Navigational Skills (NS)
Anyone who competes in FRA races MUST be aware that FRA Races are organised on the premise that competitors have the necessary skills to cope with the navigational problems which may occur, whatever the weather.
In many FRA races, designated with the NS abbreviation, navigational skills are essential and competitors MUST find their own way round the course. Visibility can be poor at any time of the year and following the runner in front is not a substitute for the sound exercise of the competitor’s own skills and judgement.

It was indeed a classic Bogs, which I watched unfold ahead of me, having cunningly stashed myself in a comfortable last place by CP4. (This was thanks in part to a deliberate but rashly inventive route choice to CP3.)
Having been all alone bar the sweeper for some time, I was surprised to come across a number of runners between CPs 5 and 6, all of whom were travelling in different and highly improbable directions. I even saw runners pass each other on the same path, going in opposite ways to get to the same checkpoint!
Reservoir Bogs is always fun, and today's did not disappoint.
