Rash section of the Fellsman depending upon the state of the roads.
Re: Excalibur Off-Road Maratho
A bit short notice but if anyone fancies joining me for a reccie I'm planning to head over there this afternoon to plod round the lower circuit - setting off from Moel Fammau lower car park around 1.15pm
cheers

Re: Excalibur Off-Road Maratho
New date for the Excalibur marathon is to be Saturday 18th May - was out on Moel Famau area last night and theres still a lot of snow higher up btw.
Re: Excalibur Off-Road Maratho
Excellent conditions for running this race on Saturday 18th May, even if this runner was not in perfect condition. I would not like this event to become too crowded but, for anyone who may be interested if it is held next year, this is a very runnable attractive course. Compared with the Yorkshire Three Peaks Race for example, it is about 5k longer and has about 200m more climb so it is a worthwhile challenge. There were only 108 runners starting this year and I think the organisers deserve a larger entry.
Re: Excalibur Off-Road Maratho
Thanks for this, Merlin. There were a few more numbers prior to the rearranged date but the priority became to lay on a good race that people would return to. I've had good feedback on the course (scenic and tough - just what I was going for) and I agree - let's not get it too big but I would like more for next year. I'm intending to do a write up for Fellrunner shortly. Glad you enjoyed it.
Re: Excalibur Off-Road Maratho
Well you'll have one more here Nigel all being well
Re: Excalibur Off-Road Maratho
Unlucky losing the first date to the weather, I'm pretty sure you'd have lost a few runners to the Sandstone Trail the weekend before. You can't win with rearranged dates, but I reckon numbers will naturally be up next year.
