what a pile of moronic dumbed-down commercialised claptrap that was.
Seems that's the way we celebrate things these days. The Jubilee seemed to use the same blueprint: invite a load of has beens, never were beens, never will beens, and get them to warble bad versions of what they do/did. A couple of exceptions, like the woman who sang first, and Elbow sounded good.
Why did we have to see Naomi Campbell and friends strutting their stuff?

The 100m is a strength event. Anabolic steroids increase strength. Tim Montgomery, the ex 100m record holder says the steroids Victor Conte supplied him with packed 28 lbs of muscle onto his body in a month or two. That is what enabled him to run 9.78. Without the steroids he would have struggled to run 10.20. His interview is on YouTube, it is also worth listening to the Balco interview with Victor Conte.
When Carl Lewis came on the scene it was a rarity to see him run under 10 seconds. Most of his races would have been won between 10-10.2. Today we have Bolt and Co running between 9.7 and 10seconds on a regular basis. No amount of training will give a naturally talented sprinter a faster 100m time than a slightly less or equally talented 100m runner on steroids.
PS - It was just a shame that all the athletes didn't throw their piss sample bottles at Liam Gallagher as he tunelessly wailed through Wonderwall :w00t:
He was shite wasn't he? Worse than Macca.
I remember going to a gig at Milton Keynes Bowl when I was a nipper. Terrovision played and as they launched into Tequila the sky turned yellow with bottles of piss flying towards the stage - needless to say they didn't last very long!!
