When do entries open for next year?:)
January - don't be so impatient.....
Thinking about having a run round this year . . . I’ve done eight but not sure I’ve done one since turning 50
I'm pretty gutted to likely be missing it this year, having done the last two years. But I hope to be back in 2019... possibly lining up a Haworth Hobble/Edale Skyline double, which is just a little too much for me to contemplate this year...
Clackers still has his number. It has ‘7hrs 14 mins. Hard’ written on the back. I think it was only my second fell race. Longer than Ilkley Moor for sure but it changed my life
We held a gate open for Roy B near the Top ‘o the stairs. He didn’t even look at us but simply ran off. Right up there with Wendy Dodds catching me up one year, saying she’d got lost (twice) and had had to pull a 2 inch nail out of her foot, then steaming off at what looked like seven min mile pace in pursuit of another women runner!
Does anybody have a gpx of the course which is accurate for this years event
Thanks
Martyn
Does anyone live over there or run on the area. Preston no has no snow, no ice etc and so I am struggl8ng to think whether I will meet snow? Ice? Mud? Or is it back to just standard Hobble conditions
Penistone Hill was scoured of snow by the wind over the weekend and very runnable. It was lovely and mild this morning. Standard Hobbling conditions will be the order of the day I reckon next weekend. Mind there were still the odd drift or two left behind on Saturday
Its almost all gone now, just a little by walls where it has drifted, cant see there being any on route on saturday.

It will be like it always is - perfect conditions.... as it always is in Haworth Primary School!!

Is that by Mankinholes? Mr Brightside are you the Marshall who dishes out the Whiskey?
p.s. Gutted to miss this today. Fully intend to be back in 2019.
You gave me some stick for declining the whisky. You said the two leaders had some and I was a wuss!
That chewed me up and spat me out :D I think I finished in about 6.26, 11 minutes slower than last year but that's a total miracle considering that my right leg seized up at about six miles and it was a sufferfest from then on. I guess that's what happens when you decide to run 32 miles with no distance training whatsoever! Still, I enjoyed my whisky and donut at Mankinholes and thanks for the shout out Mr.B.
Entries are open.... I'm in!
Missed it last year as wanted to give the Edale Skyline a try, but no clash this year, and as good as good as the Skyline was, this is better in my opinion anyway!
Appears to be full already!
What?! Oh well, that's that decision made then :(
I was under the impression that it didn't usually fill up? Although it has been in the Runfurther Ultra series (only place a 32 mile race is classed as "short"!!) so that might have an effect.
I know the Lakes Mountain 42 has had an similar upturn in entries since it's been in the Series (seems to get around 150 now, and was less than 50 when i first did it in 2016).
All the same, the Hobble is a fantastic race and it's worth sneaking around on here and Facebook as there's bound to be a dropout...
The Hobble has been in the Ultra Runfurther thing (as a ‘short’) since the start and possibly as an ever-present. A Karen Nash or a Britnick would know much better than me. I’ll not be there this year but have unfinished business at one of my favourite days of the year
Unfinished business is a good word for this race. Ran it in 2016 and after a spectacular crash after Heptonstall i staggered home in 6-11. The year after was undoubtedly fitter, but ran with a heavy virus and was 7mins slower. Hoping for a significant pb this year, really i'm hoping to push on towards 5-30.
No doubt i'll look back on that bold prediction with embarrassment in a few weeks time...
Race starts at Mankinholes YHA
A friend told me ‘run as hard as you can for as long as you can. Then hang on’
I’ve done eight and always forget how hard the ground is even in a relatively wet year
I’m sure Graham. I remember the conversation very clearly. Plus your suggestion is madness
Running harder if a rival tries to pass you is okay (isn’t that a kind of definition of ‘racing’)
Entry for the Hobble is def. closed.
@DT and Graham Breeze: how about start of as fast as you think you can maintain for the full race. keep re-assessing this. then if towards the end you can go faster that's a bonus. if you can maintain it all the way but can't go faster you've probably paced it perfectly!
Interesting concept Ben
When do entries open for 2020 ;-)
Compulsory tactic is whatever you do, make sure you can still manage a sprint finish for the crowds from Haworth Church to the finish. Even if you have walked most of the way from Heptonstall….!
