this is the first time in 12 years i have gone sick from work!
I had a 4 day head cold last week - suddenly came on in a day and made me feel ill as 10men.
Having a shower felt like having 1000s of needles hammered into my skull - just thick nose crap now though.
Sorted by stopping training completely and 10 - 12 paracetamol a day and extra lots of coffee.
Had a week off... been back a week.. only just made it through today. Coughing's been so bad I've finally pulled the muscles in my ribs. Anything more than shallow breathing is painful and even the prescription painkillers don't seem to be doing much yet (only started them a few hours ago).
Manflu came on yesterday pm - drowsy/sleepy/heady/sore throat etc etc...slept plenty since, including most of this morning. Missed headtorch run last night plus will probably have to delay a Rombalds recce for a few days
I'm normally quite proud of my ability to not get ill, but after burning the wick at about 6 different ends at the weekend I've succumbed. Hopefully a day in bed on the lemsip will sort me out - 3 days to recover fully for KT!
Think I'm starting with MANflu. Classic symptoms are all in place: sore throat, tickly cough, elevated temperature, feeling of impending doom re tomorrow's Trog :closed:
When I did the recce of BG legs 1 and 2 two weeks ago I had a little tickly cough and a bit of a sore throat... didn't really think much of it as over the course of the winter I've had a few very minor coldy things that have been and gone with no bother. Not so this time. I was pretty much wiped out for 10 days and probably as ill as I've ever felt. My chest in particular was a real problem; I suspect because I'd spent so long out working hard in very cold air. I managed two short runs Wednesday and Thursday this week and am feeling just about right now, but that's a full two weeks since the symptoms first showed.
I've hit the cough medcine hard and think I might just make it through to tea time now. I'm considering writing to McVities to suggest Covonia-flavoured Jaffa Cakes. They make good sense to me
Wiskey, Lemon and honey in a large dose or two or THREE.
May not clear it but you will sweat and sleep.
Don't worry about the hangover that's a down side of this treatment.
I'd like some of those for my next bout of man-flu. I could drop in the suggestion to their Stockport factory which I pass once a week....there's the obligatory winding down of the window+deep inhale of the sweet aroma when we pass. but I digress. great idea DT, and a lovely avatar :)
I've been on the Covonia every two or three hours and attacked the virus thoroughly with half a bottle of red wine, a pint of Dent Golden Fleece, a bottle of Old Pecilier(sp?) and a pint of Ilkley Mary Jane. I'm the best I've felt all day atm :closed:
I fell rough as houses today. Chesty, congested and I've got a dry tickly cough. My knee hurts too :closed:
Me too mate, without the knee, feel like this................

My Troggy knee is improving but otherwise I feel like death warmed up
Feel slightly improved today, must av been birdflu:rolleyes:
After a mild dose a couple of weeks ago, had a steadily increasing bout this week culminating in all out manplague yesterday and today, struggling to breath whilst running today and coughing up some right monsters. Day of rest tomorrow, been lucky though, not had a cold for over a year, i blame all this changeable weather.
Hopefully the manflu's on the retreat now, just as well, i'm crap at being ill!
Glad to hear you're on the mend Steve. Mine took nearly three weeks to shift properly
Got a real strange bout of MANflu. Achey, tired, headachey symptoms with the rather alarming result that I left half a steak dinner last night and unbelievably some of my beer too. I feel awful!
Managed Full English, extra toast and three cups of coffee but was struggling at one point when I broke out in an amazing cold sweat. Back in bed now :closed:
Yes there is - read the poetry thread post here
Still right badly :closed:
It strikes me that if a pharmaceutical company invested money into proper research as to why blokes are so badly affected by colds and 'flu as compared to women, well, there's millions to be made for man-specific ailment cures.
I've felt crap for days and have spent a fair amount of beer money on stuff that has had no effect whatsoever. A bit of sympathy on the home front would have helped, but no, I might as well have wished to win the lottery. Women can be cruel and heartless sometimes
