Where are the England central defenders with character these days, the ones who held the defences together by example and strength of character? Only John Terry has come close to that particular description in the last 6 years. I remember watching Tony Adams against Argentina in the World Cup and thinking he would get humiliated by that talented Argentinian attack but instead he became a "wall" keeping them out time after time, absolutely brilliant! Jack Charlton, Terry Butcher, Sol Campbell, Rio Ferdinand you always had confidence in the defences they were in :cool:
What about Tommy Smith Alf? Don't think he played many times for England but I think it's safe to say Luis Suarez wouldn't have fancied coming up against him:DQuote:
