Though this worth a mention. Today I received my t-shirt in the post - despite having had to pull out a week before the race. Very kind and much appreciated, though I may feel a fraud wearing it in public! Thank you Kieran. I will make good use of it if and when my foot gets better.
Just a thought on bananas, is there any real point in eating them in a race, I'd have thought they take too long to digest properly to give you much help during the race although they probably help after you've finished. I can understand it in a really long race ( Mountain marathon etc)but even if someone is running 4hours+ on Tour of Pendle they are still only moving their body across 17 miles.
I doubt bananas are worth carrying - if unripe it would take too long to access the carbs, if ripe they would be all soft/squishy and only worthwhile if someone else has transported them carefully to the place where they hand them to you.Quote:

Like Calvin points out, there is a thread on General Fellrunning issues about this years race. But it's still pretty sparse for what is one of the year highlights. I agree with you Hursty, the forum is (almost) dead. Hardly any banter and very few comments after each race, maybe everybody is on FacebooK/Twitter, I don't do either so can't really say, I prefer the old fashioned forum. It only takes a few minutes to voice your feelings about a race, I'm sure race organisers etc appreciate the feed back....if i've had a cracking day out on the fells, or only a fair to midling day, it's only manners to thank whoever made it possible.Quote:

Most feedback came through Facebook from club members which is a closed group.
Great points you two (Darren & G B). I'm on here and the social networks but this feels more of the place to have real discussions (and sensible ones!!), both pre-race and post-race and I try to use it to the benefit of my club in terms of posting before and after our fell races too.
The Tour was my first one (only been running 11 months or so now), I knew what it was all about after hearing many tales from my Grandad on how tough it is/was so knew what to expect, therefore got myself a lot more pumped up than I do for the shorter stuff. When I saw the weather my first thoughts were with the marshals, not how rough it was going to be for me to run in those conditions. Splendid job by all, including Kieran, of course & I'm looking forward to doing it again next year, hopefully the "good weather" route, haha!
It's a great shame the forum only sees passing traffic nowadays. It's so sad wen you log on and nobody has posted anything all day
Back on topic: well done Calvin. The Tour is a tough outing for anyone in their first year. Good work

Frustrating race for me, I am strong on the climbs so overtake loads of people going up-hill. I had loads of people congratulate me as I passed them as I ran slowly up the last climb only for all of them to overtake me again between there and the finish. That overtaking/re-overtaken happened the whole day!!
I have to say I am gone quite on the forum. The "safety rules thread" and AlwaysInjured "done for me" with it.

I must admit to feeling a bit glad that it finished at checkpoint 6, when I was at checkpoint 6. The weather didn't arrive as bad as was first forecast, but the underfoot conditions were a bit energy sapping. This would have been my first full tour, but was it was only 3/4 i will have to do it again next year.
Well done to the marshals and organisers, and to the 422 people that turned up on what looked like it was going to be a horrific day.

This is the only race I have done for 5 consecutive years. When I heard the route was shortened my first thought was selfishly for my own disappointment, as I had been determined to achieve a sub 4.
Well, I hope I am here again in 2016 for a sub 4 and I hope it's the full route.
I love this race.
The shortened route was still a cracking day out and in the face of the forecast and with thoughts for slower/steady runners and marshalls it was the right call.
So, many thanks to all involved and marshalls even those who said they were ready to go home as I passed, I know you were only joking!

There is a more serious point about the forum generally. In my opinion it should be for all.
If we want to talk about GPS, waterproofs and other equipment fine.
I also like to read about events up to and post race. Often useful information and advise can be gained from the many knowledgeable folk on the forum.
It should also be a forum for discussing general safety rules, competition rules, governance. It's the only vehicle to do this for most.
The subjects are often grouped very nicely and you can quite easily avoid the ones that don't appeal.

Just like with Pendle at the weekend, the runners/marshals safety was at the forefront of the RO's mind when making the decision on the course.
I bet there are some who've done it 20+ times, would be interesting to see a list on who's raced it the most, I love all the little stats like that

It is Twitter and Facebook, Darren, i reckon. Dunnerdale results up on twitter first by the looks of it. It's the way the media giants make it all so accessible with apps and likes and alerts, it's just very easy and very fashionable.
