Re: Grin 'n' Bear it 2008
First update from IanDP initial results.
I know there are a few more "gliches". We are haveing a debrief tonight. I will grab the registration forms and attempt to put long to long and short to short.
May be a confusion on the form , or us fell runners are thick :D, but some put down long and did short, and visa versa, which is the explanation for some errors.

Re: Grin 'n' Bear it 2008
Hold the back page. Main headline was about to read "Slippery Stones actually completes long race" and had to be quickly changed to "SS actually wins race". Well done Dazza it must have been tough staying out in front in those conditions with a whipper snapper at your heels.
What a fantastic bunch are those WMRT bods and I hope they raised loadsa cash.
T'was my first stab at it and this bogtastic race will be a regular feature in my calendar. For me It was like doing a tough 1 3/4 hour fell race to Dunford Bridge and then a flat 10k race added on to finish! I was particularly impressed with my forward roll at speed during the descent off Featherbed. After hitting the tarmac hard on me chariot the week before I find that bog is more forgiving.
That Chilli was to die for and here I am mid Mon morning craving for more.
Well done again Plumbum and everyone else involved in putting on a great event.
-
Re: Grin 'n' Bear it 2008
Yes thanks Mr P and everyone from WMRT another good do.
Saw - loads of people taking the wrong line through the section down between the two roads. They must of missed the left turn halfway down.
Overheard - the walker stood talking to Ian DP as he was diverting runners round the bogs - "do you know everyone?" :D
He probably does actually

Re: Grin 'n' Bear it 2008
Hey, I did the 15mile, and it was my first fell race longer than 8 or 9 miles, but I absolutely loved it! Thanks everyone who organised/marshalled/made tea and chilli!!

:mad::mad:
Back page now reads "Ginge Whinge seeks new hobby after realising at Saturdays Grind and Bear it, that his days of giving SS a race kicking are now over"
Hey GW, like SS you also have bike issues :D. do they have cycling proficiency in Barnsley

Re: Grin 'n' Bear it 2008
I keep telling you that I don't race against the likes of you anymore. Talk to me again when you join the old man's league.
Think of all those that decided to forego this classic to turn up for the IH Relay........doh!!

Well done indeed on your 1st post 10 mile outing. You certainly picked a tester, esp. in those conditions. Me thinks that boggy races are going to be your forte.

Re: Grin 'n' Bear it 2008
What I couldn't work out was that everyone in front of me across Outer Edge kept getting further away.... Some talent to pick your feet across there successfully.
I was glad I'd run it last year as the 2nd half of the race I was running on my own. Bizarre that.

"G&B it" is also run to raise money for the MR. there is also a walk along the same lines as a LDWA setting off an hour earlier but the race is pretty good, around 80 runners usually

yes the change will be permanant which means there wuill be a new course record this year.
long route is virtually the same just starts/finishes at Crow edge in stead.
short route is from Langsett Irongate approx following long route but finishes by the Rescue Base.
a few route changes.we'll post the route later.
Worth noting the race route starts at Langsett but registration is at Crow Edge CC and we will bus you to the start.

-
Re: Grin 'n' Bear it 2009
Hope to get along to this and run the long route again, if you're taking runners for this as well as walkers.
-
Re: Grin 'n' Bear it 2009
Does the long route start at Crow Edge and the short route start at Langsett?
Roughly where does the long route go?

You can run the long route but it is a walk so no prizes but feel free to run and enjoy.

Maps should be available soon and I'll post on here.
Roughly the Long follows old route but starts & finishes at Crow Edge CC. Langsett barn wasn't available this year.
The race starts at Langsett Iron gate(first car park from Flouch roundabout) we will bus runners there from Crow edge before start so please be on time.
No route goes to the barn but both go up Cutgate along Howden Edge past Round Hill-Lady Cross-Fiddlers Green-Windle Edge-Windscar Res-Harden res(routes split here)-Hades Clough-Hade Edge-Snittle road(routes come back together) Ox Lee lane to race Finish at SE 175 052 long route continues to Crow Edge.
Hope this gives you an idea. Ox lee lane will be a hard at the end of the race:D

Longer fits in with my training, and I wouldn't be quick enough to be anywhere near the front on the 'run' route. I thought the chilli at the end was the best prize anyway :)

It was hard enough last year only mid-way through the long route with all the mud and that nice little climb up Crow Hill at the end:eek:
Will get my entry in in advance so you know I'll be wanting some food :)

Re: Grin 'n' Bear it 2009
Have been reliably informed that there is no 'runners' category for the long route. So if you plan to run the 23miles you set off with the walkers at 8am.
Crumbs, that's early..... :(
Still not sure, might well stick to the short route so I get an extra hour or two in bed! ;)

Ah, the people I'm giving a lift probably won't be too happy arriving for an 8 o'clock start for me to do the long 'un whilst they hang aroud for the short. Might reconsider and do the 15 then I could do Hope Moors and Tors too

I'm fortunate as I live just over a mile away from the start. Mind you, that probably means I'll have to walk there....and back! Hope it's not raining....:o

Re: Grin 'n' Bear it 2009
I'm finding above posts a bit confusing. Can someone please confirm I can run 23ml route starting at 10am after EOD for 10quid? :) Also does the 23mile route start at Crow Edge Community Centre 180 052 / postcode S36 4TB? Oh, will there be Rescue Ale for sale too? ;)

Yes to the Rescue Ale:D. Start is from Crow Edge CC but the long starts at 8.00am:eek: only the race starts at 10.00 from Langsett. (bus provided) all finish near or at CE CC race finishes before road to avoid running over it.:D
Hope this helps DT

Re: Grin 'n' Bear it 2009
Ian,
a bit of advice please, as i've now left it a bit late to pre-enter I will be entering on the day for the short route so......What time does the bus leave ? I want to allow plenty of time to register and get a good seat on the bus...back seat!!!
Will EOD cause any problems with food, will I still get some or should I bring a potted meat sandwhich to chew on while everyone else tucks into something hot and wonderful... can I let anyone know, would that be helpful.
Cheers
Alfred

Short walk or Race?
The walk is a 8.00am start the race is 10.00am, try and be registered by 9.15 if possible. buses are working a shuttle service and it's only 10 minutes away but I think the hope:rolleyes: is to have the last bus leave c 9.30.
We've got about 140 entries so far (for all courses) and expect about 80 on the day.
Food won't be an issue but Ale might be? Hoping to have around 20 cases ready for donations;)
