The Hebden

Alan, Carole and your army of grafters. You did us proud yet again. Thank you so much. I don't know an event like it with so much attention to detail. I've done all six of them and it just gets better. I noticed more red and white tape out on the course than ever before, which was well appreciated, though I was a bit confused why, as we crossed the final field we were directed uphill again and through a gateway instead of ahead down the boggy track. Were you saving us from a muddy section? :wink:

splatcher, most people should have been faster last year because we had to take a short cut along the road due to a snowdrift blocking the farm track. Mud really slows pace down. Add gales and you get slowed even further. I was quite pleased to be only 5 minutes slower than last year anyway. It ranks as a better performance. :thumbup:

2009 was the record-breaking year for times thanks to dry conditions and firm, just frozen ground.

It was good to meet you Steampig, and good to chat Steve, Derby Tup, Stef and splatcher (did I forget anyone?). 3 hours flew by after I'd finished before I eventually left.

You're right about the short cut, it was 2 years ago. Nevertheless, the mud and wind will have knocked 5 minutes off this year's times based on the normal route.

Had a great day on the long course. My legs are very sore today (Lytham is a bit flatter than Hebden....). It was the best organised event I've ever been to with by far the most enthusiastic/ friendly bunch of volunteers and marshals.Thanks to all concerned.I'm slowly being drawn to the pastime of running off road!

Nick Yes of course you are forgiven. Frst Hebden for me, although I kept coming to bits and thinking... 'I know this from another race'. It was great to catch up with so many people after a couple of months break - spoke to Capt Krypton and some of team, got a lift with two club members I have not seen for ages, chat with Splatcher and many more. Even managed to fit in a massage.
Great race route and fantastic organisation, especially the waitress delivery!

Always good to chat with you Nick, you were asking me about times.
2008 5h 38m plodding round with friends nattering and stopping and stuffing at every checkpoint.
2009 4h 37m bit more of a serious go at it.
2010 4h 27m best time, suprisingly after coming back from a stress fracture
2011 4h 40m back to scoffing too much, i blame the drip sarnies.
2012 4h 31m set off at the back and gained speed as i went, probably cos i weighed more towards the end.............due to the drip sarnies.
Would be nice to get near 4 hours but the food's to good to miss on this event:thumbup:
