Thanks for this. Looked it up on-line from this and it's a Northern Cardinal to be precise. I realised when I went for a run through the woods later they're pretty common here. Also saw some sort of very large hawk on that run, just soaring right above may head then gently glided down and landed, but unfortunately just around a bend from where I was.
Purple sandpiper, pied wagtail and rock pipit yesterday in Lyme Regis. Got up this morning to go for a walk down to the Axe estuary and it's lashing down with rain. It's wet enough on Stef's folks' patio for a run of salmon
After a week when spring seemed to be just around the corner, it was back to winter on the Howgills today. A cold wind and a couple of inches of fresh wet snow on wet grass, but the haunting call of the curlews still provided a promise of spring
Some top twitching while driving up the M1 today from London, 6 Red Kites,Kestrels, 2 peregrine falcon, stopped counting after 30 Buzzard and a Muntjac deer grazing on the embankment.
Thats a good count, can't top it for numbers 20ish Buzzards some very close (10ft up in a tree) my first siting of a Green Woodpecker also a spotted woodpecker , also a possible kingfisher although we can't be sure some thing blue streaked in to the water and flew away in a split second. We also saw a muntjac and came across 2 different Badger sets whilst laying a course for a race. (we moved the route to avoid them)
In all the times I've been around Harewood & Eccup, and despite regularly seeing them higher up, today was the closest encouter yet with a Red Kite - hovering & swooping about 30 metres in front of me as I ran along the bridleway between Wyke Gate & New Bridge, which was nice:thumbup:
Two Roe Deer running through the school woods. Caught on video!
Also a couple of randy frogs in fine voice at 1550 feet up Crowden Meadows. Hope they survive saturday nights snow!
A hare on the road and two canada geese overhead as I cycled into Hebden down Sandygate this morning at 0615. A good start to the day!
First a water vole swimming across the Foss Beck, then a kingfisher further upstream - haven't seen either of these in ages. Great stuff!
I'm pretty sure I saw a completely white crow this morning, driving up Black Gill Lane towards Scosthrop Moor. I drive that way all the time so I'll have to look out for it again.
In the same neck of the woods, whilst not wildlife per se, I saw two highland cattle cows each with a beautifully cute, almost newly born, teddy bear cuddly calf in tow on Wednesday
Kestrel hovering at the side of Snake Pass as I descended towards Glossop - it was at eye level on last bend before the gold course. amazing to see the colours so close. shame I was driving.
[QUOTE=Stolly;473036] Teddy bear cuddly.:closed:

re cuddly calves...the farmer took them off the fell yesterday; they're in the fields at the back of our 'ouse now...I'll get some pics sorted in the next few days.
Walking home from the pub tonight we think we saw a hedgehog scuttling across the road. First one I've seen round these parts.
Hedgehog crossing the road this evening and toad slalom at my friend's house again!

Two ducks chasing a heron along the canal on my way to work, them ducks looked p!ssed, wonder if heron's steal duck eggs?
saw a white deer last night running around Hanchurch woods it was majestic. If anyone knows the area it was not far from the water tower at the top car park.
Today I ran along the coastal bank on the edge of The Wash - I nearly tripped over with the amount of birds I saw over the marshes....
From the top :
1 x Marsh Harrier
6 x Little Egrets
4 x Tawny Owl (including 2 getting rather quarrelsome)
2 x Barn Owl (including one hunting over the marsh beside me for about a mile)
Loads of skeins of geese heading back to land
100s of different wading birds and waterfowl - but i'm not that good with them as I am with raptors!
Cracking way to enliven a run!
Loads of woodpeckers today for some reason, 5 in total (1 green and the rest spotted). The wife saw a stoat (or a weasel) on the chevin and watched it running through a drainage tube for a while before it clocked them and vanished.
Sadly I also saw a badly injured pheasant on the side of a track in Harewood, I'm not sure if it had been attacked or hit by a landrover from the estate but it was still alive and looking very poorly. I was only half mile or so from my turnaround point and had made my mind up to put it out of its misery on the way back if it was still suffering but luckily (for me anyway) it had died.
Bloody Hell Stolly - It is a Teddy Bear! Did'nt know they have started to farm Teds.
Had a weekend in the dales and came across 2 small pools heaving with Frogs so much love making going on! All locked together, couples, threesomes, foursomes, it was just a mass orgy of Frogs!
Why should the French have all the fun?
My first summer Warbler, a Chiff Chaff singing........Lovely!
Had a Barn Owl follow me round as I was marking out the navigation course on Saturday
Seen a peregrine for the second time now on my route near Ogden.
First migrant Wheatears of the year on Settle Hills today.
We saw a kingfisher today...always a startling treat!:)
Just come in from my dog walk and seen a pair of Sand Martins. Love the anticipation at this time of year looking towards the skies and willing for the summer migrants to arrive.
Are sand martins not migrants?
