This is an absolutely cracking race and I am gutted I will not be able to run it. Still only another 6 weeks to go before I can hit the fells again (Hopefully).
It is a lot harder than the 20 miles suggests and if this rain continues then you wont need a compass for the Cock Hill section you will require a sonar !!
On the mend from a knee op. Seeing the specialist tonight again so see what he has to say. Originally he said 3 months before I could run again (which would be end of Feb). Hopeful that he will stick to that.:D
If this rain keeps up you could always swim round the Trog Denzil!
Took a mate of my round the half route on Sunday and there was a posse of Bingley Harriers recceing the route - the Trog is one of their club champs races. It was very wet and wild up there; bring on the Beast. :)
Like 'headless chickens' no doubt
12 bingley harriers had a look, from crow hill and back,3 carried on for the full.
it was wet, grim and muddy, but it always is up there!i forgot how tough the climb is to shackleton knoll, but boy what a descent, absolutly no grip, just slid down.best of all was the views, brilliant.
does anyone know whether this race is full yet? I know I'm late but was waiting for an injury to clear up, I sent my application in last week.
Think I might go over and recci the last half this weekend?
Actually that's a point. Sent my entry off two+ weeks ago but the cheque hasn't been cashed yet. Web site says "entries list will be published before the event" but not there yet. We'll just have to be patient. I wonder alternatives there are for the 9th...
cheers tag, I'll keep checking the website then.
Last I heard there were 160 in for both races with a limit of 200 that was last week so I'd get a wriggle on:)
Can anyone recommend which part to recci this sat.
Only aiming to spend acouple of hours over there and any info would be appreciated. Cant and dont want to do it all.
see map on CVFR.co.uk: park on rd above cricket club where starting loop crosses and run CP 1-2-12(same as 1) and back or add on 13 and back along Calderdale Way if you have time - that covers all the tricky bits

yes! d'oh! 3-12 being the crux

Thanks for all the interest in the race this year.
I spoke to Thirza who has been busy taking entries, and the races are now FULL. In fact its over subscribed.
The limit is placed due to limited parking available around the area, but please remember that NO entries are taken on the day, even to replace the no-shows.
The CVFR website will have an entry list up with in the next few days, but essentially if your entry got to Thirza by todays post then your name will be there.
I was up on High Brown Knoll and Sheepstones last night and its knee deep quagmire in places! - so heres hoping for a great race day!

Just spent a jolly evening here in Scotland reccying the Trog courtesy of Google Earth and haven't even run out of breathe once. Here's hoping I do better than last year. Arrived in Hebden Bridge at 6pm on Friday evening having driven down from Edinburgh and got a call at 9pm to say it had been cancelled. 500 miles of carbon footprint and I didn't get out of breathe that day either.
If the clag is down I think I shall be wandering around between CPs 2 and 3 and CPs 11 and 12 until the 2009 Trog takes place. Any advice other than holding onto to soembody who knows the way (and so doing will be about 2 hrs ahead of me) ?
just been up there today and its blowing an icy gale right into your face on the return. Just did the middle section as recommended by forumites. Got wet very early on... ooh its going to be a tough one.
The wbesite says;
Full waterproof body cover, map, compass, whistle and emergency food must be carried - no kit, no run!
Will my pertex top do or do I have to take my gore-tex?
Re: Kit check at start. Is the correct map the route map on the CVFR website or the Ordanance Survey Outdoor Leisure 21 map.? Doing the half btw.
The entry lists for both races are now up on the CVFR website
As Eccentric points out pertex isn't waterproof - and waterproof cover is the requirement for the race
As to the map - the map needs to get you around the route. The website version is suitable so long as its printed clearly. If you've got a dodgy printer that smudges or doesn't have any ink, then carry the OS.
see you all saturday!

Well the weather looks pretty good for the weekend so we should avoid a repetition of last year. Checking the entry list was akin to opening exam results just in case my entry had gone astray but all is well. Journeying down over the border on Friday to do a walking reccie to take in the tricky bits before laying waste to the hostelries of Hebden Bridge on Friday night. At least we full Troggers get an extra 10 minutes in bed compared with the Half Troggers !!
Hey, say hello to the marshalls up on High Brown Knoll.
I shall be up there enjoying the sights.....and don't ask me the way!
A tad late to be asking this, I know (and probably too late to get a reply), but I haven't been sent a number, so I assume it's collected at registration tomorrow?

Big thanks to Calder Valley for a Terrific Trog, they even provided free nice weather. Nice to meet another forumite, Daleside, didn't know who you were till Manhar told me on the way home. Massive respect to all Full Troggers, especially Karl Gray, who came in looking like he'd just nipped down the shop for a paper;) Only did the half, but may be persuaded to do the full next year cos i'm easily led. Thanks again, great effort by all and a dammed fine atmosphere:cool:
1st ever post.Finally signed up.
Really enjoyed the "half" but very hard work.Grateful thanks to the kind lady(2nd lady finisher) from Calder who set me and "Binnsy the fell pony" and others,in the right direction on the return descent from HBKnoll.
Q. should I have clipped at all 3 checkpoints? Only did last one. This was my first race where cards needed punching.
Top scran! Well done CVFR ladies!
Welcome to the forum Hugh.
What do you think about my beaut?
Great race, really enjoyed the full trog but got severe cramps at the gates to the field. Will I ever be rid of them??? Argh!!
Not sure I'm up to the longer runs, think I'll stick to half maras and under.
Anyone know a good nutritionist?
Well done to all the marshalls too.
Cracking weather.
