Ran a recce of the full route today with Ady from Accy. Marvelous :)
The overseas congingency is going to give us a good battle...
Norway vs. Malta
I'm still getting over the two crosses from sunday mate.
Serves me right for trying to keep up with the fast lads
Let us know if you're doing any reccying of the calderdale hike and you need company
According to the website only 8 places left - get your entry in now.
Now just 1 entry left!!
Grab it while you can.:D
It would seem there is a problem with the 3 Peaks entry system. The race should have a limit of 800 but there now appears to be 801 on the entry list
Looks like we'll have to draw straws to see you doesn't go.
Now where did I leave those 800 straws!
808 now...................???? Saying that though <600 will be on the start line anyway.
Entries now increased to 850
Stolly, give me a nudge if you are doing another recce soon. I ran around with a couple of lads from Settle last year, Eddie and Mike.
Will do. I've got the frigging high peak marathon on the near horizon on 6th March and all my running is kind of geared to that. Mind you the distance of PPP is ideal training so I might be able to go round mid Feb (Sunday 15th?). Failing that it will be after the HPM.
Thanks mate, I am more of a AM man myself, although I am doing the Edale this year and have been doing a lot of long runs at the weekends. This will be my 3rd time on the 3 Peaks race and I don't want to experience that cramp again. Which I assume was my own fault for not doing many long runs last year!
Paul I do lot's of long runs and lots of climbing and I still got the Whernside cramp.:( I don't think it matters it's more to do with the long fast flat run befor it. Those last 20 meters up the steep bit leave me quaking as I know as soon as I turn round it'll be hell. I think it's worth stopping for 30 seconds and doing some stretching before setting off down.
Cheers for that Ian, I was also told about the salt tablets, but yeh it always seems to be that last bit up Whernside and then the steps on Inglebugger
Settle-Carlisle railway on Time Team on Channel 4 tomorrow Sunday at 5.30 pm.
Is anyone having trouble with they're 3 peaks entry? I had an e-mail telling me information was missing. When i looked on the si entry site, my qualifying racing seems to be missing and i can't seem to find where to up date it!
Yes mate, I was the same.
I just filled in the races I'd done and resubmitted it.
Next of kin details was missing too, I assume they are expecting a few of us to die this time! Cramp will kill me.
Where did you go to fill in the races you have done? I gave quite a list when i originally filled out my entry. Cheers paul. Stressing out all morning thinking it was just me!
I went to the following link:
https://www.sportident.co.uk/entries/login/logout.php
login with the username/password you got when you first registered and select "update entry".
Hopefully thats sorted then! Cheers Paul.
Its not too bad other than on the very tops. The snow will be fine at the moment but if it starts to melt and ices up it could get worse I suppose. I'll let you know for sure on Monday ;)
On Whernside Wednesday night, slight covering of soft snow on the hard stuff on upper level, now't lower down, few icy patches on the paths but should be fine in daylight, Ingleborough should be the same, Penyghent had the least snow the other week so it should be easy.:)
I've just done Ribblehead, Whernside, Ingleborough then back via Park Fell this morning. The snow made it hard going but looked wonderfully scenic. The path up Whernside was very icy all the way up, and treacherous all the way down. There is quite a bit of snow on the steep bit of the ascent of Ingleborough and there was a group in full crampons and ice axes making a meal of it as we shot up in Roclites! I'd recommend climbing the stile at the bottom of the top wall and going up a grassy bit to the right. I reckon the conditions added about 25% to the overall time.
Enjoy your day tomorrow.
