WAS a great club, (in the past tense)
Now only average mid table outfit.

I think potentially this is a good move. He fits their mould, young and ambitious. And Suarez fits his style.. but few others do.. Can't see how Carrol fits, so think he'll go. But he needs to plan for life without Gerrard, as even last season its obvious he's on his last legs, similar to Keane these box to box all action midfielders can't go on like a Scholes, Sheringham or Giggs can.
So he needs to rebuild, but be given time.
I think we all knew Kenny was overated, he did well at Liverpool after taking over a winning side, then won at Blackburn after, what was at the time, major major investment, and also when Cantona was banned else you couldn't see how United wouldn't have won 5 in a row at that time..
Since then its been failure after failure in reality. I think Henry's hand was forced last year, the view is that they never really wanted him, but then you have to ask why back him to buy 100+ million worth of players.. or was that Comolli's role.. who they saw as a long term placement..

Liverpool's last 3 managers are an Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman, no wonder they're a joke!!!!!! :w00t:

To be fair to Woy we're never going to win playing football properly, so we might as well be difficult to break down and he seems to have achieved that.
Saying that it's pretty depressing when the quality of our players is so bad that all you can hope for is a version of Stoke.

Put £5 on Mario to be the top scorer in the tournament. Don't know whether I'm betting with my head or my heart ;)

Italy have given him the prized number 9 shirt - we have given that shirt to Andy Carrol !!!!!!
Maybe the time has come for Super Mario to step up and show the world what he can do.

Re: Tonight's football thread
Don't know too much about Oxlade-Chamberlain (sp?)... is he much cop? Do we have a decent creative midfielder anywhere in England? I can't think of one. It seems to me that's what we really lack. I do rate Carrol and obviously Rooney's pretty great. Defence is ok. I like Parker in the middle. We just need someone with a bit of craft in there too. Not saying that would make us a great side, but it'd be an improvement. Oh for another Gazza!

Future looks good with Wilshire and Cleverley, but neither there. Young, Welbeck, Rooney - keep it tight and leave it to them and I think we can do a little damage.

He's a very promising young player, but I doubt he will shine for England at this tournament.

Re: Tonight's football thread
is it just me or is any one else apathetic towards the Euro 2012. there doesn't appear to be much of a vibe going around. What with the Jubilee and the olympics surely we should be in a fervor of national pride...?

I'd agree, the finishing was appauling, defending and keeping were park standard, Poland should have been 5.0 up at half time. lets hope France play like that so we can scrape a draw, At least Roonies on the bench so no chance of him being sent off....;)

Re: Tonight's football thread
England have started quite well, defending is good and they've been positive up front.
Only mistake I've seen is when Terry got a clean contact on the ball completely missing the striker.... :p

Good result.. hope for a draw tonight and we sit nicely...
I actually fancy us more thought in the France games, if we get out of the group I'm not too fearful of anyone, but we need to win 1 of the next two games and I don't think either will be easy.. 3 draws to send us through.. France to win the next two games and us to draw 2.. and a draw tonight..

Re: Tonight's football thread
just watched the second half highlights. I've seen new life breathed in to the team.....and possibly belief. not sparkleing but a good positive performance well done Roy

Bloody hell all the Sun reading football fans of Warrington are out en masse this morning, they've decked their cars out with St Georges flags and are painting their houses red and white.

14th May 2008, Rangers trashed our fair City in the UEFA Cup Final
Chickens coming home to roost now! I hope the other SPL teams make them drop down to division 3, or they join the English League way down in the Northern Counties leagues (tier 9 of English footy)

I absolutely agree with you. Rangers should be ejected from the SPL and made to join the third tier of the Scottish Football League. However because of the amount of money through gate receipts and TV rights etc that Rangers generate i bet tthe SPL capitulates and allows them back in as a new company. If they do Scottish football will become an even bigger joke than it already is.

There seems to be quite a large movement from supporters groups of other clubs threatening a boycott if their clubs vote for them to stay in. I, quite frankly, shall wet my pants if they do have to start at the bottom. 'orrible lot.

Sadly though every club other than Celtic will let them stay you'd think. They know which side their bread is buttered and losing the revenue that the old firm generates would bring that league crashing to the ground.

Ukraine v France to restart at 6pm. They have to play at least 20 minutes before Duckworth-Lewis can apply.
