Don't often watch football but enjoyed the game today, Man City deserved to win, Newcastle gave everything. Great defence and goalkeeping by Hart. 2 great goals. Hope they win the title:thumbup:

Re: Tonight's football thread
Having waited 44 years I, as I am sure the majority of City fans are, am aware of how our team have over the years been the best at producing the 'double barrel shotgun' and aiming squarely at our foot and shooting. For example I remember celebrating when we thought we had avoided relegation. All we needed was a point against Luton at home - need I carry on? This is City we are talking about, I will therefore air on the side of caution until 4.45pm next week.:)

I seem to remember I was quite dismissive about your boys 5 or 6 weeks ago when it seemed like they'd bottled the title, but I take it all back now. Thought they were hugely impressive today against a good Newcastle team and next week they will become worthy champions.

To be honest who ever wins deserve it.. both have very impressive points titles.. City have been the better team for much of it, but United's bloody mindedness has kept them in it.
But the league doesn't lie.
People point at the 6-1.. but this league has swung back and two and we've both dropped a lot of silly points.. Everton, Blackburn, the two obvious ones for us, but we've also both pulled games back from the dead.. Sunderland for them and Chelsea for us..
Its been a good season. As a manc its great to have this. I spent most of my youth in Sheffield and watch mates squabbling over promotion to the championship..

Kind of like our income really? ;)

Bloody hell - the depth of the old alcoholics barrel is quite astonishing.
At his press conference today he said . "29 years ago i took 11 players, the oldest 27 to defeat Real Madrid in a european final." "That's what QPR have to do."
He was also bleating that QPR players salary will be halved, if they go down.
Tick flaming Tock Baconface.

With 2 games to go all we needed was a win to get promoted. 1-0 2-0 3-0 then 3-1 3-2 3-3. Absolutly gutted. We had to go to Bradford were Tony Morley scored in the dying minutes to gain promotion. Happy days!
I know exactly what you mean William. I keep getting this horrible feeling that QPR will ruin it for us with (ex-Blues) Shaun Wright-Phillips, Nedum Onuoha and Joey Barton in the team.

Sunday's game is controlling my life at the moment Muddy.
Last night I had a clear, vivid dream that I was watching the match and that at half time it was City 0-0 QPR. Half time at "Roker", Sunderland 0-0 Utd.
I woke up in a cold sweat. I don`t know if I can take this anymore.
If I get the second half tonight I`ll let you know, but I`m staying off the cheese before bed tonight that's for sure.

That's the thing about dreams isn't it, they can be so realistic and then they'll throw in a little curve ball like that. I imagine in your dreams tonight you'll be playing at Maine Road or the local park or something.
Ah well, it will soon all be over for you and you'll be celebrating deliriously on Sunday evening or just maybe not.......

Early goal for City and Sunderland go one up against United. It's all over.
Into the second half and United equalize. A glimmer of hope for Sir Alex?
89th minute and Scholes comes off the bench and scores with his first touch!
Surely City won't lose it now.
Mark Hughes hears the news from Sunderland and brings himself on at the Etihad with two of the three extra minutes already played.
"Wasn't it lucky I named myself on the bench" he thinks as the ball falls at his feet in front of an open goal and ...........................
you wake up!

Re: Tonight's football thread
If we score first we'll win the league.
Come on you reds, put the blue shithouses under so much pressure by scoring first.
The blues inside the ground will start getting agitated, and it'll get to the players on the pitch and they'll balls it up
Hopefully Joey Barton will score and Hughes will do a Mourinho at OT for Porto type run, and the whole ground will explode in utter rage at losing the league
:sneaky:

Re: Tonight's football thread
Been up since 6, can't sleep, on my third brew and feel like cracking open a can of Special Brew, I'm a bag of nerves, but I'm optimistic. We've got to do it.
I'm going to do a long slow ten miler up the canal to Tandle Hill and back in a minute - gotta kill some time.

One minute for ten miles!!!!!:w00t:
That would be a quite fast run by your standards, Danbert.:)

Re: Tonight's football thread
QPR 20-1 to win!! I'd like a tenner on that! Double up for a Sunderland win too!!! :w00t:
Coommmmeeeee on Citteeeeeeeee!!!

Re: Tonight's football thread
It's a shame QPR are so rubbish as it probably won't be a tense finish... I can't see City doing anything other than whipping them. At least it makes things interesting at the bottom as Bolton have a real chance of surviving if they can beat Stoke. I think 3rd/4th/5th will stay as it is with both Spurs and Arsenal winning and Newcastle drawing.

No, I wouldn't agree. The Edwards' personal wealth came from that.
I'm not actually nervous - I've resigned myself to City winning it, it's theirs to lose

Re: Tonight's football thread
good luck danbert ! could be a couple of 0-0 draws ?

Of course, what I meant to say is plucky QPR will no doubt cause City problems.

cracking end to the season - you could never have guessed that 2 goals in injury time would seal it !

Good to see the old Man City players there for the presentation (for those of us old enough to remember them playing  ) Tony Book always had a good head of hair

Re: Tonight's football thread
Awesome finish!!! Unbelieveable!! I for one had given up on City!! There might be questions asked (...not by me!!) about the way QPR 'caved in' after they knew they'd stay up!! Their bench were busy celebrating when Citys third went in!! :w00t:
I guess Danburt will be stareing into space some where with a pint of Robinson's Mild in his hand!! :)

Re: Tonight's football thread
Fergie congratulated Manchester City after 20 seconds of his interview.
After saying, and I quote: "They had to do it against 10 men for half an hour and they got 5 minutes of injury time to help them."
Thanks Sir Alex!

It was always on even when MU's full time came up, I'd been sat next to two UTD fans all afternoon in the pub and I asked them wether they thought Fergie would man up and be magnanimous in victory, admitting they were lucky to win the title, no they said he'd rub their noses in it...
well that didn't work out, a brilliant finish,(the best ever?) to the premiorship. and how apt that the final goal was scored in Fergietime.
and Joey....obviously been the John Terry school of football, Doubt he'll play again before next Christmas...
And a final note for Danbert.... you can now move in to the modern era and get rid of that old clock...you know the one that goes Tick Tock :)
Well done City, the best team won in the end, even if you did keep us all on the edge of our seats until the very end.....

Re: Tonight's football thread
Just walked to the shops and Didsbury is rammed with City fans chanting "Who the f*ck are Man United?" I can hear it from my house off School Lane!
Car horns are going off left right and centre - proper party atmosphere!!!

Sounds like you need to move beyond the yuppy suburbs to the peak district. Only sounds of cows, sheep and lambs here going 'Moooo', 'Baaaa' (abit like all those 'fans' really then?)

Re: Tonight's football thread
Congratulations Danbert, Swoop et al - Great teams score when they have to score eg in World cup tournaments, major cup finals becuase they've got the best players who can step up a gear when needed & thats what City did today. Enjoy the night / week.

Re: Tonight's football thread
