hi ratfink - recovered from Fairfield yet? :)
I won't be doing Hanging Stone Leap - if I do anything that weekend it will be either Rugby Rover or Rhayader Mountain Trail
so many good events, so little time... :D

I did the Tranquility Trail from the Madhyamaka Centre near Pocklington last Saturday and was amazed at the number and severity of hills that they found for us. A really enjoyable trail run with great atmosphere all round. Does anyone know whether there is a list of finishers as I would like to compare my efforts with others.
Daz - unfortunately I won't be at Rhayader this year as I have another event on. Been one of the organisers for the last couple of years, so been unable to run it on the day. But just had the routes through to look over and the 30 is good (as always) and slightly different to before, you will need to know which way up a map and compass go ;). Always a challenging route and the Missus is there doing the excellent food at finish. Recommended.
LDWA events are really good, you can get quite a good feed on them, if you get on the right ones
The LDWA events are great but remember as with fell races they are all run by volunteers, and it would be nice to see more runners offering there services as volunteers (when injured say) on some of the LDWA events, which in turn would help build an even better relationship between walkers and runners, just a thought;)
Has anyone done The saltergate Circuit recently? I have NGR's but for a 16.5 mile circuit , the website is down again.
argg argh panic - i am now officially doing the hangingstone leap and have got a number and everything!
now it is just seeming like those longer runs (17ish) i managed to do 2/3 weeks ago are too long ago - only did 12 miles today - and the leap is TWICE that - what have i done!!???
Just chill out and have a beer mate, nothing to worry about. Start off slow, walk the uphills, stop and eat/drink at checkpoints and chat to people along the way. It will be over in no time, you'll be wondering what all the fuss was about.
thanks moley - beer is helping - just marked all the checkpoints on my map, roseberry topping is right near the end :0) ulp
i'm sure i will be made up when i've done it.
i also heard there was cake!
Good luck to those on the RMT this weekend. I know Britnick is entered and arriving with others. Sorry I won't be there, but the Missus will be doing her best in the kitchen ;).
Interesting new section this year, not been used before ........ don't forget your compasses :D.
Hi Mr Mole,
Sorry to disappoint but my brother and I won't be going after all. The weather forecast may have played a part in my decision. I remember what it was like last year and wouldn't want to risk travelling all that way to repeat the experience. Call me nesh if you like. I had all the Tracklogs maps plotted out, sealed in plastic and ready to go. :-(
We will be running a 5k time trial in our local park instead, where the weather will be much nicer :-)
Good luck to everyone else who actually has the fortitude to make it to the start.
Nick.
Maybe the correct decision - though anything has to be preferable to a 5km time trial .
Apparently one walker came in moaning about "sleet and hail" ..... wimp!!
I spent the day in Snowdon horseshoe area, weather not too desperate, usual clagg and crugg, blown over by side winds on Elidir but genreally quite invigorating. After 3 months of injury, being on top of any mountain in a Welsh, August, tempest/monsoon is far better than looking at the bloody tops from a carpark .... wishing to be up there :(
Glad you're on the way back- after a wet slow 14m on saturday it looks like there's things happening here too... catch up with you soon.
Hangingstone Leap was brilliant!
biscuits! ritz crackers! pie at the end (and rice pudding)
shame my knee started to hurt half way through :( - off to look at the ITBS thread now.
The Wycoller Hoof (28th September) is desperately needing entrants. After a very successful start last year, it has been beset by problems this year, with the date having to move to the Sunday and then being refused access to Widdop Moor.
The East Lancs Group are determined that it should go ahead, and all entrants will receive a warm welcome and the usual LDWA hospitality. There are two distances, 17ml or 26ml and all runners and walkers are welcome.
Details are on the LDWA website at http://www.ldwa.org.uk/lgt/web_page.php?c=9&p=250 and you can even enter online via SportIdent.
I ran the inaugural event last year. It was a fantastic blast across the moors with friendly support and top checkpoint food to help you give of your best and enjoy the experience. It was topped off by a meal and chinwag at the end to while away another couple of hours (if you wanted) - all at typically low LDWA cost. Runners were made even more welcome than usual. If this is a spare weekend in your calendar, give it a go. You will not be disappointed.
Some pictures from a walker's perspective are here (hope the link works):

to confirm, this just received...
there you go free adverts!!Quote:
The East Lancs LDWA is running an event called the Wycoller Hoof on Sunday 28 September from Colne Cricket Club in East Lancashire.
There are 17 and 26 mile routes. I am told by one of your members that though it is mentioned on your website it is in an obscure place and needs to figure more prominently so that your members are aware of the event.
More details are available by going on line to www.ldwa.org.uk and going to local groups and scrolling down to East Lancs. Entry can be on line, by post to me or on the day. I should appreciate it if you could "advertise" this event on your web site where people can see it. Anyone wanting to ring me can do so on 0161 763 5748 or my mobile 07595302797. Thanks a lot.
Roy Davies, East Lancs LDWA
Sorry Chris,
I cannot make it this year, much as I had intended to, because I'm committed to doing the Pumlumon Challenge (part of the RunFurther series an' all that).
Thanks Matt. Sorry you won't be able to make it. The following might make it easier for you to bear:
Think of all the worst aspects of the P.C. - the cloud, wind, rain, ankle-twisting tussocks with crevasses between them and hidden raging torrents that can't be seen but can certainly be heard; lung-bursting climbs with everlasting false summits; quad-busting descents; wanting to run but can't because the terrain is just too darned tough; dragging yourself, exhausted and depleted down that hill to the finish, desperate for lashings of tea and a decent slap-up meal and only getting one stingy cuppa with meagre rations fit for a couch potato rather than an ultra runner who's just given his all out there.
Then look at the situation you find yourself in - comfortable, warm, well fed and watered, having the gentle drone of the church proceedings lulling you to sleep, dressed up to the nines, only waking up to move on to the big buffet and booze-up - lots of comfort eating. Mmmmm. Not forgetting to congratulate the bride and groom of course. As long as you escape before the disco starts to impose itself upon the proceedings, you will never wish to be anywhere else. ;)
Ha ha. I had the Wycoller or the Pumlomon on my 'possibles' list. I think that's just decided it.............. :p
Anyone doing this year's Wensleydale Wedge on Sun 16 Nov? Good route with plenty of running (and runners)
You've got me thinking there Derby Tup. It's a great event; I've done it many times. I'll already be up in Kendal for the 'runfurther' party on Saturday. I wonder if I can be sober enough and early enough to get across for that on Sunday? Probably not, methinks. Shame.
Anyone at Autumn in Lakeland next week?
I've entered.
I'll look out for you Graeme. Don't do yourself down though. I bet you're faster than I am ;)
I'd put a fiver on me finishing after you, but I'm on the short course,
there again :D
But that would be cheating, making the bet invalid.... :-)
(My home computer doesn't let me do smileys, for some reason. Perhaps it poses a security risk!?!)
You need to drop the - for a :) to work ;)
Yes :D
I was referring to the icons on the right. They don't work on my home computer but they do on my work computer. Anyway, let's have a go at mx's longhand way :)
Is anyone doing The Saltergate Circuit. I'll be there. Look for a portly slow bloke
