Disagree WP. It's gone too far. Either remove the inflammatory participants or shut the whole thing down. The forum might seem "free" to us users but someone has to run it and take responsibility. I'm sure they are wholeheartedly peed of with current behaviour....
I blame the tories 😊
Let’s not have you trying to spark more fiery comments Graham
This is more like it!!
good to see everybody getting on like a house on fire...
Support now for the Theatres/Cinemas.
It seems cheaper to support them when they are closed than when they are open ;)
At the heart of our malaise is the conundrum all too frequently visible in media which is no longer worth reading because of it.
There is a code of beliefs all must seemingly accept..
To list a few - NHS is beyond reproach, chronically underfunded, staffed by angels. All businessmen are corrupt tax dodgers. All Businesses screw pensions and employees. EU is wonderful, brexiters are racist. There is an unlimited sum of money to be spent on public services easily printed that those rotten tories want to give to their donors. The Pm is an idiot who single handledly doubled COVID. But for billionaires all would have lots of money.
You know the stuff.
The problem is of course the world is not so simple.
But to contest any of the beliefs is not treated as a pleasant difference of opinion,
the left seems to think it has moral superiority, so that anyone contesting is not just disagreeing but is utter moral slime. And that is why the arguments get out of hand.
The belief that non believers are morally deficient.
Actually the reason I dislike free movement and Euro is I care about the damage it does.
This forum is mild. The origin of the antisemitism crisis in labour is the willingness of the left and momentum to attack disbelievers in their cause in every inhuman way possible.
I dont think they targetted jews. They targetted everyone who failed to hold the creed
The forum also has a history problem. Witton and I had every reason to believe a new poster was an incarnation of an old one based on provable history. I am sorry we jumped on flem. But we had a reasonable case.
Flem of course had no knowledge of that history.
Until the believers in the cause accept that there are valid disagreements
and that uttering them doesnt make someone racist or slime, it will always get out of hand.
For my part, my identity is known by most. A secret held in plain view.
I am actually a private person who does not relish limelight
which is why some of the things I have done come as a surprise to some - it has even challenged their beliefs about my identity since they had no idea I had done them.
I thought I might put some economic sense into some of the discusssions.
Sadly that makes me slime.
I am happy talking running, which is mostly all I can do now. like many forummites my best running days are gone.
I too have spent many days on hills with forummites and I woudl rather talk about that.
I was jumped on for talking about arrenig fawr.
Actually if anyone had asked about any other race in wales I could have said little about it.
That was different.
One of the organising team used to come for a cuppa at my house
on the way or way back. My training partner marshalled every year.
I knew about that race.
Indeed, I really did help start a now booming biotech lab. I really have owned a portfolio of houses because in our crazy world I am not allowed to put money in a pension! It is part of the unfairness I feel, the bias to public sector. I have done coding of moon images, it is part of my expertise with ESA
I have put telescopes on mountains and sold industrial hi tech on most continents So on. I owned a robotics company. And others besides.
I even wrote an accounts and forecasting package on spreadsheets and sold it for a while. I do not have a one dimensional life.
I have helped organise a lot of races in the back room.
Behind the scenes I help people.
One of the nicest things ever said to me was by the late Daz H who knew some of what I did he said - You are always helping somebody!
Why would I make any of it up?
But it is not practical to argue with a left who think all who disagree are slime.
I would rather talk about running.
And by the way, I do have arthritis in my fingers - and everywhere else - it is why I gave up golf in my twenties. So posting is really hard for me on a mobile phone. And that is why much of the grammar gets lost. It is too hard to correct an autocorrector or even do apostrophes on a mobile phone
Sigh.
Consider the truth of it wheeze. It is why all the arguments on brexit, the economy, corona etc get out of hand. Not just on this forum. On twitter and everywhere else.
I suggested to Brett that ALL political posting was stopped. Those in favour of the creed, not just those against it. Why is that not the answer.
In amongst this I have 100 pleasant conversations about races for those who are willing to do it - who share a passion for such as the old trollers trot. I would rather do that.
Meanwhile in the Chinese autonomous region of Inner Mongolia, something worse.

At least bubonic plague can be treated. That is until the bacteria that causes it eventually becomes resistant to antibiotics.

Interesting that a race down in Wheeze's locality (Waun Fach) is being ran in a couple of weeks...
Admittedly on a time-trial basis, with times and route recorded off an app on your phone. But all runners to do the race over a time-window on the day.
WFRA members only, and an area which usually has low race numbers anyway.
Good to see. However i'll be away that weekend so will miss out...
think they're insisting everyone is done and dusted and off the pub carpark by midday, which would necessitate starting the route by 11am... might prevent a few English from doing it if they have to travel a long way.
I'd certainly be there if i wasn't in the Lakes instead...
18 weeks of shopping at local tesco and now our PM say we should wear masks in shops???
Strange to say that now.
Not really, the scientific evidence has been somewhat vague and changing with interpretation. I think it makes a lot of people feel happier and safer to be doing what they see other people doing in other countries, so he's now simply going along with what (majority) of people want. It is no big deal if the shopkeepers feel safer if customers wear them, then so be it, but personally Im happy to simply not go close to others - keep my distance.
Can't see what the fuss is about, we've got some in the car for if needed, but never worn one yet.
"I won't be."
Hope you can afford the £100 a pop, then 😊
I think there will be potentially £100 fine for non-compliance too so I imagine, whether you agree or not, people will wear masks in shops. There’s a sort of logic in that, with social distancing relaxing and businesses getting going again, wearing masks will be a small (and sensible) price to pay. I think there’s a lot of evidence to show that masks do reduce the spread of the virus to be fair
"I think there’s a lot of evidence to show that masks do reduce the spread of the virus to be fair".
It's that thing, isn't it: that even if the evidence isn't especially equivocal, that even if there's a possibility that they may help it's probably a good thing to wear them if you can't socially distance /are in an enclosed space.
If they don't help, then so what? But if they do.......
I'll be doing a big shop on the 23rd.
After that I'll be wearing a buff if I go in a shop and pretend that there is horizontal sleet blowing down the frozen food aisle.
I just hope they don't make me wear one in the pub!
I'll be wearing a motorcycle helmet if I have to go in a shop.
Just consider.
Today I cannot go in to a shop with a motorcycle helmet on.
Today I don't have to wear any face covering to enter a shop, and shop workers also the same.
On the 24th July if the date is accurate that flips over.
BONKERS!
As far as the evidence of benefit, we've been told for months it's flimsy.
But what about evidence it's harmful. Has anyone looked at that?
What possible risk might there be in the public wearing PPE that they haven't been trained in the use of?
The idea is that the mouth covering restricts the transfer of CV by catching it in the covering. So that means there is likely to be a build up in that face covering.
It would be like a super-accelerated petri dish. With each breath getting a fresh blast of nice, warm, moist breath and COVID.
Not only the COVID, but what about the other potential lurgies that could be caught and grow on that face covering for an hour, including maybe fungi or mildew.
So you don't have it, you contact someone with it and it hits your face covering. Would you be better off with just the one or two inhalations that your system might deal with, or with a one hour incubated dose growing on a mask and being inhaled every few seconds for a prolonged period?
Consider this.

Due to a lack of cases in this area our local surgery has anounced today that it will be opening it's waiting room again for appointments (we waited in the car park and were called in or seen in a mountain rescue tent  in car park). But they have said they think it best if patients please wear masks when attending, ideally bring their own but if not they will provide.
I don't see this as a sudden shift in policy or the GPs are indecissive, or even what is different today the 14th July from yesterday? But just in the balance and given whatever evidence they have to sift through and discussed with their staff - as it is not all about the clients, but also the staff - that in balance it is now probably a better idea to wear in enclosed spaces. As I said, no big deal for me, I don't like the face masks but I'll wear one and get over it.
Doses of Covid cannot grow on masks - they need to be inside cells to grow.
Cloth masks interfere with exhaling CO2? - er - no.
We are constantly inhaling fungi and mildew - our immune systems know how to deal with it.
As has been said, if you dislike masks you will not be impressed with being ventilated.
I wear a mask to protect you .....
