Any comments on todays Draw Danbert.. how lucky were City..
Typical. United drawn in the group of death whilst City get an easy passage again
Should be some great games there involving UK teams. I don't think I will be watching any of the Man United ones though
Seems to me that the Rags will be able to rest players for more important league games when they are playing Europe's equivalent of The Dog and Duck as their group looks even easier than the one they somehow failed to qualify from last year.
As for us, we'll have to go all out in every game to try to qualify from that group of death and it will no doubt impact on our league form.
It is a tough group for the Berties, but that was my initial reaction. Real Madrid, Dortmund and Ajax. I was initially pleased we've got a weak group, but on reflection I'd actually have loved to see United get a group like that. City don't deserve to be in that company. It's still a bit sickening seeing them, Malaga and PSG involved at all.:closed:
Since when has a good result meant a win? In 1999 our group was the group of death, arguably as hard as City's, and we went through without losing which must have been a confidence booster. After that, we only lost one more game until the end of the season and didn't lose any from the start of '99 until the end of the season.
We were pushed hard in all competitions after the group stages, notably by Arsenal, with some memorable results against Arsenal, Inter and Juve. We just got in the habit of winning and won many games we shouldn't have, notably the final itself. Contrast that to the following seasons where we walked the league but were crap in Europe; I attribute that to a lack of domestic competition.
Look at our FA Cup run in 99 - no gimme's there:
Middlesbrough
Liverpool
Fulham
Chelsea
Chelsea replay
Arsenal
Arsenal replay
Newcastle
Tough games can bring the best out of teams, United are usually one of them. It's time for City to crap or get off the toilet.
I was actually quite pleased when we got Real Madrid
would've liked the other 2 to be a bit easier though
still, shows how far City have come that we're moaning about their Champions League draw :w00t:
Ii think you mis-remember 99.. before xmas we were poor.. off the lead and schmeichel was awful, so bad Fergie sent him away for a holiday as he thought he was shot.. he came back refreshed and we kicked on.. we did get a winning run going then and big game after big game, but we were lucky with the league as nobody took the league by the horns we could gain back the ground and win with a very low final points total.. IIRC..
Had it been last season we'd have been way out the back and dead by xmas.. it was a poor league then.
It wasn't a particularly low points total at the time, we got 78 pts but we won the league with 75pts in 96/97 and we were rarely outside the top 2 all season. Arsenal and then Chelsea took the number of points needed to win the title to a new level (Chelsea hold the record with 95) but it wasn't unusual for 80 points to win the title.
Whilst we were fairly poor, by United's standards, before Christmas (despite losing only 3 times) we were unstoppable in the new year and as you say, we were winning big game after big game....
...which confirms my point about big games bringing the best out of some teams.
Good solid performance by Arsenal and "solid" is not an adjective I would normally associate with Arsenal :D I can't see them challenging for the title but their games against Utd/City/Chelsea might determine who actually wins the Premier League this year  Steve Bould's influence is a plus point on their defence and the combination of Podolski and Cazorla looks like it will produce a few goals!
van Persie must be the signing of the season! Top finishing apart from the penalty.
Good 3 points... thought Hernandez looked bright, Van Persie superb.. otherwise poor.. Evra has had a massive loss of form.. tbh I think he needs leaving out for a month or so, totally removing and see how he comes back, he's had a massive few years stress wise and it seems to have caught him.
TBF we would have been lucky claiming a point today, but we kept pushing on and yet again found that piece of look. Saints looked good.
I watched you today Iain and in all honesty you didn't impress me. Last year Shrek carried you so far, this year RVP looks to be doing it early doors. You'll play better teams than Southampton and lose. I thought it was good to see teams going at you and I was impressed with Southampton today, with a little luck they could/should of scored a few more.
PS -There's nothing better than winning the League in the last minute. :w00t:

Yes, but how is the Squirrel?:D
England, plenty of the ball, but no end result.
Not even good to watch.
1-0 to others is a fair assessment.
Rubbish.
Tried to bully them and got 4 yellow cards.
No goal scoring ideas, midfield poor.
Townsend on itv is an old has been termite.
England will not top this group.
GUTTED
Ggggggggggooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllll lllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Captain now sent OFF
Lets face facts now.
We are barely an average team with NO WORLD CLASS PLAYERS,
although they are all massively over paid.
Just a tad better than the other home nations, but only just.
Trev, don't waste your time watching the clowns then. You'd be better off watching McTim. At least he's a winner :closed:
Thought they might try and keep the passion and excitement of the past 3 months but no back to the same old stuff....sigh!
RVP is injured - amazing player, but he's made of glass!
Wow! that was an emotional start to the Liverpool/Man Utd match. Just hope its as good a match as the Liverpool/City one
A big weekend..
Massive win for MU.. not great, not good.. but we won.. winning when playing poorly.. there hasn't been a better team at grinding out results..
Terry retirement is no issue.. great captain, even though he's an absolute shite.. was a great player.. but was.. no loss now and won't be around for 2014.. I thought Rio should have gone to 2012.. but think neither should be involved from now on.. Rio could well develop as a sweeper if we go 3-5-2.. but think Smalling, Jones, Cahill, Jagielka, Lescott + others are our future now. Hart is here for a decade so think we need to build a back 3 and let them get on with it..

says it all really.
quit before he was sacked to save face.
Great win for Leeds last night!! Pity I couldn't be arsed going to the pub for this one as I definately thought we'd lose!! Roll on the never ending take over, and the January window.
I believe GFH are the company doing the negotiations for the purchase on behalf of a 'Dubai group'. Here's hoping its sorted soon!! Then all we have to worry about is who these people are, and have they actually got much cash!!
There's some chatter about other 'investors' hovering too. Saudi and US? Looks like he's going to sell. Its just a matter of being patient now...
