Navigationally, would I be right in thinking that there are 2 particularly tricky bits:
(1) Coming off Scafell Pike. As I recall, you can either go down the scree or a little further back to a path dropping to the corridor route. Is that right? What would most people recommend?
(2) Coming off Great Gable and picking up the right line to Windy Gap, Green Gable etc. and then down to Honister. Any tips?
Can I also be the first to start the "what do I need to do to get round and avoid the cut off at Honister" debate.
Scree every time !
Off Great Gable head NE and pick cained path down to Windy Gap from Green Gable stay left of path down to bottom of Brantheth as its better grassy running and contour right of Brandeth and left of Grey Knotts (you should pick up fence after Brandeth cross here to get on left of Grey Knotts)
Having only been up Scafell Pike once - in clag - how far to the left of the path should you go to hit the scree? Or will the scree be obvious when I'm up there (if it's not claggy again!)
Run fast, in the right direction?Quote:

reet two things, what times the honister cut off and does the bike ride happen the next day? ta phil
One thing ive found when coming off the pike is to look to your right after you literally meet the summit marshal. Start to head forward but keep slightly left otherwise you get into a clump of rocks and can waste time. Enter the top of the scree and floor it. If you good on rock this is your free running time, before you know it in a matter of seconds your down. If your lucky you wont get a rock or two clap you on the back of your legs.More time can be saved by picking the grassy lines that come after. Get to gable and if your nice , joss will have some mars bar ready, Yon still got gable yet ladAbsolute nectar. If joss is sitting at styhead tarn i can feel the hairs stand on my neck, pure fellracing at its best. This is THE race to take in the sheer magic of lakeland. The record is just awsome. How billy got round in that time just defies belief
Best shoes for this? I am thinking Roclite 315s ....
Does anyone know what the cut off points are for this years race?:D
I'm thinking x-talon 212's.
Just the one as far as I know - Honister at 3.30pm.
Will have to miss out this time. Won't be available after all! Good luck.
Its the bit to Bessy Boot and to Esk Hause I'm bothered about:w00t:
seems to go on forever.........
with no clear idea of where you are headed.......
hoping the weather will be ok for sat
Looks like I've lost my battle to recover from injury in time so I have an entry available if anyone wants to PM me (and meets the entry requirements)...
Andy
I can't get the time off work! Bah! Anyone want my entry?
anyone know what the score is with substitutions....have a club mate who can't do and is willing to swap with me. Is the allowed?
Thats what i like to hear
Is there any water after Sty Head (assuming it's not tipping it down...)? I can't think of any, but would be pleased to be wrong!
There's always Dalehead Tarn?
There are a couple of streams on the way down to Honister
...and they usually have some water at the Honister checkpoint.

Hi Andy.I am interested in having your race no from Borrowdale if its still available.I will pay you for it of course.I am not sure how it all works out though maybe you know.By that i mean do you tell me your race no and i just go up on the day and mention this to the organisers or do i have to have your actual race no for it to work which will mean having to post it or if you are fairly near to Preston i could come and get it.Could you let me know please if you know that is.My mobile no is 07775812459 and house no is 01772 780636.Thanks John Rainford.
did I read / hear mention of a bike ride (or race?) the day after? or am I going loopy?
Hi, im doing this for first time. Whats the water situation like, any where to get it from on way round or is it carry as much as poss??
There's a spring heading up towards Scafell Pike from Esk Hause, then you've got a beck or two on the Corridor route, there's often a crowd at Styhead handing out water and there's drinks available at Honister.
If it's wet then there's water everywhere!
Anymore entry substitutions going? I really fancy a long plod this weekend!
I know there's been one in previous years (not been on it, just heard about it) - Rosthwaite - Whinlatter - Honister - Newlands - Honister - Rosthwaite or something like that. Haven't been able to find anything about one this year though. I'll hopefully be staying over in Keswick on Saturday night and be out on the bike on Sunday. If it turns out there isn't an organised ride, PM me if you fancy doing that route anyway (same goes for anyone else who fancies it).
I still have a spare place......
Is latrigg on the day after? Can't find it so guessing not :-(
Latrigg is run as a midweek race earlier in the year these days - May I think (without checking). Don't think my knees would stand up to it the day after Borrowdale these days, although I did used to enjoy it a few years ago as a hangover cure!
