Are you serious.. fake blood.. Rugby is hardly a clean game.. come on..
Hardly a moral bastion of sport....
An article on the rise of cheating in rugby...

It's amazing how people's perceptions or views change on such fine margins...
Interestingly Fabregas demanded the last penalty... I hope there's a good few posts condemning him.. but the coach agreed so he was fine with it.
I'm not conceding defeat as I actually don't have a strong opinion either way. Even normally good penalty takers miss occasionally, e.g Ashley Cole

Re: Tonight's football thread
Shock.. Rugby pundit prefers Rugby.. read your own words here...
"That does not make it right - ...... - I'm afraid it ruins many a game for me,...
Yes - compared to match fixing and racism diving is a minor issue, but it is still worthy of criticism when it occurs."
When have ever started or commented on a thread on cheating in Rugby.. or is a personal issue.. did Ronaldo upset you when he got Wazza sent off... this thread really does bring out the worst in football fans...
A guardian journalist did a similar article lambasting Ronaldo, thankfully the comments put him right, you'd expect more from a non-tabloid... Ronaldo also took the 5th against England so it was nothing new.
I see why Ronaldo winds people up, he certainly thrives under that hatred, but its idiotic and petty to have a go for being asked to take the 5th penalty..

Some of the best sport I have watched has been football - some of the worst sport I have watched has been .... football.
As to football vs rugby I am happy to watch a good game of either.

Watched last night's game in an Italian restaurant - they gave us a free bottle of wine for cheering in all the right places!
Think I might try a tapas bar on Sunday though...

Portugal were beaten 1-0 by Germany. England didn't lose any of their matches, only penalties.

oh yeah..
I'd call that losing.. tbh the fact that the most completed passes between two english players in the last game was Hart>Carrol shows how bad we are right now.
Classic rigid 442.. we'll be hard to beat, disciplined, show character, passion... but shite.. technically awful, lacking fluidity and beaten by any decent team...

Rangers' wikipedia ;)

Quote:
Rangers Football Club was a football club based in Glasgow, who played in the Scottish Premier League until the end of the 2011-12 season. The club's home was[4] the all-seated 51,082-capacity Ibrox Stadium in south-west Glasgow. Rangers had a fierce rivalry with Celtic;[5] the two Glasgow clubs being collectively known as the Old Firm. |

Re: Tonight's football thread
I've listened to Talk Sport on about this tonight and on other occasions.
I tend to agree that the new Rangers is the same club. The Club has been through a series of owners - but it's the same club. Even if the only people that cme in to buy it were a couple of fans for 10 bob and they became non-league it would still be Rangers.
Scottish Football needs to take sanctions as they have against Rangers, to send out a signal to others. It's about time all clubs were made to operate properly, within their budgets and it seems to me that Scotland cannot support so many professional clubs.

I think they ground share with Stenhousemuir these days so actually have a stand or two now. That picture reminds me of Spotland a few years back before they built the new Wilbutts Lane stand.

Re: Tonight's football thread
I notice that the take-over of dirty Leeds United collapsed today.
Ken Bates arranges a takeover with some rich new owners, all the fans buy season tickets and he shafts everyone 2 days before the start of the season and keeps control of a mid table championship team with large crowds and expensive tickets. :w00t:

That thought had crossed my mind.
Not a total surprise I have to say as it's dragged on for so long. But still a crushing disappointment to not be rid of the cantankerous git.

I'm thoroughly cheesed off with the whole shambles that is Leeds United at the moment. It was bad enough at the end of last season, but then to be thrown a wee bit of light at the end of a very long tunnel is soul destroying. I'm not sure its completely out of the window yet, but it seems pretty close. If Bates writes notes for this Saturdays game, it might be interesting! I have a little bit of hope that we'll go ok with the new players, but in truth I don't really know how they play. I was very sorry to hear Rodgers was up for sale, as he was a potential replacement for Snodgrass!!!

Just heading back from Wem-ber-leee having watched the women's Olympic final. No diving, acting just some good quality football and a cracking atmosphere. Japan unlucky to lose against the US.

Good win that from City. Branislav 'West' Ivanovic deserved to be sent off. Hope City don't have to rely on Pantilimon during the coming season though.

Re: Tonight's football thread
Cracking match that. City always number one for entertainment value  Southampton played very well and you wonder why Ricky Lambert didn't start  I remember in 2005 when Grant Holt and Ricky Lambert were twin strikers at Rochdale and I thought at the time they could play higher in the divisions but I never thought they would both play in the Premier League

First game rusty and with a new player in the team, I'd rather start like that and get better as the season goes on than start on fire and fade away, 3 points , happy. :)

I agree Alf - Once again we have been part of a very entertaining game which could have gone either way. 2-2 at Anfield could prove be a very useful point come May and I would think Liverpool could end up with a decent record at home this season. All in all a below par performance but a great point in the end. :)
