Thanks for that - Considering the muddy conditions (and there's no suitable drop out point if things go wrong) I think I'll save it till next summer and do the Cheshire ring over two days.

Hiya! Can anyone suggest a good cyclo cross bike? Thinking about buying one next year, I want a bike that can do road races, cyclo cross and make a good winter trainer.
Please let me know your thoughts/ reasons, cheers, Steve.
You want this,

Cuz it's unique!
Oh wow! Just spent a good 10 mins staring at that! The Uncle john cross build is more the price i was thinking along the lines of, but i don't want to buy just yet and could talk myself into the On-One just because it looks like it could get to fun places! I have a friend who rides an On-One 29er MTB (single speed!) and swears by it. Thanks for the link.
There's another 10 mins grinning at the On-one. Could be in trouble.
Plenty of bicycles for me this week.
Sat - 40odd up to Skipton, over to Barden, Bolton Abbey, back back back road to Ilkley (bugger of a hill up to Langbar!), Cow and Calf and home.
Sun - 25miles flat east of Leeds (flet completely shagged!)
Tue - 1hour up to Crosshills and back in the dark. Only the 1 near death experience. I've got reflective stuff everywhere, flashing like a Christmas tree and still TDITG (the dickhead in the golf) decided to pull out in front of me. There was a gap of approximately 100m behind me to the next car. Why or why oh why do they do this....?
Thu - 45mins in the cellar. Lovely stuff. Its starting to smell a bit down there now.
Plenty of hills planned for the weekend around Halifax/Hebden Bridge but hopefully I'll be back moving along on two legs rather than 2 wheels soon. I really enjoy cycling but I'm never going to be good enough to compete and its the competition I'm really missing now.
Credit crunch
Cheshire ring was a good choice. Beautiful day Wednesday. Clocked 70ml from Preston Brook anticlockwise and back from Romiley. Only 50 on Wednesday including ride to Romiley, and weather wasn't nearly as bad as forecast.
40 in the Ribble Valley this morning, had intended heading up to Ribblehead but had things to do. Anyone know of a skull cap with ear muffs that fits under a helmet??
Winter gear came out this morning, thank you over shoes!
30 miles of hooligan cycling on the new winter machine, up and down Vale and garth etc, just testing it out you understand!
Def more than 60miles today
bit of a cold but managed it.
A nightmare start though. Wife and lad went to football and just as i was setting out for my ride my phone went ( Your son has forgotten his bloody footie boots:mad:)
So chucked his kit bag over my shoulder and blitzed the 15miles to the ground and gave him the boots and watched them win 6-4:).
He even played in his dads old position ( right back )
So then rode a steady 50miles. Very windy and lots of rain.
God it was hard fighting that wind.
Only one idiot in a car the proceeded to cut me up then wave at me as if to say sooooryeeeee.
3 hours on the lanes around Pendle, up to lower Wharfedale and back via the lanes of the Ribble valley. Watery sunshine in a pale blue sky and a mild feel to the day made for a pleasent ride.

this is what i use and have dug out this week - does a good job, covering the ears.
That looks OK, does it fully cover your lugs?
Ady
I have just got it out of the garage and checked!...to cover or fully cover the ear that is the question! I could say it depends on the size of them, it is stretchy material but YES it covers my ears. If I make it to Shepherds on Saturday i'll bring it with me.
70 miles this morning - what a mild day. Blue skies out toward the coast and around 12 degrees! Chatting today about next years Mallorca training camp and so far there are 31 of us going!
Quick 20 mile spin from Raglan taking in the Blorenge. Trying to get some climbing in my legs as I am off to Spain in 2 weeks and looking to go up L’Angliru. Although it may all be covered in snow which will be a good excuse not to do it...
Ifor
..did look out for you last Saturday..but finished well down the (enormous) field and may have reached the pub spme time after you.... down the road 600 yards to the car and back to the pub but it was heaving...anyway did you sort yourself out with the hat or are you managing without one in the mildish weather?
2 punctures last night FFS
And ive got slime tubes in my winter hack as well:(
So basically
ran 4 miles with dog
was going to ride 25miles but turned into 4 miles
then ran 8 miles with club
then walked home tits off with bike so had fish and chips
40 miles at level 2 in the Ribble Valley, loosened the legs up nicely from yesterday's race, followed by stretching when I got back. Was going to rest today but that was near enough to a rest.
Ahhhh, I like this thread, as I am not running right now :)
Goong to the track tonight, for a 2 hour coached session :)
50odd miles for me on saturday, bloody freezing:(.
not great pace as it was very windy
I did 107 kms on Saturday, that is about 65 miles I think??? It was cold, wet and windy and I had not done any exercise since doing my ankle in at the OMM, apart from a couple of 30 min turbo sessions last week... it was interesting and my legs are still burning!
Rode another 20 miles yesterday, had to turn back before hitting 30, as the wind became so strong I was almost being blown backwards!
Two hours on the track :)
70 miles today with 11 others. A nice steady pace to the cafe and then 20mph average for 35 miles on the way back on my own to make an appointment. Feel quite fresh to say I haven't being doing much on it of late.
An epic today :)
122miles on my bike . Headed up to buxton and then a bit further and then headed back to Ilkeston
2nd 100mile ride over the holiday an 3 x 60mile ones.
Id forgotton what it feels like to do a very very hilly 100mile ride.
Very cold and windy as well.
Not stopped eating since i got back but should have eaten more on the bike.
Le bonk came knocking at 85miles , 2 x mars bars , 2 x cans coke, 1 flapjack, 2 bananas and i was away again.
Off to bed soon
oh ADY , forgot to ask what overshoes do you wear for cold days , both my ones arnt up to it
Good effort Daz. I have some Planet-X neoprene overshoes. They seem OK on most rides. Forget Seal Skin socks on the bike though, they don't do it.
How long did that take you Daz? That's some serious pedalling!
It was 8 hrs at least
Had some odd moments on the way, think I was halloucinating at one point.
But im sure i can do better if i can learn to eat.
I normally ride at 18mph but that route is to hilly for that. You could go quicker with a gang but def not solo.
The worst bit for me is always that bloody hill from bakewell. The A6. Its a nightmare .
As Sherwen says , Bridge to engine room ( More power ) , err there is f,../ all leftAttachment 1651
Dear god daz, you'll sleep like a baby tonight looking like that. Night night.
Not wrong there Al
Too long ago to remember just how I felt after 135 miles on a MTB
I'm seriously impressed Daz, you will be well prepared for "The hell of the north" or whatever else you are planning. Hopefully I can get on a turbo trainer in about a month, then look out!
By way of a target for my recuperation I have entered the Dragon Ride on June 14th, Grand Fondo, so far with my big bad brother and the famous Ray C Shred.
Details at http://www.dragonride.co.uk/
Well done Daz, very proud of you!
-3 when i left the house this morning! Rained a bit in the night too, so a touch icy. Fingers and toes cold. I think i would have cried if i hadn't had over shoes on!
